Don,

I'm riding the unknown? Sometimes I do feel like I'm riding the "unknown" but for the trip I'm riding the Big 'o' Gurl ie KTM 990.

Don, I also changed my ride.

I am now riding a '07 DRZ 400s.

Joe

PS I hope Don and Michael are having fun at WFO.

Sounds like it.

Joe, Michael and Chris, You guys probably had better let Skip Mascorro know what you are riding, this list came directly from Moto-Discovery; this is what they currently have on their company files!!!

I let them know Don. I had a great time at WFO with you and Seth. Next month I go to the Lost Coast on my KLR to camp, learn and ride at a Horizons Unlimited rally. A good shakedown and learning experience to prep for Mexico.

I have emailed Skip.

Hey Michael are you sure don't want to head East to that little country called Arkansas and shake it down with us instead?

By the way, gives us low down about the Horizons Unlimited Rally when you return. It looks like a lof of fun.

I think it is really cool that we have two participants from foreign countries on our Copper Canyon Expedition Trek: Paolo Illing of Toronto, Canada and that Russ character from the Republic of Arkansas!

Really great watching. I hope we have as much fun on our

trip as it looks like you had.

I just need to come home with my beard still on my face.

Joe

https://www.bajabound.com/before/permits/lienholders.php One of our group is asking about bringing a financed vehicle into Mexico; he will remain nameless, other than stating he is a very handsome Irishman that looks like a cross between Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson. This link article should tell you everything you need to know about receiving a "Letter of Permission" from your finance company. I have repeatedly brought BMW's and Harley-Davidsons that were financed by BMW Financial and H-D credit into Mexico; If you need a "Letter of Permission", I would recommend starting the procedure right after this Labor Day!

Thank you Don, but I'm not THAT handsome. Some say I am merely as good looking as a Scot named Sean Connery. :)

My wife thought you were as good looking as Barry Fitzgerald:

I think she said: "Hubba hubba!"

OK, so I'm looking at soft luggage for the KLR. The goal is to have them for the Lost Coast rally in 3 weeks, FODS in Nevada in October and riding to AZ in preparation for Copper Canyon in November.

I am leaning heavily toward these:

https://www.wolfmanluggage.com/Expedition/e...addle_bags.html

And possibly adding an explorer tank bag with specific mounting system for my KLR (The small tank bag I am using goes flying when the bike takes a nap). Anybody used the Small expedition tankbag they use? Too tall or inconvenient? I like the waterproof part, but not sure it would stay out of the way when riding/turning the handlebars.

I'm not sure about the mounting system on the cheap ebay side racks I have on my bike, so I have an email in to Wolfman asking about that. Hopefully I don't have to buy replacement ugly and expensive side racks.

I talked with FJRay at WFO and he convinced me to replace the brake lines with stainless ones. Anybody going to carry spare parts like a clutch cable or levers on the trip?

TIA.

I used these Ortlieb bags and didn't need a rack. As far as tank bag my experience was that it was in the way once we got to the canyon. A small tail pack or tank panniers if you really need the extra room but less stuff to carry is the best plan. Bark Busters will negate the need for extra levers a clutch cable is a good idea. One thing I haven't carried but thought was a good idea was a CDI box, one of the few things on a KLR that you can't fix with a couple of wrenches, a leatherman and a rock. SS brake lines are a good idea it won't take long until you realize how crappy the rear brake on the KLR is

Thanks Rick. The saddlebags are mostly for the ride down to AZ from Oregon and the trip back. Once we get on the tour all the luggage will be in the chase vehicle (That is my plan at least). Some of the bag space will be devoted to a few souveniers on the ride home. I have the barkbusters on so I'm pleased to not carry levers. I'll explore the cost of a CDI. I have always pegged the Ortliebs as what I would get, but the new Wolfman bags look more solid and secure, but I haven't seen them in person.

I got a clutch cable thrown into a deal by a guy off ADVrider. It was never used, but was on the bike in case his went out. Not sure if I can use it or bite the bullet and buy another one.

Tank panniers instead of a tankbag to hold tools, tube, etc. is a good idea -- keeps the weight lower too. I'll have to look into that. Thanks.
