I hate to be stupid, but doesn't the spacer come out the end where you've already removed the bearing? Once it's out, you should be able to get to the back of the busted bearing with a long thin punch, shouldn't you?
I'll get a better picture up soon, but it's not simple or possible to go from the other side to pound out the problem I'm having.

I'll go with the grinding wheel option. I'm just frustrated. Being broke and all. I don't have adequate packing materials and I can't afford to ship the wheel anywhere. I also can't afford a new one... It's going to be almost 70 here in the midwest today so I'll spend the time slowly working on this...

The problem bearing race is out. It didn't just pop out when I was finally able to cut through it...

Now for a threaded rod, some fender washers and about a 32 or 33MM socket (or pair) to get it all back together before the sun sets....maybe...

Don't rush now man, you're on the home stretch!

I've made my worst mistakes while hurrying.

Congrats on sticking with it!

I agree completely on the advice to take your time. I've made way more mistakes when tired and working toward a deadline than when I am relaxed, rested and not in a hurry. Think of how long it has taken to get to where you are, and whether waiting another day or two is worth avoiding having to buy another wheel, etc.

I'm having a bit of trouble keeping the new bearings lined up correctly...but I'll keep at it...there's hope that the wheel will be back on this week...and some rides to work yet...

Do as others have said and just tap it in with a socket. Start it in the wheel by lightly tapping on the outer race by going 0-180-90-270-0 etc... degrees and then go to the socket to get it below the wheel surface to seat up to the spacer. No big deal.

Bearings tapped in. Now I need soap-based lithium grease. Stopping by an auto parts store tonight....wheel might be back on yet tonight.....Its supposed to be 74 deg here Saturday...

UPDATE: I was in such a hurry to get the bearings in, I forgot that aluminum sleeve which sits between the bearings...so out comes one bearing (easily this time)...then I put the bearing back...to realize that the sleeve is crooked and I can't move it..yup, bearing back out...hrm...how can I keep the sleeve lined up with the bearings...

heh...duct tape

Bearings in...correctly. Still looking for lithium soap-based grease...haven't gone to too many places yet.
