Since I am new to this group, I am interested in the Nov ride and would like to join the SD riders. I live in Laguna Hills (5 & 405 split), so maybe someone can help me coordinate an approx time and place to meet. Also Solvang sounds nice, I stayed at the Indian casino just 7 miles up the same road called the cashmer casino???? Anyways I will be planning to stay there and have a bit more fun, plus the rooms are reasonable and top star rated (a plus for the wives).

You'll be going right past BigD and myself so we can hook up and ride to meet Tiny Tim and the Ventura Rockets

Count me in weekend rider 1-up staying the night. Leaving on sunday. Thanks for the motel listings, going to book reservations tonight.

Any ideas on the best route to get there?

Bluestreek will be coming down from Marysville. I'm still on-the-fence (leaving from Elk Grove early Sat., if I go).

I haven't mapped all the routes, yet, but 99 to Stockton, Cross Town Fwy to I-5 South, 152 West to 156 to 101 South to 41 to Morro Bay is something around 320 miles, I'm guessing 51/2-6 hrs. (TWN could make it in 4 hrs)

I really don't want to ride I-5 to 41-boring! If I were going to ride 41, I'd take 99 South (maybe collecting others along that route) and arrange to meet the Toecutters in Fresno and ride over with them (Sac-Fresno-Morro Bay=388 miles). Eve has this marvelous method of communicating with cage drivers..... :D

And she's looking forward to seeing you, maybe holding hands some more. "He's just so cuddly" or some such nonsense. ;)

Question, do you guys use any type of communication? My wife and I use the Chatterbox when talking with group members of the other clubs, when riding on group rides. What do you guys use, if any?

I rode yesterday (Sunday 16 Oct) for the first time since the Mammoth/L.A. (via Sherman pass ;) ) return-to-home leg of the Tioga Pass adventure. Cool, crisp, minor rain, much wind. I was able to shake out all of the cobwebs on 1, 150 and 33. I did see three FJR's during the day. All were heading the opposite direction from me. One was Southbound on 1 south of Pt. Magu at 11:30h, one Ojai bound on 33 at approximately 14:30h just below the Pine Mtn. Road summit, and one at the same spot on 101 as before except it was headed up the coast. Long story short...count on me for lunch, likely two up.

24 ‘Ins’ and 3 ‘maybes’. Not too shabby, folks! Let me know if I’ve missed anyone or have included someone that I shouldn’t have. I’ll update this list at the end of the week.

For those of you who wish to ride up with me, here is the route:

Depart 9:00 am sharp from the Jack in the Box just off the 101 on Victoria Ave. in Ventura. We will pick-up 126E to Santa Paula where we’ll exit to 150N through Ojai and on into Carpinteria where we’ll jump on 192W. 192W will lead us to 154W and into Santa Ynez Valley where we’ll pick-up Foxen Canyon Rd. Next turn will be Tepusquet Rd N to Hwy 166 W. The final 25 mile leg will be via 101N to Port San Luis. This route is approximately 180 miles and should take just under 4 hours without loitering and lollygagging. Please let me know who wants to join in on this ride.

Thanks.

Your congenial ride captain for the day,

TWN

Hey Joseph. Sorry I missed you yesterday. I didn't get your V-mail til this AM. The SB Feej @ 11:30 was me as was the SB Feej on the 33. I was going to Willow Springs for the new Buell demo rides and catch the race, but I only made it to Lancaster where the sky's opened and wind blew. Dumb-ass me forgot to pack the rain gear and I got soaked. I figured that I'd take 138 to Lockwood Valley then onto 33, 150 and home. I was amazed at all the debris strewn on the roads. Looked as though someone ran the shoulders on purpose to scatter rocks and sand. I ran over a rock and punctured the rear tire on the Ojai side of 33. Plugged it and limped to the 76 station @ 150 for more air. One of the Co2 cartridges I had was bad. Not fun or safe on 33 with 10 or 15 lbs. of air!

TWN, we both should have stopped and turned around on 33!!! I had my air pump with me but, of course, you did not know that you would need it at the time and you probably could not tell it was an FJR going the other way since I had all the bags off  . Actually, my friend and I turned back maybe two miles after cresting the hill but since we had hit the 76 before heading up we pulled into the high school for a break. If we had returned to the gas station we may have caught up with you. Next time.

Hand signals ;)
But seriously, I have a set of Motorola hand-helds but have never used them bike-to-bike. Tried to synch with a chatterbox on the Sequoia ride but frequencies weren't compatible. Maybe somebody else has a setup that will work? I'll try to bring 'em along just in case.

So, are we meeting up with any NorCalers in Fresno? If'n I were y'all, I'd head straight for Monterey and take the 1 down to SLO, then 101 to Avila, but we welcome the company if you want to head down this way.

Twowheelnut – 2-up
I'll believe that when I see it, and hope to see it.

How many do you use for a rear tire? I'm carryin' 6 right now.
Two six inchers. Suppose to inflate to 35 - 40 lbs.

Mmmm. Me too. We're supposed to do a practice run to the Point Mugu Air Show this weekend. We'll see.

DAMN TWN... and I though I rode fast !!
Yeah, and that was on a flat tire, too! (Should have said Hwy 150, oops!)

I was at the station for a while so, yeah you were in the school lot when I was at the station completing repairs. I'm surprised you didn't catch me up when I was pulled over on 33! I guess I do ride fast!

The interesting thing to note is that 1 car stopped to offer assistance and one guy on a V-Strom did too. Several packs of Harley riders passed without so much as a glance. Figures. Posers.

I had the same experience yesterday when I came upon a downed Harley rider on Hwy49 south of Coulterville. You think he wanted some of my 'metric' help, hell no. :headbonk:

Even when I offered the :asshat: the use of my comprehensive first aid kit and water that always leaves home with me,(gotta love being paired up with an RN) he just looked at me with contempt.

PS I just had to test the new ASShat emoticon.

Here are a couple of shots from the ride. BTW the ZX-10R is one ffffffffaaaaasssssssttttttt ride. :D

Whats missing from this shot is just to the right, a guy has his late model BMW 1150 RT pretty torn apart right where it died in Bear Valley Hwy49. He too had crashed on Friday near Cherry Lake, trying to keep pace with a GS.

Those riding from the north, don't miss the nice ride that Hwy49 has to offer!

This corner is a good opportunity to test your nerves.

Sorry for the mini hijack TWN. ;)

Actually, the emprical evidence seems to suggest that HD riders do see you (even without all the chrome) ........ then they take aim.
