+1  Good on ya Skyway.  Also Thx to Jack and Passport for getting it straight.  :agent:
I was quietly confident that Escort would make it good. They have been very easy to deal with.

How do you direct wire this to the FJR?
Either hook it to the battery (not recommended) or install a terminal strip or fuse block first. Not really direct wire-able. I'd provide a picture of my terminal strip but the bike's away in the shop this month (and most of last month)

Here's a link to Warchild's tech article. On mine, I drilled the tubular channel and screwed the strip to it instead of using wire ties, but it's basically the same.

Have to wait and see what the hardwire looks like. If it has rings on the end and an inline fuse you could connect it directly to the battery.

Personally, I'm planning to put an SAE plug on it and use the Battery Tender wire I already have connnected to my battery.

If you plan on adding more electrical stuff over time you may want to look into a connector block There are lots of options for that discussed in other threads and on fjrtech.com

Update: All funds appear to be in (17 total). I'm off to the bank to get the funds sorted!

Thanks to everyone for the prompt mailing of funds!

Great, I can hardly wait. Looks like is going to be a good payday for Jimbo over at Escort.

Bill

What has anyone heard about the Escort Solo2? Jack called me back on Monday morning and said I could direct order from him on the group buy with a credit card since I had called on Friday.

He said I could get either one. Looking at the wiring instructions on FJRTech, I must say I'm a little intimidated.

How does the solo2 (battery powered) stack up? Any knowledge?

I spoke with Jack today and he mentioned you can get in on the GB price, provided all goes through with the other 17 orders. Talk about down to the wire!

No experience with any radar detectors myself, though it seems when compared the V1 (the god of all RD's) the Passport X50 is right up there with it.

Don't know anything about the S2 but I would be careful about a battery pwered unit because the batteries can go dead when least expected.

Wiring to the battery with a fuse inline is pretty simple once you get the plactic covers off to access the battery.

What part of the world do you live in.? I'd be happy to show you how if you are anywhere near the Catskill region of NY.

I live in Michigan. I gave him my credit card info yesterday and talked with him some. I had planned on wiring it directly to the battery. Jack said I could do that, but upon start up of the motorcycle it might blow the fuse in the direct wire. Wiring to the battery I could handle.

So then he mentioned wiring it into the fuse box. The FJRTech article looks pretty complicated for me (although it seems very detailed).

Was just wondering how well the Solo2 worked. Don't really like the idea of batteries, but don't know how well I'll ever be able to hook the electric up.

How do those "Jastech" (I think) cigarette plugs work? Do they blow a fuse everytime the bike is started? Don't they wire right into the battery?

Did any of you guys order the ground loop isolator if you are running the audio through an Autocom or Starcom? Jack at Escort told me it would probably be necessary or I would pick up noise without it. Being electronically challenged I took his word for it and ordered one but now I'm wondering what everybody does with the extra 250' of cord that comes attached to it.

I too wondered about this, but held off. So far all of my hardwire farkles via the Warchild barrier strip have given me zero noise issues. I hope the Escort goes the same way.

I would also like to hear from anyone who has wired the Passport through the Autocom system.

GB Update.

All funds are now safely in the bank. All checks jived exactly with the amounts given to me by Escort. Phew, thats a relief. You guys are on the ball!

Now I will wait a few days to make sure there are no issues with any funds. If all looks good, I'll send the payment off to Jack.

Almost there folks. B)

Excellent news, thanks Skyway. I am planning a trip to Florida during spring break and I'm hoping to use my new toy for that trip. :D

As far as hardwiring is concerned, I plan on having the power disconnected from the detector when running the starter. I will lock it up in a side or top case whenever I park the bike so I'll have to unplug the power anyway.

If you plan on leaving the power connected to the unit when parked than a good alternative would be to wire it to a circuit that is only on after the bike is running, like the headlight circuit. I doubt you'd need a relay for that as long as you don't plan on sharing the power with other things.

But if the fuse in in the direct wire, wouldn't the direct wire always be hooked up and susceptible to blow a fuse when starting? I had thought the same thing, that it's a simple fix to just unhook the detector from the power cord, but I'm not sure that will avoid the fuse in the line blowing.
