WC, I for one am very pleased with the value of my high-low kit. My results agree with the others. Opening the high-beam has zero effect on the low-beam and just adds a really wimpy (dim) upper beam. Yep, dimmer than stock.

But now that I changed over to 35W HID's I can run non-HID driving lights (maybe steal the 1100X's off my car) or eventually pony up for the PHID's.

I never had my nose section off before. Holy cow are there a lot of 4 mm hex-head screws keeping everything in place! And two of them are clearly made for small Japanese hands. Tht high-low kit sure is all about stuffing 10 lbs of crap into the nose. I got both ignitors in the space above the "shelf" (one ballast below the shelf) but it is snug in there.

I'm not completely re-assembled yet. I not sure about where to stick the controller and relays. I'm thinking of wraping them in some foam and shoving them in the fairing lowers. Do these get too hot to do that?

Toward that end, I have already formulated a plan of attack to deal with the high beam issue. You guys that went with the Hi/Lo kit, don't be off-loading your kits quite yet. Stay tuned. B)

Did this article not help at all? :(

FJRTech: Installing the H4 HID kit in your FJR

I'm thinking of wraping them in some foam and shoving them in the fairing lowers. Do these get too hot to do that?
Personally, I would counsel to avoid placing the ballasts and ignitors anywhere near the frame or the engine bay area. These ballast already get a little warm during normal operation; you want to avoid placing them where they are only going to be exposed to more heat.

As a general rule, the equation to keep in mind is:

(High Temps + Electronic Equipment) x Operating Time = Eventual Badness

No, no. Your article helped tremendously but I'm talking about the two big relays, real honkers, and the big fat "brain box" (controller?). You sort of wave your hands over placement of those. The relays must be no big deal (don't need airflow) but I know nothing about the brain box.

WC, what does the vendor say?
I dunno, I haven't had any contact with him since buying my third HID kit from him.
i've NOT HEARD from the vendor for a week now, after he sent me the 'upgrade' offer after getting my money...

i just want my money back from the person...

tho i'm sure paypal will be no help...

dana

I think he closes down for the weekend, which probably starts somewhere on our Friday morning and his Monday is our Sunday afternoon?

Anyway, did you send him a reply to that second offer email and say GIMME MY MONEY BACK? Never heard of anyone having to do that through PAYPAL. Have you contacted them or looked through there FAQS to see if there is a formal process to recend a deal?

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

As some of you may have seen, I had my kit for sale in the classifieds here. I had placed the ad since I expected the lights to be at my door that day. As it turned out, FED-EX delivered it to the wrong address and now it is lost. I filed a claim and Andy will be reimbursed in about 2 weeks for the lost shipment. I emailed him regarding the lost shipment and he replied quickly with an email back to me. I have ask that he refund my Paypal account when he gets conformation of the lost shipment from FED-EX. I also gave him a quick rundown regarding the concerns of the high beam operation of his product when installed in the FJR and suggested if he had any ideas to let us know. I assume that Warchild has been in contact with him on this too. I was so looking foreward to some bright assed lights for this winter.

John Calhoun

John, they ARE bright assed lights. Just not on high beam. Sorry to hear about the SNAFU. Let us know when you get PP'd back and any information you might get from the vendor.

In the mean time, I'm still trying to get more high beam and less dead zone out of my Bixenon setup. Don't hold your breath on me having any success. But I have modified one of them and hope to do a road test later in the week. Man, is it pouring down rain here. Thunder storms. Hopefully finish raining by tomorrow (without snow and ice) then a day or so to dry out. Then comes that winter wind. Only supposed to be in the 40's so far, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Wish me luck. I have been able to let more light out of the unit. Whether I can successfully direct/restrict it is the big question. I can't keep the two parts of the capsule together, so eventully I'm going to use some high temp RTV to "glue" it together, perhaps with the light source set back a bit ( more in the high beam area of the lens). Just wiggling the light source around in the capsule has a tremendous effect on the beam cast. Mostly, I want to keep the standard beam cast, just let out more high beam and get rid of the dark line at the horizon. Workin on it.

Yes, I have. In fact, we've had several frank exchanges of email recently. :D

The bottom line is that I told him the Hi/Lo kits are not doing the job in the high-beam position, though the Low-beam is beyond outstanding. I am convinced he now understands where we are coming from on this issue. He is sending me an extra Hi/Lo beam capsule holder to experiment with, as I anticipate destructive testing is going to occur here when I get a fourth kit delivered here shortly.

i never got a refund from this guy andy...

i filed a complaint with paypal, then andy contacted me...

he promised and promised, but nothing...

he said to cancel the complaint so he could get into his account and send the refund...

NOTHING!!!

now paypal says only one complaint per transaction... no refiling...

i'm just sick...

beware of this andy felllow...

our email exchange follows, reads from the bottom, up...

he promised and promised, but nothing...

WPBFJR,

If I understand your post correctly, you canceled your claim with paypal so Andy could refund your paypal account and you have not received it. And now you can not file a second claim on that transaction. Is that correct?

Thanks,

John Calhoun

WPBFJR,If I understand your post correctly, you canceled your claim with paypal so Andy could refund your paypal account and you have not received it. And now you can not file a second claim on that transaction. Is that correct?
yes, 100% correct...

paypal said i should of contacted them first, or searced the terms of service, where/when i would have been advised of their policy...

one claim per transaction...

from the paypal info i did receive, had the seller not responded, or i had done nothing but wait for his refund, paypal would of automaticaly decied in MY favor and returned the money...

this is based on my NOT having the things i bought....

the lights showed up fedex yesterday!!!

seems the only way back at him now is to contact us customs about his little 'warranty replacement' ploy to avoid duty taxes...

Whoa dude! Don't shoot the golden goose here. That kind of reaction seems VERY extreme.

We all know stories of PayPal suckage....and probably on Andy's end even more so. Reading through it seems like language could be part of it and, again, PayPal sucks.

Please don't **** it up for everybody else.

I have to agree here. I'm sure you're frustrated with this situation, but if you can be objective and consider that nearly all of the people who entered into this deal with Andy had a pretty good experience I think you'll see that this is an isolated incident. I know, I know, you dealt with him one time and got screwed one time...I understand that your record w/ him is 0 for 1. But for the good of the community, please try to consider his overall track record before calling the Feds.

The rest of the FJR community may someday want to do business with him again...and you can be sure that won't happen if you take drastic measures.

Perhaps you could Ebay your light kit and maybe even make a couple of bucks off of it for your troubles. Then you never do bizness with Andy again and your problem is solved.

+2

Don't do this, wpbfjr, it will ruin it for everyone. :(

This would be extremely bad, especially since we are right on the verge of resolving the Hi-beam issue.

In fact, I have just successfully converted one of my "Low-Beam Only" lamps to "High-Beam Only". Confirmation test will happen tonight.

Then over the weekend, I am doing the same for the Hi/Lo capsule.

Nobody wants to go back to paying $500.00 - $600.00 for these kits.

I think he has a right to be upset. He asked Andy to CANCEL the order and Andy sent the lights anyway. The kit does not meet expectations and he was right in asking to cancel and get a refund BEFORE it was shipped.

I have mixed emotions regarding the "warranty replacement" issue.

Perhaps someone here would like to buy the lights from him so he is not out $295 for a light kit that does not function properly in his bike. I doubt if he knew of the problems with the high beam that he would have ordered the kit. If no one here wants the kit, Andy should take the kit back and refund the money.

so, what you are saying is that I am statistically insignifignt(sp)...

that your need to save $$$ in the future far out weighs my need to not lose $$$ money today...

fine, help a brother out and buy these from me... clicky

buy them for a friend for Christmas, Hanukah, ramadon, kwanza……

they're only 300 bucks, you can afford that and help a fjr brother out...

help me out for the teams sake...

I need to pay my dr and foot rehab so I can walk norm and maybe ride again…

thanks,

dana

As an outsider (someone not proposing to go for the Self-Buy) is it not possible to have the Self-Buy deal with Andy conditional on wpbfjr's cancellation being sorted first?

We gotta look out for this bro

If I wanted a set of the high/low or had a friend who did--I would buy them.

What I did do is add a note when I ordered my set to implore Andy to do right by you. I'm sure he'll make it right. PayPal sucks and I think is the bigger issue here. Hopefully, somebody will step up, but think about your kharma friend.
