Fun thread. --sparked quite the conversation in our household with the verdict being that we're lacking a true hot dog mecca establishment here in Reno USA
HOWEVER, if you were to say "Hot Dog", what would certainly come to mind in most folks mind here is:

Cal Neva, 3rd floor Sports Book ...a place with lots of "character" (translation = dirty, de-generates, despicable).

At one time a good quality hot dog and a Heineken for $0.99 ...then $1.50 and slowly has gone up with the times -I believe it is now $3.00 ...still a great deal for a good dog with all the fixin's and a Heineken to wash it down with.

Now, when it comes time to talk Burgers .....we've go a local place that we'll beat em all. (just ask GZ, I turned him on to the place ....and the next morning he was back there for another one for BREAKFAST!)

Fun thread Hal ....look forward to watching the "Tube Steak 50+" ride.

OK there is no way i'm going on any ride called "TubeSteak" :D

hey, i see an idea here for a tv show :D
perfect for the travel channel or the food channel
Or the "National Coronary By-Pass Show"

I'm getting transient chest pains just thinking about this ....
Medical studies have proved that condiments negate the cholestrol and trans fats in processed meats.

The more mustard and saurkraut, the healthier the dawg.

hehe

OK there is no way i'm going on any ride called "TubeSteak" :D

How about the Hot Dog Ride for Weenies....um nope ....that don't sound right................the Weenie ride for Hot Dogs................nope that won't work. Anyone else for name that ride. :D

While I have visited the Salty Dog Saloon in Ocean City, MD, the Salty Dog Seafood Grille and Bar in Boston, MA, and the Salty Dog Cafe in Hilton Head, my favorite is the Old Salty Dog in Sarasota, FL (1601 Ken Thompson Parkway, to be exact). It won my heart and soul the first time I tried the 1/4 lb, beer battered, deep fried "Salty Dog".

The landmark sits right on the water and you can sit on the deck and take in the sights. You'll see an occasional school (or gaggle, herd, group, whatever) of dolphin swimming/jumping nearby. You'll see some pelicans, but, you won't see too many seagulls as Harry (the resident great blue heron) keeps most of them away. Please don't feed Harry, though.

After this "Run with the Big Dawgs" you won't be able to get off the porch!!

huh. 4 pages about hot dogs. interesting. i really thought adults didn't eat them.
they don't...
  good one barb!

i haven't had a hot dog since they were cut up and put in my macaroni n cheese as a kid! now brats on the other hand, i don't eat them very often either, but they are good.
Michelle, I'm using the term "Hot Dog" rather loosely - Brats are accepted as well !!! So? Texas isn't represented yet - what's your favorite place for Brats?
Hey Hal! Seriously, I have no idea. I don't buy them from restaurants. On a pretty rare occasion, I'll pick up a package of Johnsonville Cheddar Brats from Target but I really can't even remember the last time I did that! I know I've bought them at least once since moving to Texas. But yeah, we have too many good steaks, BBQ and tex mex here to waste stomach space on hot dogs! Sorry I can't help ya! Maybe a real texan can tell ya somewhere to try.

Del, any particular location?
Hal, small family owned been around the Nor Cal bayarea alot longer than me. Been going there forever. I think there are 7 different locations up here but I go to the one in Pleasant Hill, Ca. Here's their link...Casper's They actually sell their dogs packaged up in the Costco's here also. Kind of pricey but good. I would like to stop at Pink's if I'm ever down south. Great thread...PM. <>< ;)

Hal, Trust me on this one! You and I have met in person, so you know firsthand from my big belly that I'm a healthy eater.

Ted's Hot Dogs in Tempe, Arizona is the BEST! From the minute they open the doors in the AM until they close in the PM there is a line going out the door! In addition to the one Arizona location, they have eight stores in the Buffalo, NY region.

When I rode to Maine last year, I routed myself through Buffalo just to have a Ted's Hot Dog enroute to Acadia National Park. Don't trust the judgement of these skinny guys. Trust a guy that looks like me - Chuy Medina, or Barry - Barabus!
A second vote for Ted's!

All I need to complete this is:

Alaska

Delaware

Minnesota

Mississippi

New Hampshire

New Mexico

I know there's a Costco in Fairbanks - but isn't there some place in Hyder that serves dogs?

BUMP

Updated maps in post #1

Only four states left to claim. Please take a look at those. If I have to use Costco or Home Depot, I will.

Alaska - Hyder? Fairbanks adds another 2500 miles or so - do any of the restaurants in Hyder serve hot dogs?

Dogs grilled in your back yard are certainly excellent as well !!

Well, if that's a hint, then I do grill an excellent cheddar-wurst at home and you are welcome to try a couple when you are in the neighborhood. I serve them with a nice wasabi sauce that is guaranteed to clear your sinuses.

OK, so I guess you don't want to play golf.

I've always been partial to A&W for a hot dog, only because I also like root beer. It's not the best Hot Dog I ever had, and it's not the best root beer I ever had, but it is in New Hampshire (barely).

A&W Restaurant

SALEM , NH

kaitsdad: Do you have interest in adding locations South of the Border? Will bratwurst, weisswurst und knockwurst count?

On Friday, February 15 AZ FJR Forum and AZ Beemers will be riding to Bahia Kino, Sonora, Mexico for a four day vacation.

When we go with the Nazi-bike crowd we usually stop at the Swiss Haus in Hermosillo; Capitol of Mexican State of Sonora.

Swiss Haus is owned by an immigrant family from Zurich and they serve up great dogs of the wurst variety on a Kaiser roll!

Swiss Haus is on Avenida Doktor Paliza #62, next to Plaza Colonio Centenario. Mexican Phone Number: 011-662-217-5040.

I'm the Forum Representative on Gypsy's Directory Assistance List for Sonora y Baja California Norte; call if you need help!

The place that I HAVE to eat at when I visit my Mississippi hometown of Hattiesburg...Ward's Hamburgers. They make my all time favorite, chilicheese dogs. I also like the Varsity in Atlanta.
