Fathers Day Gift to myself was a set of OEM 2005 Yamaha FZ1 Mirrors. I'm 6'2 and was getting tired of dropping an arm to get a good view of what was behind me. After reading what others had done on the forum (Thank You), I went ahead and ordered a pair of the '05 FZ1 Mirrors from RonAyers.com. I probably spent over an hour searching for the best price, but RonAyers was about the best I could find (roughly $140 shipped). I didn't want to spend that much but on the bright side, I now have a full view of what is behind me, without having to let go of the left/right side.

Perfect fit other than a small gap between the fram and rubber boot. Gap is not visible from the front. Only way you can tell is from viewing the mirror base from the back. Again, I'm pretty OCD and they appear factory.

Anyway, I know this is been done before, but wanted to share in case someone out there is considering. For myself, it was well worth it.

Tip in case you decide to swith them out. When you take off the oem mirrors, there is a rubber "plate" (Mfg. 3P6-26299-00-00)that fits against the frame. Flip it in the opposite direction so the rubber plate won't stick out the bottom of the FZ1 Mirrors.

Thanks. That is a Axio tail bag. I'm usually solo on the bike, but it's easy to take off with the velcro straps that run underneath the seat. I like the bag because it has a hard top and it looks almost factory.

I juts got back from an 11 day bike trip. Montreal down to Front Royal Virginia to do the Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge Parkway, Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway and return. Had a great time. But that trip confirmed to me that I need / want better rear view vision. My first day back, I ordered a set of 05 FZ1 mirrors. I am looking forward to installing them in 10 days or so!

I was going to ask if it was you I ran in to at Blackwater Falls Lodge last weekend, but I see you ride a 2009 like me. I met some Canadians, one riding a blue and silver FJR last weekend. Was back on skyline yesterday where I saw bears... yes bears! I thought they were cows until I rode past them and saw the baby - baby bears and baby cows look just a little different.

OP, nice mirrors, I think its the best thing I did to my bike since buying it.

I too put these mirrors on my bike. I took the rubber gromet or rubber washer and put them inside the rubber sleeve on the mirrors then I mounted them on the bike. No gap and they look awesome. Just pull the rubber sleeve over the rubber deal that came off the OEM mirrors then install.

Received an extra bonus from installing the FZ1 mirrors. No more vibration from the right hand mirror! I posted last year that the right mirror was replaced under warranty due to vibration. Didn't help, but I learned to accept it. Now with the FZ mirror, objects in mirror are clear. Go figure.

I am looking at changing mirrors on my '06, and I am wondering if the FZ1 mirrors are also lighter weight than the stock Gen 2 mirrors are? Obviously the main reason for making the change is better field of vision, but I believe I read that the FZ1 mirrors are quite a bit less weight, and considering I have auxiliary lights mounted on the mirror mounts I figure any weight savings on that attachment point would be good.

So, are they lighter as well?

Yes, definitely lighter, but not sure what the weight difference is. I do know you'll notice a difference when you hold the stock in one hand and the FZ1 Mirror in the other.

Well, that would be $106 plus shipping. I decided to order them right away, and placed an order with RonAyers.com., which cost me a few bucks more, but at least the money is going to a guy that has given a lot to our sport, and LD riding specifically. I am OK with that.

Thing is, it always changes.

I got mine for considerably less back when Gary McCoy used to still be offering (the forum) discounted parts. But alas, those days are (long) gone. Best technique now, unless you know someone offering a special discount, it to just google the part number and see what comes up.

And FWIW, I agree with TriggerT whole-heartedly. It's worth spending and extra buck or two for known good service, to ensure it will continue. I only wish there was a local brick and mortar shop nearby that I felt compelled to support.
