dc,

Help me figure out a way to get that last head bolt outta my '04 motor and the head is yours! (albeit with bent valves in it!)

Too bad Don...time to open another FJR chapter with either an engine swap or 'nuter bike.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Sorry for the bad ending, Don.

I had my hopes up that the gasket would fix it.

(Don, please don't kill me for this!)

I know some of you people on this forum weren't members yet, but at one time we all ponied up some funds for Warchild to buy "Deerslayer".

If someone were to set up a Paypal account, I'd be honored to make the first donation to help Don with a new motor, head, or new FJR.

I can't think of anyone more deserving of a random act of kindness than Mr. Carver.

Who's in?

ME!!!!!

Just home now, one bike dead, (KrZy8) another...

delivered to her new owner, Ian,

(1984 Cagiva 500 mx, dead cousin Bob's bike, my bestest bud ever!)

It felt good giving a bike, pink and all, to a bud of the 'gang' back in the day.

Ian has good heart, I hope he does good with the bike.

The exchange, made me smile.

KrZy8?

Yeah, kinda sad, have to admit.

I feel like I've lost my very best friend.

I know it sounds ****** up -

emotions for metal, plastic, rubber and what not...

but it's true.

If you figure out the hours, right at 150k,

that's many happy nano-seconds of hitting an apex just right,

or droning for hours across the heartland to see your Nerdie friends.

So many life-changing road trips...

..and daily commutes.

I do have some options

(quickly climbing through the Doctor Phil emotional grief ******** pattern)

..and while I am honored to think some really wonderful humans would be / are willing to put up a dcarver relief fund...

Please, no.

I am not wealthy by any means,

nor am I poor.

But Ms dCarver and I have all that's really needed,

I have other bikes to ride,

so the 'hair in the wind' is satisfied

Sure hope you don't mind the beautimous sounds of a 1991 air-cooled Harley Davidson invading your FJR events!

LOL

EDIT-

I can't give enough props to Kaitsdad and Fairlaner.

KD and I, working into the late night, tired, hours later, still rocking as a team,

kinda kool.

R- yep, he's a good one.

Thanks Bud.

Really sorry to hear that KrZy8 has met the end of the line. You don't think it is worth a transplant? Somehow, I don't think you will be very happy with the HD after years on the Feejer. Just imagine what the NERDs trip would have been like!

So, what's next?

Ross

Edit: Its great what Kaitsdad and Fairlaner did to help you out! This really is a great community!

I don't care what you're riding I will still wait for you at the next corner but I would rather listen to a YZ450 than a Hardley.

I have a head. PM sent.

Yeah you sure do. All I can think of is what I would want to do in the same situation. If you have now correctly diagnosed the problem as a cracked head (I'd want so sort of visual proof of that before proceeding) and a source for a cheap replacement head, which I'm assuming FJRay is offering, there isn't a chance in hell that I wouldn't pull that old head off of there (again) and try to resurrect the bike. You've already done that once, so you already know what is involved. Was it really that painful? Now that you've seen it done, you could probably do it again yourself, right?

All of these other people are just writing off the whole bike as if a bad head is the end of the line. Why so? Put a price tag on the bike if it were running fine. Now figure out what it's worth right now in its current condition. That would be all the incentive I'd need to get to work.

I suppose that some folks would try to part out the bike and recoup some of your loss. Seems like a long and torturous path to me. I'd rather just fix it. Since you have other bikes in the shed there's no rush. But having it fixed and back on the road some day would be a very cool thing, IMO.

And if it hasn't run, I don't think you'd need to get another head gasket, but somebody else would need to speak about the (stretchy) bolts. Yeah, they've been torqued, but they've not been through heat cycles. Does that make them reusable?
