Hey, it never rains, it only pours right?

After fixing a broken *rear* sub-frame I find the *front* sub-frame has broken, again! This, after once already removing all the plastic and sub-frame, reenforcing, and welding. Sigh. Good thing I'm patient or KrZy8Eh would be raffled off at a Harley bash the Jap Crap event..

Anyway, me thinks it's time to get rid of them heavy, 2006 vintage Soltek lights and get some LED monsters or equivalent. IIRC, MadMike has some cool looking HID projector lights, so does Dale, Warchild.

Crap, though, more downtime, sigh.

That's one tired bike, and proof it doesn't pay to live at the end of a rough dirt road.

You ever got any good news ya *******?
Yah! I got 14.1 vdc of charging circuit, with *everything* running!

Take that you Gen1 charging deprived deviant!

Maybe KrZ8Eh should be a trailer queen like the Harley?

Hey, you interested in purchasing a slightly used 2006 FJR?

Sounds like you need to take a class at your local community college and get proficient at welding. It'll probably be more cost effective for you in the long run. :p

Pretty soon it is gonna be brand new, with you replacing it piece by piece. I love your tenacity and patience with your bike.

Or weigh twice as much as the original with all the reinforcing going on.

I tried to tell everyone (many years ago when Baja Designs first approached me to test the Solteks), that IMHO these lamps are simply ill-suited for motorcycle application, primarily due to their massive size/weight.

But Ian (Skyway) thought he could design a bracket to adequately hold them, so I gave away the project to him....

The brackets he came up with for these massive lamps were actually pretty damn good, as long as the rider kept the bike on relatively smooth road surfaces.

But when I was following Don's subframe trials/tribulations early on, I knew right away that the punishment Don was subjecting these lamp mounts to was never going to work over time.... unfortunately, this proved correct.....

Guess it's shopping time for Don at FuturvisionHID.com.... score these high-beam FV-1000 lamps, and you can still own the night! B)

Are you telling me that the subframe cracked due to hanging lights off it?

What they hell are they made out of? Or does he frequently get airborne on his FJR?

Hey Don, maybe you should think about using a different bike for running the Baja 1000, I don't think the FJR is designed for it.

First...you'd have to understand that the Soltek lights way 3.5# each (as the ballast is actually inside the lamp).

Second...you'd have to know that Don lives at the end of a 5+ mile long washboard dirt road.

Third...There is a history of failed front stay issues using Soltek lighting but normally it's after one has dropped their bike and "tweaked" the stay. Something that is easily done with a heavy bike vs. an aluminum front stay/mirror-windshield-dashboard-nosepiece mount.

Sorry, Don. You and I have discussed the reasoning behind my removing the Soltek lights and brackets and going with the units I'm currently running. I hate that this has "bitten" you but I appreciate your epiphany moment....

I also add that welding my front stay was an option but I chose to buy a factory-fresh new one so there would be no issues regarding brittle areas. I had the old one welded and it has gone to a new home when someone posted they needed one to repair a wrecked bike.

So paving the driveway/road/access path/highway-to-hell costs how much?

Fixing bikes costs how much?

Have they crossed over, yet??????
