I'm giving this thread a bump. About an hour from starting to load up the bike, tuning the Spot back on, and heading south-ish. Two weeks off the bike has made me a little lazy about getting rolling again. Fresh oil, fresh air in the tires (that Cali air was pretty stale). The PR-4s look a little better than half cooked with a little less than half a full trip on them (6,000 miles so far). Guess I'll be tire shopping someplace in a while. Hope to see some of you.

By the way, I've never named my bike. Just never thought of the right one. Like a tattoo. If I thought of anything I wanted on my skin for the rest of my life, I'd put it right on, but so far . . . nah. Anyway, after passing through Cooperstown and seeing all the references to James Fenimore Cooper, and after staying with some family up here in CNY, where my nephew bagged a deer on opening day with a bow and arrow, and after spending all day helping him "process" it, it came to me. And this is NOT meant to be taken literally. The name of my '05, finally, shall be . . . "Deerslayer!"

Anything to keep those bastids off the road. But it's a lot easier to do it with a gun, or even a box, than a bike.

My old '05 could have been named "Deerthumper" because the one that I hit with it didn't seem to die, at least not right away.

After it shattered every piece of plastic on the front end of the bike it still got up and hobbled off into the woods.

Be careful in your travels through the eastern states. Those things are all over the place in PA and the Virginias, and now that the hunting has begun they are more apt to be moving around during the day than they normally do.

Good to see you on the go. Had a fantastic dinner in Charleston last night, and awoke to pouring rain this AM, Marianne will get a taste of what you and I had in the upper midwest, but much warmer. Heading south shortly to be in Key West by Wed noon.

Stay safe, Mike.

Damn, it's not original? But funny how we all cross paths all over the country, isn't it? Ralph, just read your last updates with interest. Heading to Gettysburg tomorrow and then I think I'll use your D.C. List as a guide in a day or so.

We saw an amazing amount in pretty short order and obviously can't wait to go back and do even more. This was my first time in DC and some of the images I am retaining are very, very thought provoking and others leave me with great pride and respect. I also cannot help but think that if the 535 people in the house respected the country the way we respect the institution, they would dump the insane party lockstep ******** and their grasping need to stay in power to build their pensions! We so need term limits!

After touring the Gettysburg Battlefield on Tues, Mr Mike has set a spell in the First State and has departed in fine weather toward our Nation's Capitol.

Happy and safe travels - come back anytime sir... it was our pleasure to meet you!

It was a wonderful visit, Lisa, and thanks so much to you and Will and your fine family. And your huge, lovable dog. I'm in Front Royal VA ready to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway south today, to be followed my many miles of very tasty roads! Sure hope I can do a report someday worthy of the ride.

Fred, I'm going to stop somewhere and pick up a box, just in case.

Great times indeed, Rog. It'll all come put in the RR when I can type with more fingers. Looks like I forgot to turnty SPOT on today, the day I rode the Dragon and the Cherohala. Enjoyed the former a lot, and a lot more than I expected. The latter was a ho-hum IMHO. Just a pretty ride in the hills through the woods along a river. Might feel differently if it wasn't so much like lots of other roads in Cali and throughout the west. Tomorrow I'm just pushing down the Tennessee slab to see my brother's family. Forecast looks nice, except for the rain, hail, thunder and lightning, and the possible TORNADOES!! Sheesh.

My son just home from North Carolina and said he ran into you at Wendy's in Robbinsville.

He was on the 2007 AE.

Deerslayer? BTDT not sure I would tempt fate that much.

Geez Mike I waved at you at least 30 times when I was on the Dragon during EOM, never seen so many Blue FJR's away from Sacramento. Have fun, ride hwy 16 across Arkansas if you can on your way west. Wheatie and bug approved!!
