Went to Huntington Beach in Orange County, CA to see Fairlaner's new 2013 FJR on Sunday 11/11, Tina is every bit as beautiful, bold and stylish as she is in the photos.

Silver Penguin and Andy, Miss Jilly Beans and Mr. La Pinguina Plata, hosted this FJR Forum event at their home; johnny80s and my Labrador puppy Osito also attended.

Richard, Jill, Andy and John then prepared a Full English breakfast and it was so incredible! Actually johnny80s only made the coffee, but it was damn good coffee Juan!

After we had eaten, John and I sat at the table for a while. He did a manful job of cleaning those serving plates but even he was beaten down by the sheer volume of food. Still a credit to Los Robustos though.
I'm so happy and very proud to announce to my Fellow Los Robustos M/C Members that Papa Chuy Viejo is keeping his weight at the proper and required LRMC level! Andy on left and BeemerDonS at the right:

Congrats on your new baby!

I was wondering if you can help me out by finding out if you can switch your speedo / odo from mph to km/h? And will the LCD display on the right also switch, i.e. will the mpg and ambient temp also switch?

On my SuperTenere, the speedo and mpg switch from imperial to meric, but the temperature setting remains in degrees F.

Also, where is the heated grips control button?

The speedo and odo will switch from miles to Kilometers, and when the do that all the other related info switches too. The LCD on right has 3 screens and you can change them around as u wish.

The temp appears to be only available in degrees F.

The Heated grips are controlled via the menu button and the LCD screen, there is no big dial as in previous models.

Right now I reach out with a finger and twist a knob, which I can and will do without taking my eyes off the road. Seems like a sacrifice in usability just for a gee-whiz factor... but I haven't sat on one yet.

I can't fully answer about how complicated the Yamaha menus are, but I can say that BMW's similar dash isn't hard to get used to. The Beemer has a button for the heated grips and buttons for the heated seats, when you press the button the LCD display turns on an icon for the heated item and displays the settings for the heat. What is key is the readability of the LCD which was poor during daylight hours but good at night. I sincerely hope that Yamaha's display is easily readable by my old eyes.

I did find that the LCD took my eyes off the road way more than what I like and I did have occasions where I had to put off doing some things until I had the time to look at the display. While the knob may be easy for you to use, Yamaha has improved the reliability and ease of heat control by making the system digital. The change to digital display for speed improves reliability and ease of implementation but trades away resolution when speed is rapidly changing. This is one case where I like a needle, I don't care if it is a real needle or a digital imitation of a needle but the attribute being measured needs the responsiveness and 'at a glance' intuitiveness of a needle. It is hard to give up familiar things like knobs, switches and needles.

The system is REALLY easy to use and very readable during daylight (unless the sun is behind you).

I usually leave the screen in the screen adjustment mode so i know that i only have to click the menu button once to get to the grips or twice to get to the info screens. Also you hands don't have to leave the bars to do any of this.

Yea, but if you are on an AE then that knob is in a stupid location. Catch your gauntlet or cuff while reaching down there and you've just downshifted with only one hand on the bars.
