Most likely the same route as Groo or close to it since we live about a half mile from each other - what day are you leaving on Dan as we should ride out together?
Not sure yet Mike... may depend on how much vacation I have left by then... and how long I can get away from some work related stuff that will be happening in that timeframe.

Rockabill... are your letters representing a day's ride? If so, them's some early risen, late arrivin' days...

No those are just rough points on the trail. I do plan to make Salt Lake City it two long days, but the rest of the trip will be a little less intense, with less time on the road and more time to stop and take it all in. I have never been to Glacier NP or Yellowstone NP, so I need a little time to check out the sights.

Any comments or suggestions? Anyone riding out from the east coast interested in meeting up along the way?
I notice your route doesn't take the Yarmouth ferry. Any particular reason?
No reason really. I have taken it a few times but it arrives in Portland at 9:00 pm. I could just leave early in the morning from Halifax and be past Portland by that time. In fact I could be in Westport, CT for a late supper! :)

LOL We'll leave a light on and have the couch made up for you. :)

Any one think it would be smart to post areas/towns/citys to avoid ( for safety sake) for everyone traveling to nafo ?

Just tryin to keep every one safe & no bikes ripped off.

I'll be heading from Calgary around the 21st. Not entirely sure of the route, but likely through Bozeman, Yellowstone and Jackson.

Have to bail out on Saturday, and run up to Oshkosh for the EAA convention ... will go through the Black Hills.

After that is an "around the lakes" to Montreal.

Short break to head over to Austria, hitting the alps on a rented bike.

Then back to Calgary via Duluth, and who knows where else.

Overall... probably 7000 miles.

Will post more detailed info once I've sorted things out. WOuld like to hear from other folks heading down from Alberta or BC to see if we can get a squadron of FJ's somewhere along the way.

Ok, my route is pretty short compared to most :blushing: , but here it is. Everything north of I-70 is unfamiliar to me, so if anybody has any suggestions, please post up.

Mine is easy. Rockford to Fargo ND. Fargo ND to Omaha NE. Omaha to NAFO. BORING super slab, but 25 miles over the 1500 needed for a BBG!

If you're going to be in Yellowstone, you might want to consider going northeast on US-212 over Beartooth Pass. I've haven't been there yet myself, but it's on my list of must-ride roads:

I will take the 15 to the 70 and possibly do it on one shot. Unless I get the itch to stop at Cabellas in Utah! Hopefully it will be below 100 degrees this year. Heat makes me sleepy.

Here is our planned route coming from Chicago.

2475346050_e38b1c61c1_b.jpg

Will take us up through the Wisconsin backroads, across MN, through the Badlands and Mt. Rushmore and then down all of the backroads I knew to get from Wyoming to Golden - including a late mountain jaunt.

The ride back to Chicago is going to be a quick blast.

Right now there are two of us coming on the ride. We are leaving Chicago on Wednesday July 23 and getting back the 28th. If anyone wants to meet up anywhere along the way let me know.

Cheers!

Greg

Subject to change - rev one!
Don,

Don't know if your path through Utah has underlying reasons behind it, but I had a blast making a bit of a wider loop through southeastern parts of the state on my way to Reno a few years ago...

If you have never riden the Million Dollar Highway from Durango to Montrose and the Western Slope of Colorado, you are missing one of the finest rides in the world!!

It looks like there will be quite a few of us in the Mt. Rushmore / Custer State Park area on July 22 or 23rd. Is there a place and a time where we could meet up?

Taking my new FJR to the BMW National in Gillette, WY the weekend before NAFO and then heading West through Montana, Yellowstone, Idaho. Turning East for Golden and Tulsa in Boise and riding through Salt Lake City to meet some new Forum friends. I'm mostly retired and looking forward to a great two weeks on the road on a great new scooter.

I said earlier that my route might change. It did. My son and I will be taking this route (subject to spontaneous adjustment along the way)

NAFO-Route2008.jpg

I'm hoping that he can even kick tires w/ me for a while on Thursday and meet some of the people that I've been warning him about.

"Now Son, these are perfect examples of what not to do with your life..."
