Wheatie,

There are a couple of options for Marietta. I can list them out if you like. You can either go around all of downtown Marietta, or take an extended way thru Marietta. Depends on what you would like to do.

Sure...any thoughts you have...either list them or markup the closeup of Marietta I have shown and post it up.

K. See if I can do this and get the street names right..

Once you cross the Washington St. Bridge ( Rt 7 ) turn R on to US 60/SR7/3rd Street, will be the 2nd stoplight. Go a couple of blocks, then turn L onto Putnam Street. This will take you up thru the Marietta College campus. At the end , turn R onto 7th Street until you rejoin the original route, turning L at the Speedway onto Greene(?) St.

One positive to this, you don't have to go back out into the main stream of traffic and wait for the pokey leading green arrow. Sometimes that light takes FOREVER to activate.

OR....you could take another route thru the Historic Harmar Village, cross the Putnam St. Bridge, turn R onto Front St and see the "downtown" area and pass the Lafayette Hotel and the Marietta River/Levy. Kinda a neat place for a photo op for some. Then you can continue that way and rejoin said original route, OR continue out Newport Pike until the stoplight right before I77 and turn L onto Acme(?) St which again will take you to SR26. That way gives some other fuel options for those you might need gas or don't like usin Speedway gasoline.

Positive to this:

-Historic buildings for history buffs, marker line of seeing how far underwater our town was thanks to Hurricane Ivan ( basically you would have been underwater riding down the street ), um....the sights of local college girls strutting around ;) I guess that would count as " scenery."

Those are just some options for anyone whom might like to try someting a bit different.

Also seeing as how you are coming thru Marietta, and I found out I'll be on midnites that month ( blah  ) I might meet you guys in the Marietta area to do the ride. Be just a bit easier in case I don't get much sleep on Friday night. But I might still meet you in Athens. I will let you know the closer that day comes. I STILL will be on the ride. Depending on what time you are planning to arrive in Athens, I can meet with you on Friday and get a bite to eat? Or whomever arrives on Friday if it's during the day we can get some grub or take a quick spin on some local roads :p

Umm, uh-h-h :dntknw: I dunno, somebody pick for me.

Can I start packing yet?
May have to do that...but would rather let each rider guess judge for themselves.

We may have 15 riders...or we may have 25 to 30 riders. Either way, we may have 3, 5 or 6 groups and will want to put those that can ride safely at a faster pace in the earlier groups and those that can ride safely at a medium pace in the latter groups to try to keep space and separation between the groups and not end up in one big conga line.

People will need to look honestly at their own abilities and put themselves where they will be comfortable. Although I don't think any of the groups will be slow...Don't worry about getting stuck in a "slow" group, or worry about getting caught up in a hell-fire pace group. Read previous posts regarding this...

And YES you can pack...dog gone it, I'm ready for this ride right now! :yahoo:

This will really be an awesome riding day...jes be hopin' we get good weather for one of the two weekends set aside for this ride. :clapping:

For everyone's benefit I have no illusions about my riding skill, it is what it is and it is different from yours. If I am holding you up toot yer Fiams and pass me safely. I have been bunched up with a 'fast' group behind a slower rider and it can be dangerous. If you can and want to go faster than me go ahead, do not let me hold you up. I am not so thin skinned that I need to increase danger to increase my ego. Ego gets parked when the ride begins.

In other groups I ride with we all know each other and we line up about the same all the time. Mark, you know these folks you can point me in the right direction. If everyone keeps their head the pack(s) can can get straightened out in a short time. If I get with faster folks and we end up at the back of the pack that is fine. I want to ride and then meet up with folks and talk about the ride.

So, lessee, 17 weeks in Feb, 21 weeks in March, 30 weeks in April, hey nearly time to pack! :p

So everyone is good with this revised route? I've only gotten the comment on Marietta.

'Course I'll need some road condition scouters as soon as the weather clears up and it's safe to ride again. Local volunteers?

Whatever route you like is fine with me. Is it April yet?

Marty-You qualify for the fast group solo on your FZ1. Are you as quick 2 up on 'ol Feejer? I'm thinking probably yes. Or at least the lead of the medium group.

Route looks good to me. I already made it into a route for my GPS and loaded it. I'll have to check it to make sure I put it in correctly, but it looks good to me. Come on April :yahoo:

While Sally appreciates grinding the pegs (we did completely wear out a brand new Conti in 765 miles one weekend), I am a bit more considerate 2-up, and the FJR does have some tired suspension parts.

The medium group sounds like the right place for us to start - just don't ask me to lead it. I am not familar with those routes, and I use paper maps, and that would make us the slow group...

I sure hope the snow is gone by then.

Geezer, you want to hook up on the way? I am sort of between you and there, scenic-ly speaking.

At this point I plan on heading to Ohio on Friday. I may stay in Powell Friday night, but I'm not sure yet. I'll let you know when we gat a little closer to April. Right now I'm in Myrtle Beach chasing a little white ball around. B)

I'd be happy to help with scouting also. That is if this snow ever stops-about 5 inches so far today  .

I'd also be happy to help do RECON if need be. I'm always looking for a good excuse to play HOOKIE!!!!

Since I haven't rode with most of you yet, I would like to know what your medium, medium-fast stand for. I generally ride 5-10 above in the corners I will add another 10 or so by the time I am done with it.

Well, for those curious, my average speed on these roads would more than likely be anywhere from 70-80. Thru the corners, I usually take a 35mph turn at about 45 or so. But then again I know *most* of these roads fairly well. Once we get on 556/536 I more than likely wont go over 35-40. But that is one twisty road!
