So just an interesting tidbit. I spoke with a girl I work with today and got an idea. I'm going to scout the route and have her placed in strategic locations to take photos of everyone as they approach, pass thru, and exit a turn. Just something I thought might be fun and a neat souvenier for those of you coming from a ways away. I haven't quite got it figured out just where I am going to have her be, but I am thinking since we will be in the Marietta area, maybe we could make a stop somewhere for a group shot, or if we go to Big Muskie, she could meet us there for a group shot. Anyhow, just an idea I had. I've always wanted some good action shots of me on the FJR, and this would be my chance.

Let me just add here, that she is a photographer on the side and shoots weddings, senior pics, blah blah blah. So these won't be just some little shot. They will be a high quality pic.
be careful with that. if she's readily visible, you might get into issues of target fixation. and i'm not talking because we see some chick on the side of the road and get googly. i just mean we're entering a corner, and a minor distraction can lead to issues. i've pretty much gotten used to the 3 different businesses that set up shop down at deals gap, but every once in a while on other rally rides there will be someone pulled over taking pics of their friend, and i could see where it would be a problem. when i've taken pics of buddies during rides, it's been during a stop and i'd tell them i'm going ahead to set up, so at least they know it's coming.

i'd like to think that simply because we're on fjr's means we're a bit more skilled, more mature, and less prone to rookie mistakes, but i thought i'd at least post my opinion as a heads up.

That would be my caution to riders as well, dean, at the start of the morning ride. Thompsonian will have to let us know where she will be setting up so I can warn the riders about this ahead of time.

I would expect riders to look through the turn and not be thinking of anything else but their riding and the situation in front of them.

Just so people know...this ride will have lots of turns...some of them right after a rise so people will have to keep their eyes peeled and senses aware. Do not make any assumption about how tight the blind curve is that you are entering or that the road after the rise continues straight...you will get bit if you do not commit fully to absorbing and scanning the road situation ahead and reacting to it.

Enclosed here are the turn directions for the 2008 SE Ohio Ramble. This sheet should be able to fold longwise and fit in your tankbag for easy viewing. Print these turn directions along with any of the maps shown in post #1 to find your way around on Ramble Saturday. I would also advise bringing your official State of Ohio roadmaps or Gazetteers. That is what I will do.

I will bring a paper copy of these turn directions for those who PM me .

I would advise those with GPS units to construct your routes using the turn directions and the maps shown in post #1. My S&T route gets a little funky in a couple of the small towns in the east end and may lead you astray on Ramble day...plus this way you will get familiar with the route as you are building your GPS file. However, if any GPS'er builds a route from these turn directions and maps and wants to share it with the others...feel free to do so.

I will be going old-fashioned (maps) as always. T-MINUS FIVE WEEKS AND COUNTING... :yahoo:

Yes, by all mean I will let people know just where she will be at so they can be aware of her prescence. As soon as the roads clear up and the weather dries a bit, I'm going to do the entire route and choose a couple of spots. More than likely she will be on 78 and possibly 676. Mostly here around the Marietta area since that is where she lives. What she will do is take some shots of everyone, then burn them to a CD for me. I can then either send you a CD of everyone, or somehow send you a file of the pic. *HOPEFULLY* she won't be right at the side of the road, but a bit off of it as to not distract anyone whilst mid-turn.

5 Weeks!!!

I just reserved a room, got my new registration in the mail, and brushed the new inch of snow off the car.

Getting an attack of PMS (Parked Motorcyle Syndrome)!!!

I presume the rain has hit our Ramble Route...looks from the weather reports that I may need to ride in on some watercraft. Hope the roads aren't too damaged and recover..

...as the Ramble is only 30 days from today. :yahoo:

As soon as I can get the Feej out the road, I'm gonna scout the entire route just to be on the safe side. So far I know that 26 was under today. Not real sure about the others.

Good that we have 30 days. drool drool

Reservation made!!

Yet to do:

wait till the snow melts so I can get the bikes out of winter storage;

get the "Altitude Sickness" ECU installed;

16,000 mile check-up / maintenance;

replace the winter air in the tires;

get some miles in so I don't feel like a noob;

get some more miles in so I don't look like a noob;

:D

no rain date for me, have to be in another part of the country that weekend...

Mark I see you got some of that stuff and it's coming my way. How do your snow tires work?
Not as well as I'd like...it makes it harder to grind that peg down with the white stuff. :)

(j/k...I have almost all of my peg feeler metal)

The snow will be all gone end of April...so y'all best be ready to ride. :clapping:

Ok boys and gals. I have received a present, ZUMO 550, and have been mapping the route. I have mapped 3 routes.

a- full route

b- Full -15 min short cut

c- Full - 15 -30 short cut.

I have encountered one problem that mapquest verified to be legit. Right before Lunch there is no left turn on the bridge. We can only do a U-Turn or another route to avoid a U-Turn. Any one have a problems with U-Turns?

I can send this routes to anyone for asking. alexk_msf at yahoo doc com

Try zooming in more and you should be able to make the turn. I had the same problem when I made my routes, but I zoomed in as close as mapsource would let me and picked a different via point and it worked. Then I found that there is not left turn into Bob Evans, but there is a cross street just north of Bob Evans, and that let me get there just fine.

Why does this exchange remind me of

? :D

Okay...

I'm leaving this coming Saturday for a week with the family, so I won't be able to pester ya or answer any questions during that time. However, before I go I wanted to make one last pitch for some volunteer ride leaders.

Wishes for these ride leaders

1) Have led FJR paced rides before ... (can be sightseeing pace for that group or "medium to faster paced")

2) Familiar with these roads ...not as important but very helpful

3) Be VERY familiar with the route as laid out so it seems second nature.

Let me know if you can help out in this way...and tell me your background when you do.

It would also be helpful if people bring their first aid kits if ya got 'em...and let me know if you have been trained in CPR

I hope to have my inbox full when I get back. :)

I guess I'll have to wait till next year, I found out yesterday that my wife is having surgery on April 14th and she'll be in the hospital for 3-10 days
