If I'm able to make it down it wont be till Saturday morning.what time is the riders meeting and kickstands up?
The first group usually heads out around 8:00

FYI Marietta is about a 2.5 hr ride for me (from Brunswick) if I slab it down 77. That's doing 10-15 mph over the posted 65

...and if your not planning on spending the night, plan on a 550-600 mile day for yourself

Like Joe said, usually between 7:30 & 8 is ksu.

Best bet might be to plan on meeting a group mid morning. We'll get the routes touched up and posted so we can spur on some conversation about who's riding what when and maybe that will help get you a link up point.

Unless, of course, you're an early bird...

Slow ride trophies arrived today. Two first place, two second place. Still waiting to see if the guy that won the worst place trophy from last year is going to show up up to defend his trophy. If not I need to get a worst place trophy.

Practice up everyone. and no Joe you can't use your training wheels.

Ray,

Last year I didn't get to stick around for the shenanigans...I will be there for them this year...no training wheels required. So how many beers must be consumed prior to the slow ride competition?

Are there going to be spotters for this or do we just let the fools fall? How is it done anyway? Timed over a set distance?

No spotters...bystanders holding the participants' beer.

I got scammed by Michelin for the slow race last year. Damn fresh PR3's + freshly coated asphalt = impossible to do steering corrections. The contact patch would stay planted and move the bike above it!

Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I'm already working on my excuse for this year.

I have no excuse.

No way do I participate...jes sayin'. It is a fun activity for the bystanders though.

...and there may or may not be a repeat performance from that ringer from MI - UselessPickles.

Yeah, he had an unfair advantage.

# of adult beverages he consumed = 0.

Approximate body weight = 125 pounds.

So not only was he stone cold sober, he also had a weight advantage.

Not to over-complicate this, but we just may have to come up with a handicapping system. Kinda like the F1 / NASCAR guys - at least minimum weight requirements.

But ... spotters? Spotters?!? Hell - so spotters is why so many of us were merely spectating. You know, bike goes down:

1. Make sure you're OK.

2. Point, laugh, mock, take pictures.

3. Help get bike off you and upright.

4. Negotiate ransom price of pictures from #2 in bottles of beer.

Hope so, but I thought I read somewhere he sold his bike?
Nah. I think he's just shifted his focus to pedal-style bikes. He was looking at coming to Tech Day VI last weekend but has been fighting a bug (could be from a pre-invasion Canadian dirty bomb, but I won't start that rumor) and thought better of it considering the weather.

I'm working on the guilt trip angle for pickles. He's got to get healthy first, but after that, I told him the priority is for me to have someone to follow so I can learn how not to fall down. Since he's got a better record than I (totaled bike wise), he needs to be my flight lead for this trip.

Left to my own devices, I might end up in NC for lunch Friday, and be back to Marietta by bed time...

Pickles is an awesome group leader.

I had the opportunity to ride with him last year out of Caldwell for the Saturday ride with our group of Pickles, Naskie, Designflaw, and myself. No one wanted to lead when we left the Hotel so I offered to lead. To say I struggled to follow the GPS route, make sure I had three behind me, and follow those insane roads would be an understatement.

After a couple of hours of following, Pickles mercifully offered to lead. (I think he just got sick of seeing the brake lights of this flatlander in every blind corner and over the crest of every hill.) I’m pretty sure we picked up the pace a quite a bit but I was much more comfortable not having the distraction of navigating and had a blast the rest of the day.

Same here. Got a cold/flu/plague about 3 weeks ago. Beat it after sleeping 71 of 72 hours. Spent Easter out at my gf's sisters place. 2 days later, EXACT same symptoms. That fecker came back after laying a beating on me. Ended up missing 5 of 10 days at work. I've been back for a week now but I *still* have it. This place sounds like a tuberculosis hospital with everybody coughing.

On the plus side, I have managed to quit smoking.

Sadly I was informed yesterday I would be working some weekends through spring. I was kind of anticipating this and that's why I havnt made any hotel reservations yet. Im still hoping to be off for this event but I wont know till the last min. so to speak. I REALLY want to go to this one since its so close to home. I'll just have to wait and see. Rest assured I will be ready to go at a moments notice!!!!!

Does anyone remember who won the "Worst Place" trophy last year and is he comming this year to defend?

Do I need to get a new "Worst Place" and put Wheaty's and Extream's name on it?
