Sick of heat, sick of buffeting behind fairing

Falcon, I'm still a fan of the project and you're still not allowed within 20 yards of my bike. :D

Keep it up, and let us know how long the "Back to Winter Configuration" conversion actually takes when you get to it.

Some things should never be seen naked::::: your grandma, your priest and the FJR.

I need to call my therapist now. :help:

How is the heat now?
What heat? :D

I've reinstalled the side panels and threw on the saddlebags so I could do some testing with them on, to see if anything peculiar happens aerodynamically or with more weight in rear. The bike might be *slightly* more wheelie prone now with the battery and fairing gone, but I am a big guy (6 ft 3, 275lbs) so it doesn't wheelie as easily as some people describe it here, even with the bags on, and partially filled.

Why do people keep saying to get a different bike? This one is perfectly fine! B)

Added turn signals and the strap back to the frame on each side.

I think I'm getting bar-end mirrors.

Still mulling options for cowling for instrument cluster and electronics...

well done.

an idea to ponder -- the quick change-over conversion kit. make conversion via quick disconnects/dzus -- go from naked to full faring in 15 seconds.. it'll be another fun project!

IIiii like it! Little more work on the headlight and cluster brackets, hide a few more things, add the Muzzy 4-1, it wouldn't be a bad looking bike at all IMHO.

Update: I added bar-end mirrors. It officially looks like a hooligan bike. One thing that I noticed about the FJR in stock trim is that nobody ever said anything to me about the bike. One guy once asked me what brand it was, and I got the standard "Thought it was a BMW" reply.

Since ripping the fairing off, things are quite different, now this happens:

- girl's ask me to take them for a ride.

- cars pace me on the highway to get a better look

- people say "nice bike!" or "what is it?!"

All that happened in the same day. We periodically warm up into the 60s and 70s here so I will be riding the bike as is thru the winter. I have been too busy to get going on the fabricating cowling pieces, but santa is bringing me more tools and a rolling tool chest - if I am nice. That should get me back into the garage. Hopefully by spring I'll have things covered up enough to be confident I can ride in rain, and then I can start doing weekend trips again. The plastics may not be going back on for a while...

falcon.....we need more pictures please :clapping: :fans: :drinks: :dinamo: .....OK.....pretty please.... ....

Man, this has been something to watch. I can't decide if I'm watching a train wreck or the birth of Frankencycle. Whichever, Falcon, I admire your enthusiasm.

Seems to me if you get get some custom close fitting fiberglass pieces for the frame, to cover it and the wiring, it would look pretty good. That and a fly screen to hide the brackets and cluster.

Why not ? This is how design works-sometimes-and it takes some balls to do it. Just for my sake, I hope all you did was on the up-and -up, and

not just a look-at-me stunt.

If you really did invest all the time and rep. into this "just because"....thank you. ideaguy
