Mike, you gotta tell me more about these and what are the good years if I'm looking used
I'm not the one to ask. I "fell" into my deal because I'd talked with Ray during the Hwy 36 ride, so I knew what he had. Hmmmmm, Highlander is the one who keeps finding the "buys"...1st the NewGen FJR, then the KLR.

How about a four wheeler with a green sticker?
So Steve, are you going to trailer it down and join us??????????

Need to find out more info. the range on the four wheeler isn't that great.

I would put it on the back of the 4x4 pick up

That bastage stole a KLR too? When?? I must be working too much lately to properly follow along.

There are enough '07 KLR's sitting on the floor that I bet you could rock a seriously righteous deal. I'm jus' sayin'...

$4,699 Out the Door Price

Show other dealers and they'll match it.

Wow -- you guys are like starved hyenas on bunny rabbits. "Enablers" is nowhere near a strong enough word.

Check out the article ("download the full story") linked at the bottom of this link:

Sure sounds like the '08 model revamp was aimed at keeping it inexpensive but tuning it more for the adventure touring I would be most inclined for. E.g., less toward motocross bike - more toward dirt road explorer bike, large gas capacity, etc.

If that revamp nails what I'm looking for as much as I think it might, it's tempting. If it's not or if it's too much money for too little difference, then an older used one probably makes more $$ sense for me. OTOH, I'm not married anymore and there's some freedoms that might allow an '08 itch to get scratched if it itches badly enough.

I suppose every relationship has its checks and balances. You write the check, and hide the balances :yahoo:

Here's a review from a long time rider of the PRE 08 KLR's. Make your own decision, but like TWN and OV said there are some killer deals on the 07 now the 08 is out. Like the Concours, Kawi has been runing the KLR for about 20 years in it's current form, they finally upgraded the 08, big year for Kawi I guess !!

Aftermarket is huge !

There some pretty decent deals on CL's too , some set up pretty nice. Don't forget the wee Strom also !

peer pressure , PEER PRESSURE !! :yahoo:

Hell Blue..tie a gas can to the quad and bring it on down !!

Are those Happy Trail panniers? If so, you should sell them your pics, they are better than what's on their site :) Do you like em?

Yes they are , but I'll be taking the free advertising off when I get the chance. I like 'em but splitting lanes is a challenge, sometime feel like I'm riding a trials bike, balancing and slipping though brain dead latte drinking cell phone using nimrods ! !

do you like em? are they built well?
Yep they hold a ton-o-stuff ! Really well built and demount really easily without tools in about two minutes flat. I'll be ditching them for the commute & the rack is well built too btw.
They also build the rack for the DRZ400 so I they are in the running as the least expensive aluminum panniers I have found.

I am also considering some soft panniers that have a steel rack and aluminum plate backing for about $300 less. The problem I have with that is that one trip to AK might do in the soft ones...the Aluminum ain't gonna rust and who cares if they get dirty?

We are merely "encouragers". heh-heh-heh-heh-heh...yuck, yuck, yuck! :yahoo:

Y'know, a used one might already have the "doohickey" modification. But you'd have enough time to break-in a new one and be ready to go.....Should we ride the dualsports up to visit after WFO? Jist tryin' tuh hep!

Yeah, you prolly should -- I may have one by then. I'd like to at least ride one before I buy. Even if I'm likely to get the '08, I'm thinking an '07 or earlier would be a nice reference for how the species feels.

And that's . . . 'cause I have a fever . . . from researching these KLRs some of the grizzled and old but wise forum members have been acquiring. This evening, I sat on a blue '08, with a red '08 to one side and a red '07 to the other. There was a dealer markup on it of about $650 over the $5399 sticker (because "there aren't too many of them out there and they're going fast") and I was quoted something like $650 for 5 year warranty. The '07 was listed at full msrp -- $5299?

Setting aside this dealer's pricing decisions, it looks like there are so many improvements in a side by side comparison that it'd maybe take a couple thousand in add ons to get them close to equal. Before I started spending to do the mods of which you speak -- whatever a "doohickey" may be, I have seen its mention before.

I don't think I'll buy anything but an '08 from what I saw in a side by side1 comparison, especially after researching the newly upgraded '08. You look at the 2 model year bikes like that and you can immediately see the upgrades you've read about, and the '08 gets the nod easily over the '07 I think. Petal rotors instead of plain discs, two piston per caliper brakes compared to single piston, new swing arm, nicer bodywork, etc. Undoubtedly, there's a LOT of farkling still required, but . . .

. . . a blue or green '08 may be in my immediate future.

1 but have not ridden any year KLR

********. Walk in the door five minutes before closing and offer them list, OTD including the extended warranty. That's what I did on the Wabs - the only one in within 4 dealerships (T.O. to Santa Maria) - and we settled for just $100 more.

Be a prick. It's fun! ;)
