OK now the big question for you guys that have received them and have them mounted: How effective are they? Do they provide a decent amount of protection from the wind? Inquiring minds would like to know.

I ordered a set of "black" ones. For $20 delevered...If they are crap, not a big loss.
Any amount of air that is directed away from thew knuckles would be useful.
Considering the weather here in Toronto, waiting a couple of weeks for delivery isn't an issue.

The weather coverage looks to be about the same as the Vstrom hand guards, but of course the cost is considerably less, which is nice, and these do look a tad nicer to my eye.
Question for n7myr: On my 2014 the Vstrom hand guards I have on it would hit the two protrusions on either side of the center dash panel if the bars are not on risers. Is that also true of these hand guards on a 3rd gen?

mine are on a 2014 gen iii
I have a CeeBailey windshield and I have ML bar risers. they do not hit anything anywhere. like I said before the stock brackets wanted to let them hit the tank which is why I made new brackets.
I had a vstrom with oem guards and these seem to provide about as much protection from wind. for the price they are a great farkle
I think they look better than some do. and getting the wind off my hands helps living in Colorado most times the wind is cold and my old hands need all the help they can get. the heated grips are nice but my fingers still get cold.
the best thing I have ever found to help my fingers were hippo mitts but I have too much crap mounted on the bars and so the mitts do not work well any longer.

Thanks Don. So you did not try them without the ML risers then? I suspect they would also hit (like my Vstrom guards did) but with risers they just barely clear.
OK, much more clearance than the Vstrom guards. Maybe they will clear without the risers. Thanks for the double check and photo evidence.

OK...the install was a bit ..er..interesting. I think I made up some new words
First off, the kit came with plastic "bar ends" and screws. In the trash.
As it turns out, I don't have a mirror fitting on the throttle side so I had to improvise.
I drilled a hole on the bottom side of the guard just oposite of the mounting hole they provided.
Cut the mounting bracket in half, keeping just the flat part with the "slider" hole.
Mounted that bracket on the underside of the bolt that holds the brake lever on.
Used a screw and spacer to mount the guard to that bracket.
Longer screws for the bar end fitting.
All in all, considering they are $20, the install is not that bad.
Might vary with your bike.
I will try to take some pics with a proper camera as the cell phone pics sucked.

With 2014 being my first full time commuting/riding season, I realized early on that I needed more protection against the elements than what my Olympia 4294 Aventador gloves would provide. I did a lot or research on handguards and even considered the V-Stroms but I wanted more wrap around coverage. I seriously considered getting the Hippo Hands but read reviews about the difficulty of getting ones hands in and out of them. So I moved on and eventually bought the Barkbuster Blizzard hand guards ($109 from Revzilla). The install was simple, no mods were needed and I used my stock bar end weights without any issues. I rode in a lot of single digit temps and wet weather days (temps above freezing) and I never had any issues. I did eventually add First Gear heated glove liners just to have the extra comfort. I have now removed them for the summer riding simply because they block (very well) the airflow across my gloves.
As far as fitment, at full left/right turn of the handle bars the Barkbusters slightly touched the windscreen but that wasn't a biggie for me. The only time this occurred was when parking the bike and to offset that I simply raised the windscreen. FWIW I have a Cee Bailey's Up Reverse Contour windscreen, D&D 1" risers and a Brakeaway cruise control.
As far as fitment, at full left/right turn of the handle bars the Barkbusters slightly touched the windscreen but that wasn't a biggie for me. I agree, toss the plastic plugs they give you. Not sure why they even include them in the kit. I ended up flipping the steel brackets they give upside down. They don't say which way to install them. It's all pretty much a guessing game putting these on. When I did that they no longer hit the gas tank. Duh!
I did have to take the little bumps of my windscreen to clear it. It still hits slightly at full turn buts it doesn't seem to be a big deal as far as I am concerned. I do not have risers on my bike for those installing. If I did I would imagine I would have more clearance to work with. Overall I am pleased with the product and you sure as shit can't beet the price. Don't ask my how they do it. In my opinion they look better than the V-strom ones.
Edit: Now that I see the new pic's. I can tell where they are suppose to be. Too late for me

I figured 3 weeks, but they made it from Hong Kong to Texas today 11 days later. I'm going to try to get them mounted tomorrow in time for a 3-day ride to and around Arkansas this coming Monday.
The normal bar end screws look to be M6-1.00x25. I'll try some 1.75" length ones. I've taken the included brackets and lengthen the slot so I can bring them closer to the bars. It looks like that will give me the needed clearance when using the Yammy touring screen. I might also spray them with Plasti-Dip black matte in an effort to have them better match the front fender and the black plastic in the cockpit area.

They do a nice job of blocking the wind. Used along with the Gen3 grip heaters, my hands in moderately insulated gauntlet gloves were quite comfy in the mid-40's.
