When we were in the paddock we were hoping to catch a word with Guy Martin but were unable. We were however able to have a conversation with Simon, one of Guy's entourage. During our discussion I mentioned that I had tried to have Don join us on this trip but Don whined and snivelled about the expense. Simon had a word for our old BeemerDons....

Priceless ... LOL

Boy - I'd enjoy a sidecar ride in that Ariel. I've never seen one of those bikes.

Super envious of your trip, Yama.

I took a night off from posting because I needed my beauty sleep but I now have a great internet connection so let us pick this back up where we left off.

Friday morning after breakfast we jumped back on the 650 V-Strom and headed down to Ramsey and then headed up the mountain. I was all tucked in and had the V-Strom tapped into triple digits (MPH not metric) only to have one of the racers go by me like I was tied to a post. I also stepped of the bike at 105 mph to see if I had stopped. I know you will all scoff but I have video to prove it that will have to wait till I'm back home before I can prove it.

After coming off the mountain with my ego totally deflated I pulled into the paddock to see who was around. I parked beside this KTM Crossbow thinking it would be an easy landmark to find my bike later....

In the paddock the Norton crew were sorting out some transmission gearing....

paddock-2-L.jpg

and the Triumph crew was doing what most owners of Triumphs do, change engines....

paddock-3-L.jpg

Back out in the parking area I found what BMW is calling progress....

paddock-4-L.jpg

I just call it butt ugly. I continued around the track but this time I took a detour off the track at Ramsey and headed towards the Laxey Water Wheel.

paddock-7-L.jpg

The water wheel was one of the first of its kind designed to pump water out of the local mines.

There was a beautifully engineered sidecar rig using a Triumph Triple....

paddock-5-L.jpg

we finished the ride off by going over and checking out the junk shop in Jurby. There was a lot of junk but then some bloke showed up with this....

I just want to know if this bike makes my butt look big.

We viewed the practice session on this evening watching the bikes run down the middle of the small town of Kirk Michael....

Guy Martin....

John McGuinness leading William Dunlop....

practice-3-L.jpg

The sidecar crews finally got a break in the weather that had been plaguing their sessions to this point....

practice-4-L.jpg

This little guy and his dad were able to get close to the action just outside their front door....

practice-5-L.jpg

The sidecars were not the only cool three wheelers out on the Isle of Mann on this night. This very trick trike showed up in the car park in Kirk Michael....

- next report - the first Superbike race of Race Week.

One request...Any pretty ladies over there?

Some of us kinda like pics of them as much as bikes.

Jus sayin.....

This is not some god damn radio call-in show. I don't do requests ya goober but here is one that is age appropriate for you...

I just like the fact that this old lady was interested enough in the TT to come and sit out in the sun for a couple of hours even before the race to get a good seat.

Cantankerous ******* more like...

He gets ornery when he's been drinkin, huh?

:)

We were scheduled to leave the Isle of Mann yesterday afternoon but we had just enough time to catch the first race of the TT which were the first Superbike race. We checked out of the hotel, loaded the support van with our luggage and then rode down to Ramsey to watch the race at Parliament Square.
Things were about to get serious as even the course inspection driver was getting pretty sporty....

DSC_0010-L.jpg

John McGuinness was first on the road on the first lap followed by James Hillier but was already behind on corrected time....

DSC_0015-L.jpg

Guy Martin....

DSC_0018-L.jpg

Martin had already passed Ian Hutchinson on the road.

DSC_0025-L.jpg

It's not good when the man who starts behind you is this close behind you before the end of the first lap....

DSC_0052-L.jpg

The Norton was unmistakable just from its exhaust note....

DSC_0071-L.jpg

While he did not win the race, Bruce Anstey was the talk of the island when he set a new lap record for the Mountain Course of over 132 mph average. He was consistently over 190 mph at the end of the Sulby Straight where they had the speed gun set up.....

The winner of the first IOM TT Superbike Race for 2014, Michael Dunlop who put in over 20 seconds over 2nd place Guy Martin...

I like this shot of William Dunlop because it is in focus unlike most of my photos...

Michael Dunlop & Guy Martin in traffic....

DSC_0165-L.jpg

John McGuinness is still recovering from a wrist injury and just could not be aggressive enough with the throttle to stay on the pace set by Dunlop....

DSC_0167-L.jpg

and then it was over. We headed along the coast back to Douglas and loaded onto the ferry for a few days of riding in Wales before heading home. The IOM TT part of the trip is in the books though I have a ton of video to go through when I get back home. The first part of the trip in Wales was huge fun with beautiful sweeping roads and almost no traffic which was a HUGE change from the last few days on the Isle of Mann as more and more spectators filled the island.
As I started my last report this was the view out the window of my roon at the Royal Ship Hotel in Dolgellau, Wales....

Ah ***... Don would eat that faster than a 10 piece chicken Mcnugget meal

Today was either a rest day for those that wanted a break or a day to go out and explore Wales. Everyone headed out on the road to run through the Welsh countryside to take in some incredible scenery and amazing the amazing history of the area.

We took our first break at the Betws-y-Coed train station....

The chocolate brownie was an out of body experience.

Gerry was playing it cool with the pretty Welsh girl...

The Welsh love their dogs....

DSC_0008-L.jpg

You will have to wait on the video but two of our Kalifornicators did Michael Waltrip proud. Sufficiently fuelled on chocolate we continued north to the coast to visit the Gastell Caernarfon or if your Welsh is a little rusty the Caernarfon Castle.

While on our way back We came upon a Bill & Ben ice cream display. Since Ben was in our group and I was in our group a photo op was required....
