Unfortunately I need to report that almost immediately after the above photo was taken Ben

lost an argument with a car and then bounced off the car and into a stone wall. He is extremely fortunate that he only suffered a compound leg fracture since had he went over the wall the consequences would have been much worse.

The BMW he was riding suffered serious cylinder damage when it stuck the stone wall....

Impact point with the wall....

I will spare you any photos of Ben. The car that crossed into his lane did not stop. We were very fortunate in that there were both a nurse and a doctor that came upon the scene and provided assistance. The ambulance took him a short distance to the same town where we had done the ice cream photo where he required a helicopter air lift to the hospital in Bangor, Wales. We had just gotten word back from our support driver, Simon that Ben is resting as comfortably as possible given the circumstances and will be having surgery in the morning.

Of interest one of the Police first responders was riding a FJR...

edit - Our driver Simon has reported that the hit & run driver was caught. The locals we talked to figured the only reason the driver would have ran was that he probably had a few pints at the pub. Hit & Run is almost unheard of in the area. Everyone was extremely supportive and we can't thank the local people enough for the assistance they provided.

Once back to the hotel we were able to check in with the tour guides and after a long and stressful day I stopped by the bar for a drink. The local welsh beer is called the Purple Moose. As a polite Canadian I thought I should point out that living in Canada and seeing moose, I know that they are not purple...

However after having a few pints of these I may be mistaken about moose being purple.

So sorry to read of Ben's accident in your report's Bill.

The rest of the reports of your trip have been utterly FANTASTIC!!

Some times it's about the taste and as an Upstate New Yorker we all know your taste buds are in your ***. If you ever mention Mich Ultra in one of my ride reports again I will pesonally cut off all your fingers to stop you from posting such rubbish ever again. *******!!!!

I had some spare time Monday morning before we rolled out of Dogallau so I grabbed a few photos of this very pretty old Welsh town....

Day%203-2-L.jpg

Our hotel in Dogallau, the Royal Ship. Great place....

Day%203-3-L.jpg

We spent some time on some fun twisty Welsh roads. One of the highlights was following a lorry driver pulling this mobile home and hauling *** at about 50 mph. The mobile home just about as wide as the road and when he lorry driver came to a narrow stone bridge he did not even lift on the throttle since the home was just high enough by a few inches to clear the walls. When he met up with a tractor coming the other way the home just skimmed over the tractor tire as the lorry drive lifted slightly. This driver was definitely of the school of momentum is your friend. He had me almost covering my eyes a few times before he finally turned onto another road. I road for about another half hour before stopping in Newtown for coffee at this little bakery. The display case was sending me into diabetic shock....

Day%203-4-L.jpg

After getting a little damp from a typical morning of English liquid sunshine I though a mocha and some pastry would fix me right up....

Day%203-5-L.jpg

It was Carl that stuck his danish into the picture. There were also other items in the shop worthy of a photo....

Day%203-6-L.jpg

This old chap showed interest int he bikes and when he learned we were just on our way back from the IOM TT talked to us for quite a while. I'm not exactly sure what he said however....

Day%203-7-L.jpg

After the break it was some more fun twisty Welsh roads down to the town of Crickhowell where we pulled into the Bear Hotel.

The Bear Hotel has one of the highest rated pubs in Great Britain and Simon, our support driver had gone back up to Bangor to take Ben his luggage and to check with the police over the bike so he was delayed so we spent some time in the pub waiting for our luggage and sampling various examples of Welsh beers and single malts.

While I had almost killed off enough brain cells to forget how to operate my Nikon I did manage to snap off this picture of dessert which Jerry, one of our riders in the group, would descibe as "A truely out of body experience"....

Tomorrow is the last day on the bike as we head back to Bornemouth for the last full day on the trip.

Later....

Sorry to read about the accident Bill. Sending good thoughts that the leg surgery is successful and the recovery as quick as possible.

Great pics of the race, thanks for sharing.

Update on Ben -

He had surgery that night on one side of the ankle and they have him scheduled for work on the other side of the ankle on Wednesday. The ankle got crushed when he hit the stone wall unfortunately. He is currently in a ward with a Scot and a Welshman and his spirits are good but he is in for an extended stay in Britian. Ben is from Rio de Janero, Brazil and he might feel that he is in better care here than back home. No one currently knows when the doctors will clear him to fly home.

The hit & run driver was caught by two female police officers doing a traffic check and spotted the blue Vaxhall SUV missing a mirror that was found at the scene of the accident. The driver was detained and charged with leaving the scene. Other charges may be pending.

Not sure if you have access to coverage of the TT in the US (and elsewhere), link here to the ITV site. You may have to register your e-mail address but there's no cost AFAIK.

Dunlop will not be sweeping up all the hardware at the IOM TT this year. Gary Johnson on the Triumph took the win in Monday's Supersport race. Ansley was second with Michael Dunlop third, both rideres on Hondas.

Billy Fitz you finally have gotten around to posting up something that Arkie Goober rushes can really enjoy, pastries and "pie"!

Don't be sore just b/c Yamaha had a dismal 10th place and you were ashamed to wear your Yami hat. It's OK Bill, really. :)
