If coming from So. Cal, would you take the 395 (shorter, but slower), or go up the 5 to the 80?

If yer coming from Fairlaner country, you schedule a flight and rent an Audi when you get there.
Otherwise, you take the slowest twistiest backroads you can find...even if they end up accidentally having gravel on them.

Thanks, I guess that means the 395. If the wife goes, we will truck the bikes up to Silver City. If I go, I will take the 395.

I'd come, but I don't deal with extreme heat very well, just drains me.

End of June will be toasty riding all the way up the 395....and back.......how about next year we have it at say Morro Bay? Lots of fun roads inland of that area and nice and cool at the beach for after the rides!

Leave home at 10 pm and it'll be a nice comfortable night ride all the way up or ride up the coast to SF and cross the valley in the evening.
