OK players.

Working in cooperation with the Iron Butt Association, I have designed a 1028 mile route that is entirely in Nevada. That means first timers and "Single-Staters" can get an SS1K to their individual liking. As Saddle Sore routes go, this one is relatively soft, but still quite scenic and fun.

And now for the best part. Anyone who signs up for the SS1K by July 7th and pre-pays the $42- IBA fee, will be given their certificate, pin, plate back and everything else at the saturday night dinner, where we will recognize those who rode the ride and present them with their certs and stuff.

Pretty sweet eh? No waiting three months to get your certificate. It doesn't get any easier than this folks.

Now, you'll have to ride the ride, and prove to me beyond any doubt that you did so. I am personally verifying every ride and I will do NOTHING to comprimise the integrity of every other rider who has previously earned this honor, so above and beyond the normal receipts and stuff, we're gonna do this a little differently.

We're going "Rally Style".

You will be given a numbered rally towel along with the route instructions. You will need to bring to the ride a Polaroid camera with one pack of film. You will ride to certain locations, get a picture of your towel and bike at each point, then return to the Hilton with said documents within 24 hours. Easy, and SUPER fun.

I can speak from experience, Nevada allows pretty fast times out there in relative safety from LEO or accident. You still gotta be careful in places, but NV is a REALLY fun state to ride in.

The single down side to this affair is if you pre-pay and DON'T finish the ride. You won't get the certificate, and you won't get your money back. Rider beware.

So if this sounds good to you, do the following:

Paypal $44- to [email protected] ( $2 convenience fee )

In the Notes section, put your year of bike.

You will receive an e-mail confirmation from me.

Looking forward to handing out certs in Reno to the hard core among you.

GZ

Polaroid camera?!!? I had one of those as a kid that was about the size of a skid lid and I haven't seen film for it on the store shelves in a couple of decades! :D

Does the SS1000 have to occur on a particular day, or any day during WFO? The reason I ask is I have to be at work on Saturday, but could squeeze in the ride on Friday.

You are the man George!

Talk about dishing it up all one platter. You have a pre-made, no-wait Saddle Sore of the regular or in-state variety. You've made an optional solo or adhoc group endeavor. And the swoopy state of Nevada no less. AND IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH, you've thrown in some of the key elements of a real-full-blown rally minus some of the competitive pressure.

I encourage anybody who hasn't tried it before to give it a shot. If you've ever wondered about this Saddle Sore LD thing it doesn't get any more choice than this.

As George would say, "Word."

I'm trying to think of a reason to not do this.

I'm having a real hard time coming up with one. I guess that means "I'm in".

Have to find a poloriod camera (or two), though. Does the rally towel picture stuff mean that no other documentation (gas receipts, map markups, anything else?, etc) are needed? And can we get the route ahead of time so we can program the GPS before we leave for Reno?

One question, though. Doesn't just make sense to only pay the $7? And the rest in cash upon completion? Or am I missing how the $7 interacts with the $42 or $44?

Kick ass!

OK, not to discourage anyone from participating in this thing, but something safety related for you all to think about.

I just finished a quick little run into the mountains of San Bernardino county (nice weather at 6K feet) but my route took me through the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs area) and it was around 112 degrees. :coolsmiley: That's hot folks. July in Nevada will have some areas that will be just like this. Those of you who are coming from areas of higher humidity and are not familiar with the way the dry desert air dehydrates you need to be extra careful. You'll be shocked at how much water you need to consume in order to stay in the zone. Add to that the cocktail hour :drinks: over at the Hilton for a couple of days prior to the SS1K and things could get ugly.

Water, water, water. You'll be glad you did.

The desert is beautiful, but can reach up and spank you if you're not careful.

:dead: :aaskull:

It's a real drag I discovered IBA at this stage of my life, rather than 10-15 years ago, when I might have been able to participate. Sure sounds like a good time. ;)
Uh-hem B)

Good One, Skyway -

Hey Rad, I'm older'n you dude - and I'm just gettin into it. If I can do it, so can you. (where did I put my glasses - I need to read the label on this Geritol....)

Not meant to be a smack, more of a motivation tool. I'm sure there are others out there who may feel this is not do-able. A few practice runs to build mileage and you'll be good to go. You guys riding in from back East will be rally prepared by the time you hit Reno. B)

Sometimes a gentle smack upside the head is a great motivational tool... ;)

I'm with ya on getting the kinks out on the way there... I've got a BBG and SS2K planned for the ride home. :yahoo:

Being one of the organizers I have to be pretty honest with myself and I don't think I can do this myself. Sooooo, I'll plan on bringing my rally Polaroid and would be willing to loan it to somebody that doesn't have one....provided it they bring it back in the same condition and put a fresh film pack in it.
