Installed the new Russell saddle and put on a quick 100 miles. Filled up the tanks too!

Puuuurty saddle. Keep it away from Bust - lord knows what type of fluids would get on it if you let him near it!

Replaced the oem touring windscreen with a v-stream. awesome upgrade! Its more like repairing a factory defect than an upgrade.

I also replaced the stainless screws (from prior owner) with break aways. Are the screws on the bottom of the "W" trim supposed to be break away also?

*** I'm dead.. After replacing all of those "safety" screws the NHTSB mandated with stainless, I just know I'm gonna be ripped to shreds when the 'shield doesn't give way.

It's a redundant system really. You ever took a look at the rubber mounted nuts they mount to? They are designed to "pull away" if force is applied to 'em.

I figure the stainless at half the price are more than worth the investment. Plus, if you are ham fisted enough to bust the plastic, at least the stainless won't bust off, only spin the saftey nutz.

Again saving you $$

Added LED strip lights to the front head lights. The light strips follow the bottom portion of the head lights and up the sides. Connected them to the blinkers 'cause I got tired of people not noticing me until I was passing them and they would change lanes cutting me off. I was wanting them to be on all the time and work with the blinkers, but I was in a hurry to drink my beer while it was cold AND watch the Kings win the Stanley cup.

Unless you post photos it didn't happen!

I finished polishing my front wheel, all ready for NAFO :yahoo:

Whoa. Those do look pretty nice. But your bike is all clean (unlike mine). I have a feeling that mod wouldn't work out very well for me.

Hmmm... Interesting idea, but I'm not sure the white flashing lights are DOT legal. I think they have to be amber. And the white LEDs will also probably kind of blend into the bright headlights from the front, being so close to them.

I bought a couple of short strips (6" long) of amber colored LEDs to install on my V-strom. After it took a little nap in the mud one ride and I broke one of the eggshell thin stock turn signals, I replaced both fronts with amber truck cab marker lights, making them flush mount. That way I won't be breaking the expensive eggshells, as I have every intention of dropping that ***** in the dirt again someday.

I think it looks pretty good, and is easily seen from the side or from an angle, sort of like the FJR stock front signals, but I am concerned that you wouldn't be able to see the signal lights well enough from head on. I'm going to mount those amber LED strips either on the back of the mirrors or the back of the hand guards to help with that. Might be a better approach to use amber and have them away from the headlamps.

You could always just wire up the white ones to be always on and then you'll have some FJR "angel eyes". ;)

Today, I moved my Radar Detector from the vulnerable (to weather and theft), totally visible (to cops and miscreants looking to yoink an RD) location on a RAM power plate up on the right handlebar...

To the essentially unused glove box:

My thought here is that I really don't care about LIDAR (if they strobe me I'm toast) and that the X, K and Ka band radars will penetrate the soft plastic of the faring and glove compartment like it wasn't even there. The advantages will be water resistance of the box, invisibility of the detector, and not needing to pocket it at every gas stop for fear of losing it to some miscreant.

My old war horse, Escort Passport fits quite snugly into the FJR glove box. No real need for any special mounting, it's pretty much wedged in there. I may need to cut a piece of support foam (from a some carton packing material) to maintain the proper angle or it might shift enough to constantly press the mute switch. The pre-requisite fro this move was a "direct wire smart cord" which allows you to remotely view the power status of the RD and also mute it when needed. I located mine on the clutch reservoir like so:

It's just stuck on there with some 3M acrylic pressure sensitive, double sided tape for now. We'll see if we need a more permanent bracket to hold it down. The worst opart of the mod was running the wiring around through the faring, but that was really pretty trivial.

I'll report back on my perceived differences in sensitivity with running the RD inside he glove box (or lack of them)

Not knowing what was there before I got the v-stream, I ordered 100 of the screws for around $5.00

I followed Shakin ( now Bungie Jr) up a forest logging road that he thought was a highway on our way to NAFO. The grass strip growing up the middle of the gravel trail should have been a tip off.
