Like Wheatie - I find the Gen 3 mirrors much better than the Gen 1.BFE or not - I need working mirrors. And all of the help I can get....
Since Pants wouldn't say it, I will. "Pants is usually riding fast enough that not much in the mirror matters".

I actually like the FZ1 mirrors to keep track of others in the pack while riding in a group. This past trip, many a time I knew when to pass another Harley after everyone else was by the last one!!

Okay, I just finished washing, waxing, and light detailing the old whore. The amount of bugs, tar, and dirt from 2900 miles was pathetic.

Found some new nicks in the paint from the sand, rocks, and debris kicked up by other vehicles. Construction zones are the worst. Semis blow up all kinds of paint damagers.

I will be needing new tires very soon. The T-30 has about 13K on it and the rear PR2 has 8K. The flat spot on the rear is huge. I did everything I could to wear the bevel off of it in Wisconsin. Eau Claire to Janesville all alphabet back roads can only do so much while loaded up.

Ordered a new stator cover to replace the one busted on the road and repaired with JB-Weld Steelstik.

Rode it to work today after neglecting it for a week. I'd been using the FJ-09 a lot recently.

I'm always impressed with how buttery smooth the FJR is. What a great machine. Kudos to Yamaha for its continuous improvement plan.

I put a new rubber on . My shift lever cover was pretty worn out.

I changed the oil and filter. The old had only about 2k miles on it but I've been flogging it pretty hard on dirt roads in the NC mtns lately. You know- high revs, low speed. Downshifting was beginning to get a little stiff.

I replaced Panel A. On my '07 that's the dash panel that covers the battery. The little extended part out on the end where the threaded spring clip broke so I couldn't tighten the screw.

Plus, folks have asked in the past so I snapped a couple of pics of the Battery Tender cable I installed last yr. Below you can see how I routed it at the battery (yellow), the in-line fuse (blue), where the cable exits through the fairing and where I tuck it when not in use (red). Hope this helps!

Where did you get your "panel A"? I haven't found a cheaper Yamaha OEM reseller than Part Shark. Good service with them, too.

I did a mirror mod to mine, when I got the bike I didn't know what everyone was complaining about because I could see everything I wanted with the mirrors on the bike, But after a slight accident and having the front repainted and mirrors replaced I was pissed. The mirrors I was used to weren't original but now I had the Yamaha mirrors on the bike. I ordered some aftermarket mirrors but they stuck out way too far so now the bike just looked wrong but I was living with it. The other day I was riding with my grand kid with him on his 300 ninja when he laid it down and broke a Mirror off. I ordered a new 300 mirror for his but looked at how it might look on my bike and I loved it so I ordered a couple of more for my bike and modded them a little. Now I can see again, the bike looks great and the mirrors fold out of the way when not needed.

yah I thought someone might say that so now I have to relearn how to post pics.... bummer.... give me a day or 2

Well done!

How do you like those billet grips? I had them on my FZ1 and didn't like them because it took a lot more effort to hold the throttle.

Love the looks but the grip is marginal, I think I'll just add a tacky surface if I can but they have been on about 2 years so far when most of my grips have been wearing out every 2 years.

On another forum, someone said they added rubber tape - like tennis racket wrap, or perhaps bicycle bar tape?

Those holes are not from the mirrors, the new mirrors completely cover the old holes. The holes are left over from a set of lights that were attached to the fairing when I bought the bike..I'm going to plug them if I ever see something that I want to plug them with but they are about a 3/8 hole i think, I never botherd to measure them.
