What did you do to your FJR today?

Dave, after a few weeks your left hand will remember where the controls are. I too had trouble getting used to my 14 this spring, beeping the horn when I intended to engage the CC. Or hitting the high beams when I wanted to increase speed on CC. Don't worry, it will come..

Keep practicing, and enjoy that new ride.

Yup, and to this day I'm still finding new combinations to try. Gotta laugh at it sometimes but there is one scenario that may not be so funny. Riding along using the Cruise Control. You disengage it for whatever reason (slowed traffic, commercial strip, etc.) but do not shut it off. At some point before you re-engage the cruise your left thumb goes to push one of those switches. Should you stumble and hit the RES toggle by mistake you'll be in for a rude and scary awakening as the bike accelerates back to where you left it. Not good.

I rode the 15 to work today for the first time. Heated grips were nice to have. How do they work if you have grip puppy's on? Can someone shed some light on that for me. The stock handle bars seem to be made for women with small hands. I find myself stumbling around for all the switches on the clutch side. I guess I will eventually get used to it. The 08 seems so much simpler to ride.

I put some Honda ST1300 heated grips on my 07 and I still get plenty of heat even with Grip Puppies installed. The heat isn't as instant as running without the puppies, but I can't stand the girl sized grips without the puppies installed. As an added bonus, the grip puppies dampen the vibration some. :)

+1

OK, I will add that to the farkle list. I have them on the 08 but have to remove the grip puppies in order to add the heated grips that velcro around the stock grips.

Thanks,

Dave

I rode it 445 miles today from Palm Springs to Safford AZ. It was a low-mile day, but we didn't get started until 1pm due to that pesky job thing. Tomorrow night we should be near Ft Davis or Marfa, heading towards the Big Bend area, and then TX Hill Country and the Ozarks.

Rode it to work on this lovely fall day in NE. Then I washed it; first time since June I think. And I added some washers under the windshield bracket to tilt it back a bit. May ride it again tomorrow.

Yesterday actually for the time stamp, Rode both my 06 and the 15, dang I really like the suspension upgrades on the '06, over the 15A.

And now GP has their annual GB, I may have to see what they have for the newer Gen 3's it's only $$$$ right!

Well it wasn't today but it was yesterday I went to the local dealer to get a sticker on the 15. Turns out they are no longer a Yamaha dealer. They didn't sell enough bikes according to Yamaha. No more warranty work done there. Now I will have to go to Rehoboth MA 45 minutes away if I need servicing of the bike. This dealer has been selling Yamahas since I was 4 years old and maybe before that.

Very Sad news indeed,

Dave

While sad that your LBS isn't doing Yamahas anymore, it's not that big of a deal since you are (riding Yamahas).

When was the last time you actually needed to bring your FJR to the dealership for any service work?

I used it twice on the 08 within the first year. Hoping for better results with the 15. I am still debating whether to get YES or not since I never used it on the 08. I added the 2 inch round mirrors yesterday to improve elbow visibility on the 15. LOL

No, no... we don'y get tickets around here. That was just a Performance Award!
To be honest, I would've been perfectly happy going about my day not being awarded a certificate on my excellent riding, haha!

FWIW I wouldn't buy another FJR without purchasing the Y.E.S. There's enough that's gone wrong through the yrs, and still going wrong IMHO, that I think it's a small price to pay for the peace of mind. God knows, unfortunately we don't, what kind of keyswitch or kickstand-like glitches will be included free of charge with the '17s. I understand the '16 owners are still less than delighted to find they are included in the Super Blue models.

I used my YES twice in the first 2 yrs it was available to me.

Reminds me.. I need to hook my grips back up - overlooked when I replaced the battery but it was summer then, so...

"It's the economy, stupid."

Few feel prosperous enough to purchase new motorcycles. And why bother with a 2016 when a 2006 is so good!
