Changed coolant in the 2014ES. Living in the S.F. Bay Area I reluctantly admit I did the blow job.
Absolutely no need unless you are changing your coolant with an incompatible type.  Even then, I would flush with distilled water and then with some of the new coolant before filling.

Took the feejer on a shortish ride just to get it charged up and to operating temp.

Hadn't been started in a month due to Christmas and News Years and other general excuses.....

Dropped the bike yesterday in the driveway trying to turn around. Thank you T REX for saving my ass and a lot of $$$. Slight scratch on the gaurd is all. Nothing a permanent marker couldn't resolve. Got that out of the way for the year. What it did confirm is that I need to start working out again and get some muscle definitian back again. Sitting at a desk all day sucks. Currently living with shoulder and hip issues.

Tried to start it yesterday after a month of sitting, on charge. Didn't wanna start. Mebbe I twisted the throttle before starting. Will recheck today.

Thanks for the advice. I use the OEM Yamaha coolant. The old coolant looked like new. I feel more confident by doing this every two years as suggested by the owner's manual. FWIIW you can buy Yamaha coolant on line much cheaper than what the dealers charge.

Changed the tires about 3 week ago. Last weekend temps outside got to around 50 so I went for a ride.  And I remembered that the tires were new until I got to the first traffic light. ( about half mile away)

The light turned green. straight through.  In 500 feet turn right.(forgot about the new tires) Slowed down, setup for turn. Half way through give some gas and down I go. F**K!

Cold temps + new tires + cold tarmac = slide

Damage to bike. Scrap on  right side plastic and right bag. No cracks or broken plastics that I have found yet.

Finished up some long overdue dash shelf wiring!

Following up on "Canadian", I had the itch after work to start up the machine in storage. In fraction of a second, and it was asking me to ride.  Declined.  I will say that although some areas probably got snow, at 39 degrees in southern Maine, that crap wasn't happening, as we got 1 - 2" of hard rain to cleanse the streets.  Sorry, snowmobilers, but let's get back on two wheels.

You got rain to wash away the salt - ready for the next decent day.  We got snow and ice pellets plus a few more kilotons of salt.  Still hoping for a ride by St. Patrick's day but won't hold my breath.

Got to work and finished bleeding the brakes and used Rayzerman's ABS test harness for the first time! So easy now with the speed bleeders. Also installed Garauld's stiffy kit without a hitch and put the tail back together again.

I had the FJR out of the garage to put Carver's CBX away so I figured I would give it some time. Did fluids and then decided to mount some LED lights I had been saving for for some project. I had some old mirror mounts from another FJR and various relays and switches so other than time total investment was around 20.00. They aren't great lights but are good enough for who it's for and now they are useful instead of taking up space on the shelf. I have only put a couple hundred miles on it in two years cause we are always two up and the wing has more real estate for full size folks.

First short photo tag ride of 2020 yesterday...

Nice late winter afternoon.  Lots of sun and most of the salt has washed off the roads in southern NH from the rain lately.  Felt real good to get on two wheels again.  Before heading out I noticed the LED aux lights and pigtail power to heated gear were AWOL.  No problem, it was nearly 50F and daylight.  I’ll get to that later.

Got out in the garage this morning and pulled dash covers to find that my key switched 12V power relay had succumbed to the dreaded Green Crusties.  Probably brought on by the wash I did just before putting her away last November after the Ride to the Rock.  Ran down a local auto parts store to grab a replacement relay ($9 ouch!) and all is right again.

Bring on the good weather!

Bike, which I visited yesterday, is coming out Sunday for wrenching over to my cousins' garage.  T-Rex install and possibly the V-Strom hand guards.  In the 40s, forecast.

Hooked up the gas tank and turned on the ignition. The bike has been sitting for five months and started right up in less than 3 seconds! All the farkles I installed, including the new LED light bulbs are working as they are supposed to. Since the engine was warm I decided to do an oil change as well. Can't wait for riding season to start!

Changed out the final drive oil with Royal Purple 75W-90. Never used it before, cost a few extra $$, but what I researched ranks Royal Purple products pretty high.
I use the cheap Canadian Tire Motomaster (store brand) synthetic.  Looks the same coming out as it did going in.  Change maybe every 15,000 km or so.  Never heard of a final drive failure in any FJR that could be attributed to oil - despite Yamaha's insistence that we use only their high dollar whale jizz. The worst I have seen is a slow rear seal leak.
