What's the "Best" State to ride in?

I am going to vehemently disagree . . . well . . . disagree* with all the people who like California best.
Washington has everything California has, and as an added bonus of Washington does not include Los Angeles.

*I'm a Seattlelite. It's hard for us to get worked up about much.

Everything except Sunshine, and too wet and cold in the Winter, but just my opinion.

I agree, SoCal! Too chilly in the winter, too wet, no desert, not enough sunshine! I think the bast areas are Folsom and San Diego, depending if you prefer mountains or ocean areas. Others can disagree...

I tend to agree with Iggy if only because of the quality vs. quantity factor. i.e. lots of great roads with lots of great scenery with little to no traffic. Don't get me wrong, Kali is great, but it's like saying you like the entire West the best.

BTW Beemerdons, mejico no count okay.

Sounds like we have agreement that Kalifornia is the "best." How about instead of which state, we specify a specific region/area. For example, SE Ohio bordering West Virginia is pretty great riding if you like twisties. Sierra Nevadas from Placerville to Lake Tahoe in Cali has nice sweeping curves up and down the mountains.

Northern CA is pretty tough to beat, especially west of I5 from Yreka down to Red Bluff extending all the way to the coast, Oroville north through Lassen, and foothills east of Calistoga.

Southern CA east of San Diego, Julian, Pines to Palms and Box Canyon, Ortega Hwy, Angeles Crest, Hwy 33, and any part of Mulholland and surrounding canyons. Makes getting through LA worth it.

NE and Eastern Oregon, near Fossil and Maupin.

Washington has the most diverse and naturally beautiful roads and scenery, but the weather west of the Cascades....sigh.

A common misconception. With lane-sharing and HOV lanes, we get along just fine on our FJRs. (And I agree with Hudson's comment: if you want to see someone RIDE Los Angeles, follow Fairlaner -- if you can...)

I'm not suggesting that anyone would want to ride in LA, I'm just saying that LA's evil, hate-filled taint disqualifies the state as a place.

Of course, my wife was born in LA, so if she ever reads this thread, I'm doomed.

Deal! One of my bucket list rides is to take a month or so, head out to Colorado and do a big loop through NM,AZ,CA,OR,WA,ID,WY and UT. Might have to get a couple more into college before that one though.

Good advice... no time like the present. Trips like that can be done on the cheap and with folks offering up their hospitality, you'd be nuts not to accept. You won't regret it. Those memories will last a lifetime!

It's not like I'm made of money, but cost is not really an obstacle. Time away family and work is a much bigger challenge for any trips I want to make. I don't want to miss any of my kids activities while they're young. Can't get that time back. Once they move off to college, or further, I hope to have more opportunities for travel. No way I could take a month for myself at this point.
