They're calling for 3 - 5 inches of snow overnight.

On the plus side coming back from a delivery today saw half dozen flocks of geese, 100 - 150 birds. Maybe we'll have a Spring after all

I'm so sick of our temps here being -5 to 20º the past couple weeks, I'm on my way down to FLatistan this week to spend a week playing and diving in their 65-85º temps.

February has sucked in the Northeast despite early predictions to the contrary. We had 3 days out of 28 where the daytime high slightly exceeded the average for a particular date and no days were above freezing. No melting at all and the accumulating snow has yielded snowbanks over 6' in many places. Every nighttime low has been below average; by more than 10 °F in most cases.

Long range for March (if you can believe it) shows below average for the first week and then roughly average or slightly below for the remainder of the month. I guess its easy to predict average temperatures when you have absolutely no clue what's really going to happen. My target date for first ride of the season is usually no later than St. Patrick's Day but unless the prognosticators are wrong (in a good way), it is unlikely to happen this year.

I wish I worked in a field where you could be wrong more than 50% of the time and still get paid! Not sure why Accuweather even bothers with daily forecasts that go out 45 days. I have a dartboard that does better.

Freezing rain last night. Not a lot but enough to start weighing down trees limbs and power lines. Forecast is for 37 today and 34 tonight so prolly not much happening other than some wet. OTOH forecast says 67 on Wed. Sixty-freakin-seven!! Hoe Lee Crap!! "We're havin' a heat wave....."

Holy cow, spring is here! We are predicted to get only a half foot of snow tonight. Tuesday evening and Wednesday will be freezing rain instead of snow and one day next week is predicted to get all the way up to 40º. Off to check the battery tender on my FJR. Some day I hope to have my snow blower in the back of the garage and my motorcycle up front by the door.

You guys can keep that snow out east as I'm looking for a quick warm up and an early spring riding season. Our fields are black, the ditches are empty and we have nearly zero snow in ND. I feel for the guys with new $14,000 sleds that have to haul them hundreds of miles to ride them. I have the same gas in the snow blower that I started the winter with like 10 months ago.

It's nearly 30 degrees this morning. Time to break out the sun tan lotion!

I know that spring must be right around the corner because I'm heading out to move the last pallet load (1.5 tons) of wood pellets into the garage this morning. My driveway will (finally) no longer look like the loading dock at Home Despot. I'm also hoping that some of those pellets get the opportunity to sit there in the garage for the summer, and give me a financial head start into next year's heating season, but that may be too much to ask.

In the "making lemonaid" department, TMJ and I took a ride (in the truck, not bike!!

) up to Lake Chocoua in Tamworth for the annual Dog Sled races. It was a gloriously crisp, clear, sunny day with plenty of snow pack on the lake for the sleds. The race had been deferred from early January when the ice was still bare. We had never been to these races before, and I must say that it was quite a scene. (stock photo from a few years ago)

Sharp eyed observers may notice that the mountain in the back drop (Mount Chocorua) is the same one I have used on my avatar for many years.

April Fool's Day jokes for New England and the Maritimes will probably revolve around "Spring is here!"

Six days since we had a weather posting; wonder if that means that spring will eventually make it to the northeast? Not here! Actual temperature this morning was -18 °F. Enough already! One day in the last six weeks has made it to the freezing mark (barely).

On the (slightly) brighter side, the forecast includes a day or two next week making it in the mid-30's and two days the following week into the mid-40's. Time for sandals, sunscreen and beer on the deck; going to be too hot to ride!

58f and light rain showers here in Ormond Beach. Few Pirates out and about, one Hondapotamus rider in in search of a new and taller windshield. No luck.

Good LORD!

I don't know how y'all handle it.

Maker's Mark?

You dress for it and curtail some outdoor activities. Once you are acclimatized, its not too bad but you get a little stir-crazy when it becomes unrelenting. I am way past ready for winter to be over - this is the second really bad year in a row for us. (The Maker's Mark or other alcoholic desensitizer helps you forget about it but doesn't do a thing to warm you up!)

Snow flurry early this morning for 15 minutes. Well, you had to look really hard but it was flurrying. I'M SO SICK OF WINTER !!!!!!!

Riding Saturday with rpm through south Georgia for BMR points, and Sunday I'm escorting MrZappo and his friend through Atlanta as they head for Daytona Bike Week. Forecast = zero clouds, highs of 60 to 65F. All y'all have my sympathy.

No flurries here but dammit, I had ice on my wind shield! I'M SO SICK OF WINTER !!!!!!!

Actually, we had 1 day of spring- 70*F, birds singing, frogs chirping. That ended quickly with still more rain and cold but at least the snow melted off so maybe the swamp out back in my yard will begin to dry out. No shi*t, it's been so wet for so long I have green slime algae growing in some mudholes. Luckily we're still dodging the freezing rain/ice bullet this yr so no major complaints.

So, like, in June, when me and a buddy are passing thru to get to Mobile, do we, like, you know, get an "escort" too? How about lunch instead? We're kinda old so we don't do ti**y bars much any more but we sure dig a good sammich....

Now why would anybody in their right mind want to go to Mobile in June? Stagecoach is in December.

On the other hand, I'll be cruising around your neck of the woods in April (Catawba College, High Point, Altamahaw, Durham Bulls, Samarkand) so maybe you can provide me with local biker gang protection in exchange for some Bojangle's and a biscuit.

And to keep this post on-topic, I expect your weather to be 70-75F with bright sunshine.

Glad you kept it on topic...I thought your post was going to go off the rails there for a minute and start talking about motorcycle meetups...way to give the hard correction to steer it out of the ditches.
