In a couple of weeks the 06's are SUPPOSED to be coming in, so I thought it would be interesting to see how many "waiters" would report on when their bikes are delivered. This Poll will be for 1300 AE's and I will make another one for the A models. (Thanks Kaitsdad)

I realize some people could lie :( so I will take responses with a grain of salt unless it is backed up with a picture to go along with it. :D

Just thought it would be nice to see them all coming in, like we have been told they will.... <_<

I have made the dates longer to anticipate possible early deliveries for the AE... :)

Still waiting of course (although I will edit this whenever I get my AE. I was number 8 or 10 ordering at D&H. Who knows, I may be a month or more behind the initial deliveries of bikes.

Would be great for you folks to tell us your VIN, perhaps just the last 4 numbers (although we probably know the rest...). Interesting to find out what production number ends up where and when.

I ordered my AE on 28 September 05 and I was the first to order either model at Yamhaha of Cucamonga, CA. For my 05 non-ABS, it was delivered on 14 July 2004. I have yet to know of an 05 delivered in the USA earlier than that. Anyone know of an earlier date.

Of course delivery date is helped by living only 40 miles from Yamaha HQs in Cypress CA.

I believe the earliest you will see is May Mine should be here in June.

A suggestion for AE riders. Put some time in on a cvt bike. You can put the AE into neutral when you stop which I recommend whole heartedly with this particular FJR. However if you leave the bike in first when you stop and forget it is in gear -- well, one twist of the throttle and the bike is off like a rocket very unexpectedly if you are not used to riding an autoclutch bike. You can train yourself with a cvt bike to expect that.

I just talked to Patrick, product specialist at Yamaha Corporate (had problem with dealer). My AE with order # 196434 is expected to arrive at local Wisconsin dealer sometime in June. I can just see this turning into a late summer delivery (or later).

I wonder if they will ever produce them. Not sure the acceptance level is what they expected. Certainly looking at the level of interest shown by our forum members the bike will never make it sales wise.

What worries me is the limited orders may mean this is a one time shot. They produce a few to fill the quota and you never see it again. May be tough to get parts/serviced (for those specific parts) in the following years. I am almost rethinking my decision to buy one. I suppose somebody has to take the plunge, might as well be the newbie.

I understand your concerns. Seems logical if you look at Yamaha's previous track record with slow sellers. I reiterate my theory that they will never produce this model!

OK OK I am wrong see my next post!!!

Had a long chat with the FJR tech trainer at the yamaha display at daytona. They really have done their home work on the heat issue with the 06. Claimed a huge percentage drop in heat transfer to the rider. There is a plate above the engine that runs cool air under the raised tank and vents out below the bike. The new radiator is bigger, as we know, with a guard. The airflow from that is routed down and out under the bike or out through the fairing vents. The fairing adjustment has to do with the airflow across the riders legs and has nothing to do with the cooling of the engine. The Zeus fasteners can be released with a cent and the fairing set in or out. Out for less flow across legs etc. The upper vent under the screen is to reduce the back pressure on the rider and is always open.

On the AE the gear change is always set to the foot lever. If you want the hand flicker you have to press the button next to it. You can still change gear with the foot lever.

The gear selector drum is different then the manual with neutral being the first detent. Now here come the part that is totally different. There are a bunch of checks and cross checks between the cpu and the ecu including the ABS sensor that will allow a gear change to be made or not. If the system does not like the parameters it sees nothing will happen.

A couple of situations. Pin the throtttle and select first. The revs will hit the limiter but the gearbox will not allow a gear selection until the revs drop to 1800 then it will allow the clutch to engage in whatever gear you have selected. If it is 5th then the clutch will slip until the bike moves. This is really bad for clutch life. However you selected 5th so!

If you selected first and you are moving with wot hang on. Keep the throttle pinned and hit second and then gear will change but not as crisply as first thought. On a manual bike the change with a fanned clutch or no clutch will be more instant.

On the AE there will be a slight increase in revs as the clutch is let out by the computer.

However that seems to be avoidable by allowing the engine to hit the limiter and then hitting the switch! Just a thought heh heh.

The linked ABS seems to be the best of both worlds being quite intelligent. From what I remember the rear comes on then the front if you hit the rear lever. If you hit the front brake lever as well then the rear works more on the rear brake.

The front brake is not linked if you use the handlebar lever only.

All in all a neat machine for making mega miles.

Oh yea they sold out both model runs.

What else? The seat is set up for 2 riders. Not much room to move back if you are one up. The adjustment up and down is made by moving a rack under the seat forward and back. Very simple. The rear pegs are in a better position.

The rest has been outlined elsewhere.

PS I saw the dude do the back flip when he won the heat race in supercross. The racing was pretty good also. Miguel picked up his bike and raced just as hard. What a guy!

Cagey Matt and way to go Zemke!

And watch out for Nikko Rosberg in F1. World Champ rookie???????

"Or, if a limited # is produced it could be worth a lot more in a few years."

So now I have to wait till June or later for my AE and not even ride it because it will be a collectable?

Hello

I am a new member in Colorado waiting for July 06 delivery of AE. Missed the preorder and found an available AE at a dealership...assume ordered under a salesman's name. :D

AJ

I think they'll make the AE for at least two years, even if it flops. I'm guessing all FJR's will get a stronger alternator next year. I'm thinking of walking away from my order and keeping my '05 another year and then ordering an '07 AE if the '06 AE gets good reports.

Stopped by the dealer today to pick up a new faceshield for my helmet. Asked about the AE, I have an A on order. He said he had two available, He has 6 A's on order and all 6 will be delivered in April, the two AE's will be delivered two months later in June.

Thinking about jumping over to the AE I like technology and I like the idea of not holding the clutch lever in during stop-n-go traffic or while sitting at a red light. My only concern is slow speed parking lot manuvers where I feather the clutch and brake.

Diesel,

Rumour has it those slow maneuvers are the AE's forte.

Saw a post somewhere where some Yam Rep got his hands on an AE and put it through it's paces because he was not a believer. He liked it and wants one for himself now. Said that the system really works well at slow speed stuff and is still capable of spinning the wheel if you grab a handfull taking off.

If anyone can get this "E" thing right -to me, it's Yamaha. They had the best carbs out there before forced to abandon them; then though they were slow into EFI, they got it pretty good compared to others that got in big early.

Rossi's M1 has a the throttle connected to two bodies directly by cable -the computer does the other two using some mind-reading tricks. The system gives him direct control to tell the bike what his intentions are and to move the bike in that direction -the computer then adds as much as possible to that intent without allowing the negatives. R6's fly-by-wire system got some amazing reviews.

I think the AE may surprise a lot of people and may change some minds once people get their hands on it and get used to it. Though I also believe getting used to it enough that the bike can be honestly assessed will require more time than most will give it.

The AE may or may not be a success -but if it isn't, it may not be because of how the bike works. If it works well and can not win acceptance for being different and gets discontinued... You guys will have something special. However, Apple still sells Macs despite the PC.

I agree with FJRulzON....the technology is there. Yamaha is definetly capable of getting this right. It will all depend on whether it will catch on or not.

Not all FJR owners want to wheelie & pull holeshots!

O.K..... some FJR owners don't want to....

I mean.....come on.....there has to be at least one out there that dosen't want to......?

Right ???? :lmao:
