After reading how the AE shift system works, one thing I have not found out is, do you roll off the throttle to intiate a shift or do you keep the throttle steady? If you do not roll off the throttle I can see where the two-up riding experience would be more enjoyable. Does anyone know?

Pin the throttle and hit the shift. The computer lets out the clutch a little slower than fanning the lever on a manual bike and makes the change with some small amount of slippage as it bites. No need to back off but it does work the clutch pretty well and speeds up wear, so best to back off a touch if that worries you!

Computer matches engine and wheel speed on down shift. If it cannot see that is possible it will not shift to protect you from yourself. IE shifting to first at 140 will not be allowed!

Triple appreciate the reply, but not sure I made myself clear. Under normal driving conditions, not talking about pinning the throttle. Riding a bike equiped with a clutch when you initiate a shift, you roll off the throttle, squeeze the clutch lever, move the foot shift lever. On the AE bike is the slight throttle roll off recommended if throttle roll off is recommended I am not sure of the advantage over the A bike.

Also triple I am envious of your bike collection.

Tripletango,

FJR1300, Breva 750, Speed Triple, Burgman 650 ??

Are these bike you have had in the past or bikes you currently own? The Breva is restricted down to 49-hp due to Euro motorcycle licensing laws while the Burgman scotter is, I think, 55-hp. How often do you ride the Breva (vs. the Speed Triple vs. the Burgman scooter)... actually, what bikes are your favororites? Which do you use dailly? Which do you ride least?

Yea all the bikes are current. They all do things a little differently. They are all fun in their own way. The speed triple is fast and agile. The MG V11 is a big thumping V twin that is different. All carbon and Ohlins

The Breva is a sweet bike plenty of torque will run all day way above legal limits. If I had to own one bike this is the one.

For hi speed travel effortlessly you can't beat the FJR!

Off to big bend on it soon. Looking forward to stretching her legs out there in W TX.

The scoot is perfect for local runs and blowing off Harleys! Day to day I probably put more time on it.

Looking forward to the AE!!!!

You can also check www.fjr1300.info and click the "Orders/Deliveries" link to see who got what when. If you haven't registered your PDP, there's a link to e-mail your info (name, PDP number, date submitted, etc.) to add to the list. That's where I've been checking deliveries.

It's a volunteer info submittal, so you may have to take some of the dates with a grain of salt, but it should give you an idea of when you paid PDP compared to others, and when others take delivery.

Happy riding (can't wait till my AE arrives... been a long wait) :haha:

Triple....Google " 2006 Yamaha FJR1300AE" will get you to the AE home page. Click "Features" then under "Key Features" click the depiction of a hand with a plus and minus sign will get you to the YYCS Electric Shift System Page. I would show a link but I am an IT klutz. I got all my learnin before the computer age came along.

John

Did you find the info on the AE (YCCC)?

If not try:

MainYamiWebsite

Click: Sport

Click: Street Motorcycle, hit the SuperSport Touring dropdown, then the FJR1300AE dropdown.

Click the "Features" Tab, and the first link is the exclusive electric-shift five-speed transmission

or try:DirectLink

If you can't find it -- lemme know, and I'll post it, or e-mail it to ya.

Happy readin'.

Checked with my dealer today (Ward's Yamaha in Troy, AL), I'm still showing June delivery! Great folks there, can't wait (actually, I guess I have to)

Rick

You, me and probably a few others are patiently waiting, NOT! Ok, I'm dying over here. I called Yamaha Cypress last week just to try and get a little heads up. The lady was real nice. Said she had heard that morning there was a few A's that were 2 weeks behind schedule this month but as far as the AE's, if our dealer says June, it should be arriving on schedule. That's all I know, so in the mean time, I am learning valuable info from this forum and starting some upfront farkling. I believe I read one thread that mentioned it could be a couple of weeks sooner. Good luck with yours and hope it's not too long a wait.

gitterdan -- me too! it'll prolly come when im gone on Vacation!

tripletango -- cool video! I have more detailed info on how it works if 'ya want it....

Like -- the handle controls turn off each time you cycle main power, you have to re-enable the handlebar shift every time you start-up (I smell farkle!)

You can't shift from Neutral to 1st with engine RPM over 1300.

Recommended closing the throttle for each shift.

ECU won't allow up or down shifts if the conditions aren't 'right' for it.

Gitterdan, They're just jerking your chain. Rumors say it's coming in earlier. Rumors say it's been delayed. All designed to mess with your mind.

I've seen this happen every year!

KOB - They can mess w/ it all they want but it doesn't change the fact that I am waiting ever so patiently. (Heavy sigh!) :boredom:
