Which is scarier, GenI or GenII unique issues?

I'd vote for him. All he needs to do is get her to do all his speeches... Dressed just like that, of course.
So Fred, do you want those speeches with an Arkansas Goober accent or a Boston Southie accent? Your call, of course!
Doesn't really matter since I won't actually be listening.

But to be honest (as I always am) I think both of those accents are kind of crude and vulgar.

I'd prefer it was a Bahamian accent and we were on the beach and she was rubbing coconut oil on me, and then... :dribble:

Nuthin scares me...

This is a ******* thread....

Here's a purty girl....

Lets see.... My highly scientific and very expensive thread was again derailed by malcontents and the like. So let me try to save this before it gets shut down for political reasons.

I smell a rat. I counted (fairly well) 22 different people posted to this thread. I got 6 scary Gen1's form their posts and 8 scary Gen2's, yet there are 23 votes against Gen1 and 16 for Gen2's soooo.... I say it's been rigged by jealous types. ;)

Back to what you were doin'. :D

On the serious side, lots of good input, I put this out there because there have been quite a few scary spider issues etc. I know of many that have been on trips etc that were stranded due to the spider issue. Just sayin'.

They are both excellent bikes as I stated in the OP, just askin' what would sway you away from a Gen.

BTW - HUGE Props to Rushes, you da MAN! Now this thread is far more appealing. :yahoo:

Every bike has problems to some level, I have never experienced the spider problem and don't see it as an issue to worry about. I have modified my bike to suit my personal requirements. I do my own maintenance thoroughly, which is far more important to reliability.

Andy

They are connection points around the bike, for earth grounding. Small black connectors with multiple wires connected together on the terminal. Some owners have experienced poor connections at one or more of these points, creating weird symptoms of various types. Do a search at the hysteria about ground spider problems

Now, its spiders...ooooooooooooooooooh. I'm so scared. My bike might die while riding down the road at 80mph and it'll suddenly stop and I'll get killed. Exactly...If I'm too Goddammed stupid to pull in the clutch and get the Hell out of the road. Ooooh, but it might happen in a corner. ****, then the bike will continue rolling through the corner without acceleration...Then I wonder what I'll do. Oh, I know. I'll pull in the clutch and coast to the side of the road. All without dying. Kind of like the Prius death acceleration recall. Good God.
I've got to agree with you with a qualifier. Those of us that are experienced riders shouldn't have a problem with the scenarios you presented, but a less experienced rider might not fare so well. My wife is just learning to ride and a spider bite would be a problem for her.

But the scenario that scares me the most is a situation where I'm waiting to pull onto the local 50mph highway. Knowing that my FJR can accelerate like a scalded cat, I often pull out and nail the throttle to blend in with traffic. Now imagine the engine dying just as I pull out in front of a semi doing 50mph. :dribble:

I know, I know...The spiders are genuine issues and real people are having them all the time. Thing is, I had my tank up the other day and inspected my spiders. Know what I found? Clean connections everywhere. I donno, but I wonder why some people have all the problems and some don't.
I've wondered that also because there doesn't seem to be any reason why some get bit and not others. I ride all year and we get a LOT of days of rain. In my case, I'm sure all that dirty water seeping into the spiders contributed to my spider bite.

I also would like to see how many people with spider problems have tons of extra, mostly unnecessary **** wired into their electrical systems. I also wonder how many of the people that do have all that stuff wired into their systems actually knew what they were doing when they wired them. I'm thinking spider issues may be self induced by adding tons of extra lights, heated gear, communication systems, GPS systems and whatever else can be tax the system.
I have lots of add on stuff, but it's all wired straight off the battery through a power strip. So my wiring doesn't in any way increase the current flow through the spiders (not counting the negligable effect of the relay that draws off the taillight wiring). And I think I qualify as competent in wiring because I'm an aircraft mechanic that specializes in aircraft electrical/electronic systems. ;)

But sorry for being serious. I know that's not what this thread is about. :p

The absolutely scariest thing is reading some of the Gen2 riders comments about this horrible thread, nothing on the Gen2 seems to be an issue. Why so defensive?

The Gen2ites have thrown the Gen1 over a cliff on the scary poll and then some Gen2ites that have at least commented think the thread is unwarranted. Interesting to say the least.

Carry on. ;)

Thanks to my Gen1 Brother, Beemerdons, for bumping the best part of this thread. :D

I threw BOTH of those dumb-*** ******* outta my life years ago. All they did was smoke crack and ride Gentooz. They were worthless.

Also, the premise of this thread is flawed, based on the choices Bluesie put up:

GenI unique Issues:

CCT

Ticker

Heat

GenII unique Issues:

Ignition recall

Ground Spider

The CCT is STILL an issue on GenII bikes. It is NOT a zero-return design and will seriously **** up your day sometime in the future. AND, the re-design of the CCT, presumably on newer models, didn't start showing up at parts counters 'til mid-2010, if memory serves, which leaves 06, 07, 08 and 09 models with the same weak-assed CCTs in 'em that GenIs came with.

Heat -- GenII bikes are just as hot as GenI bikes, which are NOT as hot as reported to be. The guys who pissed and moaned about how hot their GenI bikes were are just ******* who shouldn't be riding motorcycles.

Ignition recall should NOT be listed as an issue, since it was a recall...i.e., Yamaha recognized a problem and fixed it. Problem solved. Just like the Altitude recall, or Instant Mileage recall. If it's been recalled, then it's not an issue.

Now the Ground Spider...THAT ****** IS an issue. Period. At least until MamaYama steps up and takes one for the team. Then it will only be an issue for riders waiting 6 months for back-ordered replacement harnesses.

Finally, if ANY of the above mentioned items "scare" you, you're a *****. :angry2:

Yo RadioHowie, I'll respond to your post #55 tomorrow; I'm still intently staring at rushes pic of the brunette in the shower and doubling down on my heart meds, looking for that box of Kleenex also!

I voted Gen 1 because I own a Gen 2. If the truth be known neither is all that scary. Go to any vehicle forum, motorcycle, car, or truck, and you'll find that the forum membership has found some serious design flaw with said vehicle that if not fixed immediately, a very important part of your anatomy is going to fall off and you'll die a painful lingering death.

The dealer did a recall on my '07 for the spider problem.
No one seemed to notice this but I'll ask......HUH?!

A recall? Really ????
Forgive the ignorance of a noob. The recall was for the ignition. Nothing has been done to the ground wires.
Well that does it. You're destined to die a fiery death on your cursed machine...Or maybe not.
