Wyoming has a statute that reads:
"Speeding violations of up to eighty (80) miles per hour where the posted speed limit is at least sixty-five (65) miles per hour, or less than six (6) miles per hour over the posted speed limit in all other instances and zones, except violations for exceeding the speed limit in a school zone, or construction zone, and violations received while operating a commercial motor vehicle as defined by W.S. 31-7-102(a)(viii), shall not be made a part of the abstracts or records kept by the department of transportation pursuant to W.S. 31-5-1214 or 31-7-120."

In other words, if you're doing 80 or less in a 65 (and almost all of their 2-lane highways are 65), you pay a fine but it is NOT considered a moving violation and your insurance will NOT find out about it and it won't count as points on your record. I've unfortunately tested it out and it works. So if you ever get stopped in Wyoming, be VERY nice to the cop if you were over 80, admit you were speeding, and see if he'll write you for 80 or less. You then send in your money and you're done.
I was about 10 miles into Wyoming on the way to NAFO 2012 and got pulled over. I didn't see him until he was right on my ass and heard a siren. He said he clocked me going between 78 and 87 in a 65 zone. At first he was a little indignant, because he said he was following with lights on for quite a while. Well, you all know how bad stock mirrors are. Combine that with the fact that I was rubber necking in new country and wasn't looking at my mirros at all and that is what you get. There was NO other traffic. After talking to him for a little bit he did admit that he saw my head going back and forth looking around. He said that other officers might write me up for failure to yield or something. He did give me a ticket though. For 87 in a 65. I can say it was cheap compared to other tickets, though. $107. I asked if he knew whether Wyoming had resoprocity with Virginia and he quickly responded yes. I never did check, but he probably would have said yes anyway just to get me to pay my fine!

Some of my best riding buddies are OHP... I won't argue about the "crazy" part tho.
Why any sane person chooses to live there is beyond me.

Oklahoma is best visited at warp speed, just passing through.
I've been there a few times and I don't get it either - Mother Nature always seems to have it in for those folks. One of my friends is OHP : https://ohpbusa.blogspot.com/ and another works for Dell - he's quite comfortable - lived there all his life too. I guess you get used to it. You have to go warp speed to keep the wind from blowing you over!

And Hallett gets extra points toward Oklahoma not sucking so much.....

got lucky today,I saw the fuzz ahead through some bushes and hit the brakes(running 65-70 in a 55) before I hit his radarwave.he flashed his lights at me but didn't pull out

The fines for speeding in North Dakota are pretty fair and most of my stops have been warnings. My last ticket was 66 in a 55 for $11.00. Believe it or not I don't think speeding is a problem here as people rarely run over 10 over and police rarely bat an eye at you for less than 10 MPH over.

For 55 MPH highways

Miles per hour over lawful speed limit fee

1 - 5 $ 5

6 - 10 $ 5 plus $1/each mph over 5 mph over limit

11 - 15 $ 10 plus $1/each mph over 10 mph over limit

16 - 20 $ 15 plus $2/each mph over 15 mph over limit

21 - 25 $ 25 plus $3/each mph over 20 mph over limit

26 - 35 $ 40 plus $3/each mph over 25 mph over limit

36 - 45 $ 70 plus $3/each mph over 35 mph over limit

46 + $100 plus $5/each mph over 45 mph over limit

For highways over 55 MPH

Miles per hour over lawful speed limit fee

1 - 10 $2/each mph over limit

11 + $20 plus $5/each mph over 10 mph over limit

Fines are reasonable but who the hell wants to ride through ND?

I rode across ND twice last summer. There actually are some good roads in the southwest. I94 in 95 degree temps does suck.

Is it warm enough for people to get out and ride yet instead of telling war stories?

Pretty cheap compared to The Peoples Republik of Kalifornia.

A speeding ticket here is hundreds of dollars, (could be $400 or $500) plus you have to pay for the option to go to traffic school, and then pay for the traffic school itself!

Those fines are hilarious. Do they expect that to be a deterrent from speeding? Hell, I pay more than that at most garages for parking in Boston.

I suppose it's the insurance rates getting jacked that keeps people from collecting performance awards in ND...

No...-13 here....

and it's nice and warm in my truck but I still got zapped 3 times last nite...one fish cop and two townies.

thank God [Escort] for my RD...

Haven't been there for a while but AZ was bad for speeding tickets. They needed the revenue and would switch on the lights at just 3mph over, and hiding camera vans on the interstate just over slight hills. You had to behave for sure. The only two speeding tickets in the last 6 years was AZ.

You should be able to prepay a ticket and then run any damn speed you deem prudent.

For instance, crossing either of the Dakota's, I'd be happy to spend, say, $100, to be able to dial it up to a 100mph, legally.

Oklahoma State Troopers. Crazy bastards, all of them.I heard they only hire former military, dishonorably discharged....

Again! Avoid Oklahoma at all cost.

Jus said and enough sayin....
OK staties always used to be light years better than various local and county LEOs. has that changed?

The couple I've met were all business. Very unfriendly. There was no chatting about it like I'm used to.

The chief of police in Marshall, AR is just as bad. Add him to the list too...

Everywhere I've been there are decent cops and dicks. Virginia- 2 let me go, 1 ticket years ago. Still unpaid, 1981 I think. North Carolina- 1 ticket in town, another one let us go even after following us for 3 miles with lights and siren blaring. South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Maryland- all were "I understand how it is, just slow it down a little" kind of guys. No troubles north of that but I try to behave when that far away.
