That link is to the XT660... this is a Euro bike I think, a guy imported.. It was talked about over on the ADV site.. Yamaha is not bringing this over as far as I know. You can import one for a small fortune though!

Hey, I have a small fortune.

I'm in.

AWESOME ! Well, there are several sites that walk you though it.... Get a broker to do the deal.... With all your cash it should be about as hard as a few phone calls and writing a check ! :assassin:

If ya get one heading this way, let us know and fill us in!!!

On that note, have you yet read some of the reports out of Europe that go into the comparison of the 660 VS the 1200... The report goes into some great detail about both bikes in all type of riding situations and conditions... They said that the 1200 S10 was better in every situation but super skinny, single track that you needed to cross trees and boulders on the single track... Other than that, the 1200 was much better..... It was cool !

FJR, R1, R5, FZ6R test rides only :angry2: Tenere is diplay only ;)

In TX ? I was told they would be there to ride ? Not questioning your source, but where did you 'read' they are not going to be there to ride..... If not, that kinda sux, I was looking forward <_<
Info from the bike show site. I wanted to see if the Tenere was coming to San Mateo show last night and saw this......

Yep, saw it at Daytona Biketoberfest, which was the Europeon version. Rep said only 2 over here and they have over 400 deposits(sold) already. No demos. Everyone seemed really fired up about it, including two GS riders when I was there. I have a 32" inseam and could flat foot it easily. Big long sliders build in. Wheel spoke design is really different for tubeless, going from a center rim ring out to the hub both ways. The front wheel has two rim rings. $13,900 plus bags. Neat bike, but for the riding I do, will keep the FJR and add a much lighter 650-800.

Be interesting to start getting some real world perspective on this bike. I've been down the big "dual sport" road and here to tell ya, if you are a former trail bomber or MX'er then the GS/A isn't going to cut it off road. 550 lbs wet is a lot of machine to manhandle in the lose sand and single track. Seen it done. Am just wondering if the Tenre' is going to have better manners off road. The KTM 690R in my new weapon for on/off pavement excursions. Miss the big bike for the long hauls across the desert.

I put my deposit down yesterday on the Impact Blue version. I went to Sportscenter in Longview TX (It worked out as I was in Dallas on business, and had an off day yesterday). My order was number 16 for them, and I would up with order number 160840, so I don't think the order numbers are just for the Super Tenere...
Congratulations !!!! Ive read a report on a Rd called the Bloody Basin... is this out by you... Im going to go out and ride this Rd 100% Cant wait ! :yahoo:
https://www.americansouthwest.net/arizona/agua_fria/national_monument.html No One: Bloody Basin Road is very scenic, but not really tough; I've ridden it on my H-D FXD! Plenty of Arizona dual sporting!

Thanks for answering that one Don, I have been home so little since moving to Phoenix, I have no idea about most of the roads in the area! I'm thinking I may try for Alaska once I get the Super Ten home and farkled...

https://www.azbeemers.org/forum/index.php?board=22.0 AVGeek: You might want to consider joining AZ Beemers and going on our GS dual sport rides with us. Our By-Laws do NOT require owning a BMW, just an interest in BMW; most motorcyclists like all brands of bikes, so you would certainly qualify. We have at least one, sometimes two, off road rides each and every weekend. Also, look under Upcoming Rides on our AZ Beemers Forum; most of the dual sport rides are posted there: https://www.azbeemers.org/forum/index.php?board=2.0

Well, I won't be doing a whole lot of off roading with the XT1200Z, but I recommend you read (takes a day or two  ) the threads on ADVrider. The Europeans, South Africans and Aussies all seem to feel it is more than capable offroad especially with leaving the ABS on (which is usually a big no no). One guy said the XT660 actually was harder to handle than the 1200 off road unless climbing logs and boulders where you need the larger suspension travel. So it seems to be kind of what you want to use it for type of bike and maybe more off road capable than many would expect for a pretty heavy bike. The weight is said to be very low so none of the top heavy feel of some bikes. So maybe instead of a 90/10, 80/20 (road/offroad) it may be more 60/40 or 70/30. I have no idea myself but just from reading all the threads by owners and riders of it.

It is 'very interesting' -- i guess we'll see...

Personally, I've only seen "Giant Trailies" touring on the paved highway (often, Inter-State super-slabs). Although, I don't doubt some have taken them to some 'bad places' -- alot depends on the rider...!

I've found that mid-size to a little larger (250cc ~ 650cc, depending on rider) single cylinder dual-sports can, pretty much, do it all -- if that's what you're after?

"Giant Trailies" are something else -- now that Yamaha's so heavily involved it's even more interesting... :)

I think a couple of the popular aspects of these big "trailies" are that they are really comfortable to ride. The peg to seat distance is awesome due to the tall stance. A better wind screen is a given. They aren't so fragile with all the body work to contend with. They look cool and rugged, offer the multi-use option at least. I haven't ridden a bigger dual sport than a KLR650 that I used to own. I know that some spots on the trail my WR450 feels heavy when laying on it's side. I would seriously consider one as my next bike, but very little dirt riding would it see. I am glad Yamaha is in the hunt.

Sehr gut, Herr Chris; Wunderbar! An outstanding job of translation! A real quick remedial: Taglich=Everyday and Glucklichen=Happy. But, all in all, a correct rendering.

As you have correctly noted above, Hans und Dieter, der Bayerische Motoren Werke AG Motorraden Enforcers (former Waffen SS for Hans und Stasi Polizei for Dieter) in Berlin, DE do conduct ongoing surveillance on my keyboard activities on a 24/7 basis. It is just one of the small requirements of BMW Ridership, along with taking the Blood Oath and having a Bleu und Weiss Roundel tattoo stenciled on your posterior. But, Hans und Dieter were very impressed by your translation! And, they were even more impressed when I told them that you were ein Kraftfahrzeuge Trunkenpolz Mattighofen Motorrad rider; since the Austrians are their first cousins. They see a bright future for you as a BMW Owner. To prove that even Germans such as Hans und Dieter have a sense of humor, they told me a little joke to pass on to you: "Do you know the definition of a good Austrian? Nein? An Austrian is a PERFECT German!" Jawohl Arnie, es geht mir gut! That Hans und Dieter are a pair of wild and crazy guys! Auf Wiedersehen, Schatzie.

Now that's what I'm talking about!

And Chris, I already have German roots, and have visited a BMW dealership (was starting to kick tires on one of the smaller GS bikes). Although Yamaha has really earned my brand loyalty, and cemented it by bringing the Super Tenere here!
