Well, the cool thing for you who have not ridden it is that there is the old one and the newer one on opposite sides of the canyon. New one is probably better (IMO), but you really need to ride one up, then the other down, then do it the other way in order to get the whole experience. And there is a lot of great riding around it, top or bottom elevations.
So the question would be are you going to leading some of expeditions?
Maybe, but this is also on your way south from the NorthWet. South of Sonora (and north of Mariposa) on Hwy 49 at Moccasin, Hwy. 120 intersects it. Old Priest Grade is on the south side of the canyon and Hwy. 120 is the newer grade on the north side heading up the hill toward Groveland. The two converge at the bottom and top of the grade. You might do a couple loops in a half hour or so before continuing south on 49 (also fun) toward the lodge in Mariposa.

I didn't recognize it from the photo, but I guess Rich is talking about the Old Priest Grade on 120, on the way to the park. Thought Tyler's pic was the "Little Dragon," a stretch of CA 49, down in the same neighborhood, cuz it had just been mentioned.

Guess we're awful lucky to have so many roads like that around here we can't keep track of them all.

Just stokin' the fires.

are the two sides of the canyon that Rich mentioned. The first (from a car) is the fun side. Dream on.

DOH! Thanks for clearing that up, Mike. Color me ignorant and everybody think twice before following me anywhere! ;)

I shoulda watched BDR's full video instead of just mistaking the location of Tyler's photo. So THAT section of 49 is what everyone has been calling "The Little Dragon"!?! I referred to that further south part of 49 as "(also fun)" while thinking that the dragony name referred to Priest Grade for how long now?

Well dang - more foreshadowing what all good stuff is in store just getting to the Mariposa lodging.

Cute but a little slow... ;)

Yeah. Don't follow Rich anywhere. I hear he used to get lost on the ski-lift also. That's why he is the Ex-Ski-Bum.

Et tu, Sam? I mean: one expects that kinda treatment from Tyler. ;) But you, my friend? And after you got lost on "The Back Way to Tahoe" ride only a couple miles in? "Where's Puppychow?" :p

I'm not sure. The dozen or so riders following me all made it to lunch and around the Lake. I'm pretty sure the whole group was on FJRs,* so you've raised a pretty good question. :p

* unlike today's confusing mix of Wingabagos, trikes and such that one might follow out of the parking lot

Ohh I remember who I was following now. It was Rog. OK, so the new edict is don't follow Rog, and definitely do not follow me. I don't like being followed..

...and there was a red frickin' BMW in the middle also. I am pretty sure it was his fault.

BTW I made it around the lake too, except I had gotten in front of the rolling cluster-feck. Hmm, I wonder if it was on purpose.

Well, Rog is on a trike now, so tread lightly - you're only a few poorly chosen words from crossing Miss Demeanor. ;)

Good times - nearly everyone was still on Gen.I finery! :)

What's life without a few poor choices?

Besides, it's funny how we progress from tri-cycles to bi-cycles to motor-cycles, and then regress back to trikes....

I cannot express in words how excited I am about this trip. Yosemite has been so high on my bucket list for years. I can hardly wait to get there, but at the same time, I'm looking so forward to the journey.

This is going to be special. I can feel it in my soul.

The waiting is the hardest part....

Let's not be picking on the tri-cycle crowd.:) :)

Yeah, there are lots of reasons to keep the trike but it will never be a motorcycle. If the right buyer shows up I'll get another wing. If not I'll keep riding the spyder.

Tyler says the motorcycle is a waltz and the spyder is a polka, either way you're still dancing.:) :)

Well, Tyler would know how to polka better than I. It's likely that I could get *that feeling* from a trike on straightaways, but I doubt I could ever get used to not being one with a motorcycle leaning through turns. Really glad to read that 2 wheels is an option for you again, Ray.

Here's a clip I shot awhile back on my 05' as a refresher for some or primer for the newbys that'll be visiting our fine state in June. Not to rub it in, but Old Priest Grade and the Little Dragon are 20 minutes from my place. Tours of a couple other "special" local roads can be had for a cold one. ;) .
