Riding around Colorado this week, anybody else?

I was watching out for you around Woodland Park and Pikes Peak yesterday (Sunday). I was out on my FJR for a bit with some friends (other bikes). I live in Woodland Park, so I'm sure you'll ride through here today. Pikes Peak looks good this morning, but watch out for afternoon thunderstorms...

NAFO web site - Registration Open Until July 20th

I just cancelled my reservation at the Marriott today (room with two beds). I am still hoping/planning to make it up for some hanging, but I have to go back east the week that NAFO starts, so I'll definitely miss the first few days. If one does not make it to the gathering, how can they get...

    Possible NAFO Rides

One of the folks had trouble downloading my routes to his Zumo, so I have simplified this process somewhat by creating one file with all of my suggested NAFO routes. Directions for the Zumo (same for most GARMIN GPS units with just some slight variations depending upon the unit): 1. The...

    CO Memorial Day Trip

Not sure where all you are planning to go, but I have some pretty good info on my web page that may be useful -- Dave's Colorado Rides. Also advise that you check the Colorado Dept of Trans (CDOT) to confirm what roads are still not open. As of right now it looks like Independence Pass (CO-82...

    Sonora & Ebbets Passes Open!

Glad to hear that they have made progress on the Sierra passes -- guess the late snow must have not been as heavy as the early stuff. Here in Colorado the passes that are closed in the winter are still closed, but they are working on them. They all normally open by Memorial Day with no...

Motorcycles top list of military's non-war worries

MSF is just training -- you've got to have the experience on top of that, and most of these folks are young and don't have this experience. They also have lots of Testosterone! Been there...done that...fortunately did not get killed!

    Southern Utah ride

In answer to your questions: ***road conditions (ie is it fairly well maintained, bad crown, gravelly, etc) and yes, I am aware these things change, caution first. --Great road, beautiful climb out of Cedar City up to the top of the plateau, and you can also whip on up to Cedar Breaks National...

Must ride roads in Arizona/New Mexico?

North Rim normally does not open until mid-May, so you'll need to check the NPS web to see if it is open or not.

    Oatman highway

Yep, it sure is an interesting and fun road to ride. I always think about the old cars driving along this road in the 1950's with the burlap water bag hanging in front of the grill when it would be so hot and they would be working to get up the hills. Sure must have been interesting times...

    Any Colorado members around?

Very pleased with Apex Sports in Colorado Springs. Family owned. Good place. Will discount, but sometimes not as much as other, but great to deal with them and they have a very good service department also. I've purchased three bikes from them over the past few years.

Photo of my 06 taken today

It was a beautiful day along the Front Range of the Rockies today so I took a couple of phtos of my 2006 FJR and my 2002 Gold Wing. Both were taken in my driveway with a snow-capped Pikes Peak in the background. We had 8" of fresh snow on the ground yesterday morning and most of it was gone...

    Possible NAFO Rides

That one is easy to plan -- Depart Marriott. Head east, turn right. Head south, turn right. Head east, turn right. Head north, turn right. Arrive Marriott!!!

    Possible NAFO Rides

Whenever you want to do them, or whenever the ride committee decides that they wll be an organized NAFO ride. Or, to be organized by folks hanging around in the evening and deciding what ride they want to do the next day -- that's the fun way!

    NAFO and Pikes Peak

Not that I know of -- should not be much of a problem on this road as I can't see why one would be getting on the brakes that hard to even know. I sure did not find out, but I think that I've rather have ABS than not on the gravel.
