"Ahhh, Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed."
After a 45 minute remove and replace procedure the new ECU was placed in its new home. Temperatures here in the northland are brisk. Test flight was taken at 37 degrees indicated on the FJR's thermometer. Bike fired immediately after replacement. No other actions were required. Only thing I lost was my current trip mileage. Everything was same as before. Start was immediate and she settled right in at 1100 rpm. Out to the freeway and a quick run up to 84, engaged the CC and engagement was immediate. Up and down adjustments work just fine.

For those who want to get by the limiter...construction of a 2013.5 FJR1300 is a viable option.

SUCCESS!
So you're saying that the permanent odometer, clock, screen settings, etc, all stayed as is? That's about one small step short of miraculous.
Yep, only thing that reset itself was my trip mileage...I didn't look real close at my clock...I will check that next time I get on. Everything else stayed the same...my custom menus, etc. were all unchanged.

Enabling the cruise and setting the speed above 80 made all of the mocking and snarky comments fade into the background. Oh what we pioneers must deal with as we blaze that trail

...I do want to give SkooterG a shout out

...without his encouragement I am not sure I would have pushed this hard to try this. The one thing I would still like to know is why oh why did it take so darn long for this thing to get shipped?

7 months is a long time...I am going to chock it up to the port problems on the west coast for now...

My clock did reset...so clock and trip odometers did reset.

Hmmm.......

Just called my Yamaha dealer to order part # 1MC-8591A-50

He seems to think that's for a clutchless. Is he full of it and I should just forge ahead with that part #?

Thanks in advance.

AK

Did Yamaha offer a clutchless* FJR in the US in 2014? If there was no AE in '14 then the ECU has to be the right one.

* Ya, ya, technically it is not clutchless, it is an electrically actuated clutch.

1MC-8591A-50-00 ENGINE CONTROL UNIT ASSY

Fits a FJR1300A - FJR13AER - 2014

The four models in 2014 in the US are FJR13AER (A model), FJR13AECR (Cali version A model), FJR13ESER (ES model) and the FJR13ESECR (Cali version ES). Maybe he saw the "AE" and thought it was the old auto clutch AE.

Thanks Fred for clearing this up for him and others....the P/Ns with the lovely "C" in them refer to parts appropriate for bikes trapped in the Socialist Republic of Kalifornia. 49 staters are advised to avoid those P/Ns when ordering for their steeds.

1MC-8591A-50-00 was the P/N I ordered and used.

Enjoy everyone!

John,Can you run it up to 155?

I'm not sure I can use a cc if I can't max out the bike on it.

<running and ducking, serpentine>
It will be limited to about 100mph (mine goes to an indicated 103mph and regulates there).

Dan
Only 100mph? That's just nucking futs! Who in their right mind would want to be limited like that?!? Hell, my 2011 RT will go up to 112mph!!

Got it plugged in and test ridden. 105 indicated, 102 Garmin. And everything transfered: odo, trip odo, gas gauge, clock, info screens, the whole shebang.

The only oddity is the indicated engine temp is running rather high. Fan not coming on or anything. Firmware glitch?

Gonna need that fixed in the next month or so, being from where we live.

I really can't see the new ECU having anything to do with this. Sure there is not some other explanation? Like operator error? :tease: :taunt:
