Has anyone been in the Clarksville, AR area? It looks like there are some fairly good hotel prices and riding both north and south.

Oh yea...many times...usually at the Best Western Sherwood Inn on Hwy103/Rogers St
hey, Petey! Been in any of the other hotels there or can you vouch for the area and access to good riding?

Access to good riding? Absolutely, just look at a map...I have stayed in Ozark which is ~23 miles west of Clarsville, but the BW is a good place.

I've considered basing a ride out of Clarksville. It would be easy to hit the good roads from there. Hwy 21 north (one of my favorite) and highway 123 are very close. However, I think it's in a dry county. If there's interest .. or it matters ... I could find out for sure.

Edit:

I see I'm late, as usual. ;)

OK. I checked, and it looks like Clarksville is smack-dab in the middle of Johnson County, which is dry. It looks like it may be 20 miles or so to the nearest liquor store if that matters.

It's looking like Harrison is the best option...

Nothing at all wrong with Harrison. And if I'm allowed to ride an old Kawasaki I may have solved my potential tire problem

I forgot I have two bikes. I scare myself sometimes.

I can't imagine life with just one bike again.

Good to see all the traffic and advice coming in. ( I just got out of class about an hour ago). I have no doubt we will have it sorted out as to where we are going to stay soon. I am looking forward to planning the ride down. Where to meet up on that Friday and the route into the Arkansas Hills. I know that 3 or 4 of us will be coming from the north east. We will prob have to do some slab to get to the good stuff quicker, but it will be worth it. Food and a few sites along the way down will keep me day dreaming through these awful winter days. Words like snow-pocolypse, snow-nado, and snow-mageddon are all I hear about lately. I wanna talk about apexes, lean angles, chicken strips, farkles, scenery, adventure, and great times. The heck with accumulation and winter-mix. Ride more!!! JS !!

A bit early for me to say for sure I can make it but I think so. I could probably leave work a little early on Friday and still get down there.

My daughter spent 4 yrs in Clarksville. Told a story about the city decided to issue three liquor licenses for restaurants.

The local Country Club bought one, a little honky-tonk on the edge of town got the second one, and the Baptist Church bought the 3rd one and sat on it just to keep anyone else from selling beer.

Like many others, I'd prefer to steer clear of Eureka Springs. Harrison is fine. The Hub has recently been freshened up and its perfectly fine for my needs. I like the fact that it has a lodge, restaurant, and some camping options.

I've ridden Arkansas at least 10 seperate trips. I know my way around there real well - don't need a map or GPS kind of well. There's good riding south of I-40, but the best roads in the state are in the northwest (North of I-40 and west of Hwy 7, INCLUDING Hwy 7). My favorite road by far is Hwy 123, especially the north section up to Mt. Judea (like someone else mentioned). I could literally ride that road back and forth all day long.

Fair warning, though - if you prefer to ride your bike "spirited", then leave the house with fresh tires. Those AR roads EAT rubber like it's chips and salsa.

Griff and I stayed in Harrison at the quality Inn a couple times last year. We both ended up getting tires at the shop in town. If I get a vote, I'd go for Harrison. The Hub is definitely tired, not unlivable but tired. Harrison is about 30 min north of it and has everything you'd need. Yamaha shop, food, booze, milkshakes.

Of course, I'll go anywhere.

And you haven't lived until you're not sure if that tire will make the last 50 home...

Marty has been working on some routes from last time. The email he sent me included the maps and they are very squiggly. It seems like there is so many roads down in this area. Marty has a super great handle on the routes. I am going to make myself useful and look for some good grub on the way down and when we are down there. Maybe they is my special talent??

Suggestions to Eat from the local crowd or others who have ridden the area please???

Oark General Store in Oark is usually well accepted and it's fun getting there.

Low Gap Cafe near Jasper is good, but I don't know if it's big enough to handle a crowd.

The Ozark Cafe in Jasper has already been mentioned.

And ....

If there are any gun enthusiasts in the group, The Saunders Museum in Berryville is worth a couple of hours looking at old guns and other stuff.
