Allen and I have been figuring out a route to get there. It seems we will be meeting in Marshall Illinois on Friday Morning. Heading to Harrison that night. The mileage is around 500 from Marshall. Allen has about 90 to get to Marshall and I have about 50. It will be a long day but worth it as we get into Missouri. The trip across IL will be a little lame, but we flat landers always get punished to get to the good riding. Any suggestions on good roads would be appreciated. We have a pretty good idea, but would love to hear any gems of info you have. Places to eat or things to drive by. Looks like we are going to cross the Mississippi around Chester IL.
Thanks.
Take it from someone who has ridden probably every road on the Illinois side of St. Louis, there are no nice roads. Nice people? Plenty, but nice motorcycle roads? Nope.

So, are you saying it is best to just slab it through IL?

I'm out. It turns out your spring break is the same as my partner's kids and she has dibs on all school holidays.

Next time.

Hope you don't end up with a long to-do list instead of riding! Will we see you at SEOR?

It's my Biz partner and she covers me when i take off on trips, giving her the major holidays is a cheap price to pay. Yes, I'm going to SEO.

That's too bad. Was looking forward to some more coffee porn!!

Maybe u should just get some kids so u could have all the school holidays off.

Just kidding. Thanks for all the routing and hotel help on this one already.

I have at least one I would be willing to loan on a semi permanent basis!! The wife says we have to have them back at tax time!!

I still prefer the two lane highways that roll through farms and little towns over anything with "I-" in it's name. Just don't expect hills or curves on the way through here.

Yep, we think alike.

But now that I'm down in SC, I don't have to think about that scenario too much.

I'd probably end up splitting it. I'd prefer to take the rural highways anywhere to the slab, but I'd try to balance time and distance. So I'd use the GPS to plan "shortest route" for some parts (which almost always ends up being a back road route), and "fastest route" in others (which almost always ends up being slab).

I went back and re-visited some of my Arkansas ride reports from years back. Kind of got me pumped up about this trip!

I know this is a still a little ways out, but it would be nice to have an idea of who is committed to coming and who is contemplating on coming.

The Committed include

Myself

Allen_C

We are arriving Friday March 27th at the Comfort Inn that Marty referenced in post #68. We just had to work out the details before we booked. We are meeting up around Marshall Illinois and heading that way.

I know others have emailed or PMed me about their plans, but I will not put them on the Committed list.

Some said they are looking to camp, some are likely looking for a roomie. To facillitate the hook ups, maybe you could post your intentions here.

Allen_C and I will be in the area riding and hope to see some of you.

Consider modifying your original post to include this information with the "Update date". That will make it easy for everyone to find, as this thread could get to 30 pages before it's all over.

My current plans are to go if the weather looks decent. I'll do cold and I'll do some rain, but I won't do cold and rain. I'm planning to bring the camping gear, but I'm not opposed to hoteling it either. I've asked a few buddies in my neck of the woods to join me (including non-FJR riders0 and we will see.
