:assassin: I sure as hell hope these noises can be attributed to something else, but I have a bad feeling about this! Yes, there are reports of "TICKING" on the other site(s), now that the `06 are accumulating distance. Somebody, please tell me this is a bad dream. AND, please note: I made a concerted effort to ensure this post be located in the correct category...as in ENDLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not poking that dead skunk.

Newbie poster with 2 posts and nothing about diagnosis.

Rumor, rumor, rumor.

Eh, big deal. Same old song:

With a tick-tick here

And a tick-tick there

Here a tick

There a tick

Everywhere a tick-tick

Ole Mammy Yammy had a tick

<Everybody, now!>

E-I-E-I-O

I'm sure there's an Audi forum somewhere with someone complaiining about sudden acceleration of their new Audi, just like the old 5000's.

I thought that was, "I O! I O! I O!"

Yo shuswaper. Do you ever post anything positive about the FJR? Seems to me you're always trying to stir up the pot relating to FJR reliability and design.

Do you work for BMW, or Honda? Or are you just a negative kind of person, always searching for the faults in everything?

That's an astute point. You what struck me last weekend at a gathering of a bunch of motorcycles that all ride them many, many thousands of miles was that FJR is becoming so much more popular of a choice that some of us regulars feel undistinctive.

The second thing that struck me is how I've never seen an FJR break down. There was a BMW that shredded an alternator belt and a Goldwing that had a valve stem break for some reason, but not a single FJR has failed in a rally that I know of.

In fact, beeroux's FJR windshield did break, but it was an aftermarket Calsci. That guy is about to turn over 90,000 miles and he abuses that thing unmercifully. Only changes the plugs every 40,000 miles.

Even Skooter's 70,000+ mile FJR ticks, but it's been doing it for many thousands of miles and he didn't think he'd get stranded.

The FJR rocks!

Any idea why? Was it down by the cutouts, or did he have an avian impact of significant magnitude to cause fragmentation?

It didn't break specifically because of an impact. He said he thought it was fatigued for some reason. Couldn't be from the 80,000+ miles and having never washed it? What was most entertaining is him describing holding the top of the windshield for 200 miles until he could properly fix it with duct tape and a window scraper bought at a remote Nevada gas station.

Should be good for another 80,000 miles don't you think?

I just realized I've committed a forum sin by hijaaking the thread. I should slapped by another Admin!

LOL...good questions all! No, I am just a dedicated, retired 55 year old enthusiast. As a matter of fact, I consider myself quite positive (as do my family and friends). Where I differ, is in the realm of separation of bias and fact. If you had been following my responses lucidly over the years on this and other sites, you would have gathered that I have plauded the riding platform in awesome terms. But, I am a realist. I know when things go wrong and I get thoroughly aggravated when their is denial (corporate and otherwise) in play! I have a `96 st1100 as well as the `04 fjrA and the wife has an `04 suzuki 800 intruder. I won`t bother to differentiate (did I spell that write?) between them. All I know is , my toaster oven `04 is being punted out the door next spring....probobly for an `07. Ciao Skooter, u purveyer of crooked facts (SO CALLED)! :assassin:

Someone who does not know the FJR engine and is somewhat scared, will hear noises that sound like the dreaded ticking. (i.e. a newbie on a 2006 and fjrowners.com)

The ticking is legendary, but blown out of proportion is you ask me. (and I may have a ticker)

I would think this is mere speculation right now, but would be interested if in fact the 06's do tick in the future.

So this ticking. Might it start at 4400 miles or so, sound like a very mild valve tap on the left side, and occur only between 3500 and 4000 RPM?

On a better note....I changed my oil today. Just over ten grand. Changed it previously at four. Six thousand mile oil change. Still not ticking.
