This is gonna be bad ***. Russ, Don, Patch and me will split a cabin. After Dan scares the **** out if himself on that brand new torque monster, I'm gonna buy it off him CHEAP!! Lol.

Comeonnnnnn March!!

Hey Dan...If Alex shaves his back, you'll love cuddling with him...Or so I hear!

I believe I will be attending this Moab ride! After speaking with HRZ, I will share a room and expences with him and Patch. I am in the process of buying a new bike to take, so I can ride with these guys. Like Don, I will trailer my new Yamaha WR450F and my Suzuki King Quad ATV. I hope to have my Yamaha all licenced for the street by then so I can avoid trailering to the trail-head. My ATV is already legal for Utah. Tucson Joe is bringing his RZr also. Picking this ride over the Jeep Jamboree was really gutsee, but it will be fun I'm sure. Havn't had a bike like this is quite some time, it'll probably kick my ***. So put me on the list Don!

Huge congratulations on your new Yamaha WR450F, that's the greatest machine going for the dirt. Is what yamafitter - Bill F. rode through Mexico's Copper Canyon FJR Forum Trek, in Canada you can buy these already street legal. I want to get all of the info from you regarding how you go about getting an Arizona license on this beauty!

I know a lot of KTM riders that will argue till the end of time about what is the greatest dirt bike. Yamaha was the first to come up with a good off-road bike that offered the magic button to get the beast running and that is the main reason I have been riding a Yamaha 4-Stroke since 2003. There is a lot to be said for the simplicity and light weight of the 2-Stroke and now that KTM has an electric start 2-Stroke is has me thinking but I really like my local Yamaha dealer and I don't need a new dirt bike so I'm staying with what I have.

What Don said about the the WR450F being street legal in Canada is a little misleading. Licensing is under provincial control and differs from province to province. The WR450F is "grey market" when it comes to getting a street plate in Ontario and you need an understanding dealer to help you with the process. Tom's WR250R meets all the legal requirements from the factory is completely street legal both in the USA and Canada.

The first aftermarket item you are going to need for the WR450 for this ride is an aftermarket gas tank. The stock tank just does not give you the range you will need for this ride. Try Clarke Racing or IMS websites for a larger fuel tank. Note that with the change to EFI in 2012 the Clarke Racing tank listed on the website may not fit. I would call Clarke Racing directly to see what they offer.

More information on the Arizona "street legal" WR450F from Brian Boles of AZ Beemers:

All AZ requires is a headlight, tail/brake-light, mirror and horn. Turn signals are not required. Many easy peasy kits for a couple of hundred to kit the WR to street legal, since it already has the headlight. The kit has switch for brakelight and horn.

Thanks, BB!

BigD, we'll be trailering to the trail head...it's a hitch on a dirt bike on pavement...save the gas for the slick rock.

Thanks for the info on the tank, its well appreciated. I just confirmed my order on the bike, lucky for me I managed to match my out of state deal within Arizona. Should have it within a week or so. I knew I would want a larger tank, not only for Moab but anywhere. Nothing is worse than running out of gas, miles are twice as hard to cover in the desert than anywhere else when on foot. I have not had a dirt bike since my DT-250, so unless you're an old fart, many folks ask "What's a DT-250". So this 450 will break my bones if I'm not careful.

Thank Don for adding me to the list. Yes, I will eventually license it completely for the street, just so I can skip rules about riding to a trail-head somewhere or riding on BLM land or roads. It will be licensed for (point a to point B) street use. I have to get it prepped for the street, Horn, Mirror, Brake Light, License Plate Light, and if I want to ride in Utah, Turn Signals. This is going to be an awesome ride, with not only all of us, but the Jeep Jamboree folks also. Although it will be crowded. Which is one reason "Cluster ****" is a great name.

"Which is one reason "Cluster ****" is a great name." Actually Dan, we are reserving and saving the name "Cluster ****" (penned by wheatonFJR) for the FJR Forum Ride of Colorado in July. Of course, you can also use it in reference to HotRodZilla if you wish to! Since cool guys like you and yamafitter ride the WR450F, I need to look at this bike closely.

As a KTM rider, I'll say this....if you find a decent bike (KTM, Yamaha, Honda, etc) for a decent price then just ride the hell out of it. MOST of the people I hear arguing about which bike is best sucks at riding most of 'em. I'm on a 530 EXC (450 size bike with a bigger bore/longer stroke ;) and will NEVER be able to push that bike to its potential. LET'S JUST RIDE THE DAMNED THINGS! Oh, and BigD, get bark busters...a steering stabilizer is really nice too!

Atomicmoto.com is selling Klim dirt bike pants (the Chinook) for a SMOKIN' price right now. If'n ya need pants for dirt I'd recommend 'em.

Oh, and if you get too large of tank it makes the tough stuff tougher...most of the time I start with my tank around 2/3 full and that gets me around 50-60 miles riding like my hair's on fire...by then I need a fuel stop break anyhow...if you're riding with me in Moab your stock tank will work by the way.

Well, not having much hair left, I can't ride like its on fire otherwise I'll look like Adam! I just don't have a nice head of hair like Don has, but then I'm not Irish. I already priced larger tanks, but at $260 for 3/4 addition gallon of gas, I'd rather push my bike through 10 miles of desert. Actually with all of the thousands of jeeps and other enthusiasts that will be out there, gas should not be a problem. I was told that the Yamaha WR450 has a device on it that only the owner can remove that actually cuts the power in half. There is a video on you tube showing how to remove it. I'm excited to ride in the dirt again on two wheels. Its been a long time and AJ tells me you ride like a crazy man and he is more like Grandpa riding a mule!
I just ordered a new HJC Off-Road Helmet, it looks pretty cool, some new gloves and some **** you wear under your clothes that has built in armor in the back, elbows and shoulders from Cycle Gear. It was on sale at a good price, but before Moab, I plan on getting some riding pants also. Gotta wait until I get paid again.

I actually got so excited about going to Moab, I temporarily forgot about Colorado and called Moab "Cluster ****" although it'll apply there with all of the jeeps and such that will be there. It's going to be a totally awesome ride and great time. Just the scenery, the overall event being with good friends, lots of laughs. At night we can all sit around a campfire and make fun of AJ!

You know Dan, Henry would be a perfect rider for you to team up with at Moab. Since he's a Fireman, not an LEO, he's smart and would make a dependable off road ride partner for you. I plan on riding with Senor Enrique Garza, you know you can always trust a Firefighter!

I need to know more about your Yamaha WR450F price/vendor deal (only **** ride KTM's!). If we run into any water crossings I'll help you out, Tucson Joe and Papa Chuy taught Bill, Russ, Chris and Scott everything they know about fording rivers! jes' sayin' and nuff' said!

First of Beemerdons, we don't need no stinkin' hose staggers! Unless of course something catches on fire, then it'd be nice to have one along... Second, I've seen the horror of you and BigD's thong cuddling sessions. I'll be sending you a therapist bill...AGAIN! Last, BigD, you're not going to put a BIG All Terrain on the back pf that 450 are you? You don't exactly have a great track record of not putting funkyassed tires on motorcycles...

I see we are going to have a wide range of skill in riders ... I just hope I can find someone (or group) that I can match up with. As for my gas tank on my WR250R, I put a 4.7 gal tank on and I don't notice the extra weight. But then it is a lighter bike to start with as compared to the WR450F.

I'll take the help Don. Yes, Henry being a fireman would be a good riding partner, especially when suffering from a severed leg due to getting it caught in the chain. And I sure do want to be able to cross the Colorado river in Moab successfully, I understand some of the trails cross it many times throughout its trail. My only concern is the look on your face in the picture, if I were to place a caption it would read "Oh ****, I think that was a wet fart!!"

Mmm 4.7g tank. I want one of those for my CRFL. Still to new for the aftermarket though, they keep saying real soon. The tiny 7 liter tank isn't really confidence inspiring. Usually get about 180km to a tank (about 105 miles) off road with it though. Until the aftermarket catches up, I bought a rack with a mount for a Rotopax which I still have to buy. I'm thinking the new 1.75 one will equate to a full tank (you can squeeze in 2 gallons into it).

Were going to have to get together with Bill on the KelbasaHauler at some point for a trail ride. He keeps bragging that the Ganaraska Trail system is right outside his front door. Sort of a FODSNorth.

You probably wont want to fill your tank all the way for the trails we'll be riding. There will be some sheer drop offs (2 feet +/-), DEEP sand, fast sections of sand whoops, and steep climbs and step-ups. ALL of it is VERY ridable and I (and I'm sure others) will be off my bike helping people with some of the tougher stuff...quite frankly, it's easier to group people by willingness to fall over on their dirt bikes. I crash...fairly often some days...scratches don't bother me. The places we'll be riding look worse than they are and build TONS of confidence and skills many don't practice. Fast riders can boogie between the tech stuff and hold for slower riders to help 'em through it. After Moab you WILL be a better sand rider, faster in whoops, and will have FAR more confidence in your bikes suspension. DON'T PANIC, this will be a learning environment for me too. We're just riding, not racing. And yes, a little lighter will be better then a little heavier. Oh, I'd suggest taking off anything you don't want ripped off your bike, ie., turn signals, side bags, mirrors, stuff like that. Even a slow drop can thrash that stuff. Lastly, no, this is NOT a ride designed to thrash your bike. Falling over is fairly probable though...there will be relatively little road riding.
