Weenie! List edited.Never said I was going.Bungie Steve, eh
we are not going to be able to make this :'( :'(
Looking forward to this one. Scott and Jenny, sorry you guys won't be making this.
Gerard, how 'bout you ??? You were talking about going with us lowly street saps.
Actually Guillermo your timing is perfect on this question, eh! Brian Boles, Back Road Bob Little and Enrique Garza with other AZ Beemers just went to the Heidenau's for Moab for their BMW GS's! I'm still sticking with my Continental TKC80's for Moab, but I am interested to see how the Heidenau's perform!I just finished getting the WR ready for storage today. Big Blue will be all set to go when Team Canada shows up.
To help turn this into a more typical BeemerDons type thread and put this whole thing in the ditch I want to ask what is the best tire to use for this ride??
My F800GS has worn the stock Michelin Anakee's, TKC80's and now the new Heidenau's. Here's some review points, in particular in comparison with the TKC80's
On road - these are great road tires. Only slightly less than the Anakee's. Completely stable at speed, where the TKC80's would wobble. Sure footed in the corners where the TKC80's would knob walk. I noticed that they would skate over tar snakes, which the Anakees would stick to. If they get the mileage that is anecdotally reported, I'll be very happy with them. They do get an odd wobble at lower speeds, less than 30MPH.
Road noise - OK. They have some wierd resonances that occur at certain speeds. At that low wobble speed and at around 50MPH and again at 80MPH. Otherwise quieter than TKC80's by a lot.
On gravel roads - Very good, good traction braking and turning. Slight tendancy to "hunt" in the gravel, making the front wheel wander around a bit. TKC80's did not do this.
On rocks - Good, once they bit in to a rock, they would stay and not slip. Have to give a slight edge to the full knobs on TKC80.
In sand - Very good, actually more stable on the front end than the TKC80's which, to me, have a tendancy to "plow" with the front end. The Heidenau's seemed to stay up on the sand better.
patch308 with your kind permission I'm going to move this over to AZ Beemers Club Forum too, to see if there are AZB's that would like to join you in some gnarly Moab dirt riding! When AZ Beemers wanting to join you and your Doofus Brother post up, I'll cross post the replies here so you can have a valid rider head count. Is anyone, besides myself (and HRZ me thinks) interested in the sand and slick rock accessible to dirt bikes only? I'm going to try to get some GREAT off road routes together that will be fun, challenging, and WAY off pavement! For these routes, full dirt gear (elbow guards,chest/back protection, knee guards, etc) is recommend. We'll trailer to the trail heads and letterip from there. If you're an off road rider, you wont be dissapointed!
https://www.azbeemers.org/forum/index.php?topic=3822.msg31425;topicseen#msg31425 Muchas Gracias mi Amigo, it is in Reply #56!Please feel free to post it. I'm putting the word out with the guys (and girl) I ride with locally.
As much as I would like to say yes to this I also want to ride with my wife at least one day and she is on a sport quad. If you run across any must-do trails that are quad friendly please throw them my way. I am bringing the Husky as a back-up bike or in case I want to go play with the dirt bike guys. Anyone else bringing quads? Is anyone, besides myself (and HRZ me thinks) interested in the sand and slick rock accessible to dirt bikes only? A quick search brought up White Wash Sand Dunes which sounds fun and can be tied into a run up Ten Mile Wash. Might also try Top of The World and Fins & Things if she's feeling frisky.Sorry UberKul, I'm not familiar with any quad trails...I do, however, know of some sand dunes in thethe area we'll be riding in that I'm sure would be great funto on a quad!
Joe and Cec, Miss Donna and I are discussing renting a quad or SXS for a day so that we can go out exploring with you two. Also, this way that bullying tool HotRodZilla cannot run over us and break our ankles.UberKul, My wife and I are bringing our RZR if that is any help.
I also hope some more people bring quads or SXS./

I'll have a flatbed ATV trailer we can use to transport at least two more ATV's (3 total) on if someone's machine needs a lift. Sorry but side by's are a little too big unless we shuttle.Joe and Cec, Miss Donna and I are discussing renting a quad or SXS for a day so that we can go out exploring with you two.
