Uh, I think HRZ and I are in. We'll be discussing details over the next few days I'm sure, but our "dual sporting" will likely be sand wash/whoops and slick rock trail...no place for a big bike. I'm going to bring out the KTM 530 EXC (it's pretty much a pissed off 450) and he'll likely be on something similar. I WILL be wearing FULL armor...helmet, pressure suit (elbow, forearm, chest, back, shoulder armor), knee guards, MX boots, gloves. If anyone else is up for some INCREDIBLE single track, sand dunes, slick rock, short drops, steep climbs, and the occasional spill (likely by moi), let me know...and have GOOD knobbies on your bike before joining up. I'll be running an intermediate terrain tread. I'll see if'n I can find some photos/video to post up later.

Think something like this stuff...and sand dunes.

Hey Joe...After Patch posted that ****, are you sure you still wanna loan me your bike? I'm not even sure I still wanna go!! WTF??

AJ, yes you can still use the bike.

From the pictures you can see why I am taking Side by Side.

I think so, but believe they run as tours...you can't rent 'em and go off on your own, to my knowledge.

Is there somewhere near by that rents ATV's for weekend? Just thinking here.....
https://highpointhummer.com/rentals.html High Point Hummers (isn't that 'Zillas's nickname?) rents ATV's on an hourly, half day and full day basis! They include a trailer to transport you to the trailhead, safety gear and a cooler to hold your Labatt's and Moosehead eh.

https://www.moabtourcompany.us/id16.html Moab Tour Company also rents ATV's by the half day and full day (no hourly rentals).

https://www.canyonlandsjeep.com/ You can also rent a Wrangler from Canyonlands Jeep. I'm a huge Jeep fan, I've owned them continuously since 1971 when my Uncle Sam took away the Jeep he gave me to drive while I was in The Big Green Machine!

Excellent Southern Utah offroad Ride Report from AZ Beemers Club Member Moto99 - Ron Bongard. Unfortunately, Back Road Bob Little broke his ankle on this trek!

Bob is a really tough guy and continued to ride two more days in the dirt with a broken ankle. BRB is not a big old weenie man like yamafitter! jes' sayin' and nuff' said!

I spent three days with the AARG guys and fellow AZ Beemer BackroadBob exploring the dirt roads of Southern Utah. We rode House Rock Road, Cottonwood Canyon, Hells Backbone, The Burr Trail and a few others. These are some great GS roads. The scenery was just beautiful, the fall colors on the trees are turning, it was a great time to ride that area. I plan on going back next fall and doing it again, I will post up a ride for anyone that wants to go along. The trip did have one down side. AZ Beemer BackroadBob took a fall on a rough uphill section and broke his ankle. Amazingly, he finished the ride on Saturday and Sunday and did not find out the ankle was broken until Monday when he got home and went to the doctor. So, Bob is now laid up for six weeks, lets all hope for a full recovery.

I once rode 30 km out of the bush with my leg broken in three places while sweeping the Algonquin Trailride. It was ride out or become dinner for some black bear. I had to shift with my heel since I couldn't flex my ankle (one of the three breaks). BeemerDons would have sat there and cried like a little girl. Fortunately the trail was quite easy and it didn't take me that long to get back to the start. It was then an hour drive to Bancroft which was the closest hospital heading back towards home. They put a partial cast on it due to the swelling that was settling in and I went home and then went to the fracture clinic in Ajax the next morning.

So next time BeemerDons starts whining about some paper cut I'm just going to tell him to suck it up Buttercup.

This Old Buttercup is highly impressed yamafitter, I rode 300 miles (that's miles, not kilometers you Weenie Man!) out of Mexico on a broken right leg (single break!).

I broke it at Bahia Cholla, Sonora Estado while riding with SkooterG and GS Jane, just kept my Sidi Combat Touring Boot (bought from Fred W, still had a Boston Bruins decal on it!) secured tightly and eight hours and an International Border Crossing later I was in the Chandler Hospital with a full cast on it! jes' sayin' and nuff' said!

I quite agreed. I just don't bounce the way I used to. Now when I fall off in the woods it is more of a splat and I just lay there for a while enjoying the view of the dirt from a different perspective.

I returned Sunday from a off road ride thru Southern Utah. Great ride and fantastic scenery and would like to do it again next fall, but I need to watch out for the one rock with my name on it. We were about 1/4 mile from the 10,000' summit when I caught a rock going uphill and went down with my foot trapped underneath my pannier at a very strange angle. It was still 20 miles to get down off the mountain and another 80 miles to camp. It was not a pretty sight when I took my boot off. Several bourbons and a couple of pain killers got me thru the night.

The next day, it was 280 miles back to Show Low, a quick shower and then off to the emergency room. The doctor said "Yep, it's broken". Mare and I are heading to Phoenix in a couple of days to see my orthopedic surgeon.

I am not looking forward to the next six weeks of quiet time, but should be healed well enough for a ten day trip to Mexico the end of January!

Get well soon Back Road Bob, we all hope your recovery is quick. You have to be whole before Moab FODS VI!

Just spoke to the Moab Valley RV Resort in Utah and there are still cabins and RV sites available for FODS VI; cottages are fully sold out for March 21-24!

HotRodZilla, I talked to Tucson Joe yesterday about Baja and in course of the conversation he confirmed he's going to let you borrow his Suzuki DRZ400; muy Estupido!
