SacMike,

If you are in western Carolina, you are within shooting range of Greenville, SC...so be sure to stop on by if yer in the area. If it's during the week, we can put you up for the night so you don't have to set up a tent. If it's on the weekend, I can put you up and take you on a ride through this part of FJR paradise. Send me a pm if that appeals to you.

Mike, if you happen to pass near here on your trip, give me a call.

If I do answer the phone, (which is unlikely), I'll give you some unsolicited advice and I'll make fun of your goatee.

Have fun, …..you retired *******!

I know you aren't planning much, but plan on bringing your Spot device with the tracking enabled. It will help the Forum Angels looking over your shoulder look out for you.
Thanks. I had a SPOT 2 that crapped out on me, but I just bought a SPOT 3--I hope it's better. Once I get it set up, I'll link to it on this thread.

For all the good wishes and encouragement, thank you. For those who would like to meet and ride together, I hope to do that with all of you. For those who are offering a bed or a beer, ditto. For those who are so jealous, nyah nyah nyah. For Old Michael, now that you've lost the pony tail, I have nothing left to make fun of. Well, no, not nothing.

Sadly for me, the part of the trip that's fixed in time is when I'll be in the Syracuse area, and that's right when NAFO is going on, and continues till just about the time EOM will be winding up. I sure would like to make both of those shindigs, at least for a drive-by. I will if I can, but. . .

Finally, I ran out of likes two days in a row. Just assume I'm liking your posts. Most of 'em, anyway. And you CNY guys, I'd absolutely like to meet and ride with you. Never had a m/c when I lived in Syracuse. Plus, wnyfjr, I'll be in Buffalo for a couple days with my sister's family, then heading back to Syr. Maybe you can show me some good roads on the way? Same for all 'a you big lugs--I really do appreciate the offers. And don't be surprised if I show up.

This trip is coming up FAST! I modified the title of the thread and put my Spotwalla link in the first post, but realized people look on the last post of an old thread to see what's new. And then I realized changing the title or modifying the first post wouldn't even get it on the list of "New Posts," so this.

There's a surprising amount of getting ready to do for a trip like this. New tires and full service on the bike, of course. Go down the packing checklist a few more times, test-pack (more than once). I've never taken a ride this long in distance or time before, and naturally have to be ready for pretty much every weather situation (please God, NO snow!). Figure out where to stow some new gear among my usual packing arrangement. Sprayed "Kiwi Camp Dry" all over my tent and rain fly, boots, and gloves. What else? Maps, copy of Assistance List, last will and testament--Nahh. I think I'm almost there. Now it's just a matter of getting through the next FOUR FREAKING DAYS!

So here's the (NEWLY REVISED) Spotwalla link anyway. Hope it's right. And hope I get to see some of you folks soon.

When I click on the link it tells me 'trip not found'

I got some good input from Russ Perry--thanks, Russ. I THINK I might have it right now.

I pasted it into the other posts where it came up, but here it is again. (Damn, if this doesn't work, I'll have to change it in THREE places!) BTW, your trip looks very cool, RossKean, and it opened up just fine.

And thanks for your help too, RH. That was the one thing I didn't think to do.

Your Spotwalla page showed up OK. Says "No Locations" but that is to be expected since you haven't started yet.

Hey SM, your trip sounds like fun. Suggestions for your route after the four heads (Needles Hwy) see the Badlands when heading east out of Rapid City. When near the BRP and Dragon, don't miss the Cherohala Skyway and then head south to see the view from Lookout Mountain and be sure not to miss the Barber Motorsport Museum. If you like to sleep while you ride, take I-10 back to the left coast.

Have a great trip!

May this trip be the experience you hope for! If you ride through the Crossroads of America (Indiana) you are welcome to a ckean bed and shower!

Mike, as per our PM, don't be shy to call or txt me if your dates change (from me being away to NAFO).

If you're in or near DE and need anything... bed, shower, tools or (heaven forbid) a trailer, let me know. Send me a PM for specific contact info.
