If you read on I recanted my statements due to the fact I was totaly off base and wrong. Google screwed me again. Can't always count on it I guess.

Edit: Well it does look like you have a 1 in 47,941 chance of toasting your leg on the tail pipe.

At least its the first I have heard of it.

It's obviously a Gen III issue.

Another great reason to hang on to my non-leg-burner Gen II.

I promise I won't post pictures of my unburned leg to prove the point.

Hold on Babalooie! The pipes on my Gen3 have been extremely kind to my riding pants and the soles of my boots.

As the rider of a stock seat, I occasionally brush various bits of clothing against the pipes while squirming around seeking a comfortable sitting position after 6 hours aboard. ("Finding a new part of my *** to take the bruising.") At no time has this casual contact damaged pant leg or boot sole, even the "naked" pipe on the rider's left.

Sorry, but can't see this as a Gen3 issue.

Paging Mr. curnseye! Can you elaborate?

Interesting, I suppose. The 2013+ bikes did have the shock guard removed, but this is easily remedied.

For unknown reasons, there is no heat guard on the left side, where there is on the right. FWIW, my wife has a Suzuki LS650 whose right-side exhaust pipe, in spite of the heat guard, would instantly melt the plastic off a set of rain paints and burn the inside of her lower leg. I wound up wrapping this area with insulating wrap.

I suppose there is theoretical possibility one could burn your leg against the left-side pipe lowering the center-stand . But it seems hard to do. There be no melted plastic on mine, and no burn marks on me legs neither (arrrr - apologies to Wallace Beery). Strangely, there be mysterious black scorches beneath the heat shield on me right pipe (ok, apologies this time to Robert Newton).

Anybody else remember when the oval burn scars on our legs identified us all as riders, way back then?
'Back in the day' it seemed like all the fun girls had a nice 'baloney scar' on their calf.

(Not that I'm implying that the OP is a fun girl.)

Then the mfg. started putting those little BBQ grill thingies on the mufflers....

Many moons ago, when petrol was dispensed by people, there I was, sat on my Tiger Cub, left gauntlet off whilst handing coins to the attendant. Dropped a small coin (a six-penny piece), it fell and rolled to the right of the bike. Reached down with my right (gauntletted) hand (stupid, how could I pick up a coin with a glove on?). My wrist caught on the exhaust pipe.

Went to pull it up and away, but the sleeve of the gauntlet caught beneath and behind the pipe forcing my wrist against the pipe, meanwhile my wrist was giving off smoke and a wonderful smell of roasting pork.

Had the scar as a reminder of my stupidity for decades.

So where did Fry Boy the OP get off to?

We could use some factual info to work from as we analyze the unidentified burned appendage and to give us the mechanics of how this accident happened. Without more to go on this thread is likely to degenerate into burn doctoring and discussions of heroic burn marks from motorcycles of days past

Edit: I see mcatrophy and I cross posted. It has started......

I have 2 regular pillions who seem to have a hard time keeping their sneakers off my cans and covering them in roasted boot rubber. They've gotten slightly better about it since I've started making THEM polish it clean again, but it's a recurring issue.
