I'll reiterate my congrats here! Nice bike! Thanks for all the pics and observations.

Looks like only tweaks from the forks back (save for the exhaust) compared to the Gen II.

I wait for additional observations from you and Dale, but it really seems to be Gen 2.5 to me.

It looks like the outer engine cases are now bright silver like the frame. I'll have silver powder available for the highway plates. I wonder how they'll work out with the wider body panels...

Congrats Richard (and Warchild too) on the new rides. Bummed that my '08 is probably worth a few thousand less than a used prophylactic now, but looking forward to the next 5 years of complaints from the Gen 1 crowd (if the last 7 years is an accurate forecast)....
Not gonna be an issue. You see, the period from 2006 to 2012, better referred to as "The Dark Ages" in Yama-speak, for the barbarism, ignorance and unsophistication foisted upon the general motorcycling public, has ended.

Civilization can now expel the bad taste left in its collective mouth for the technological indiscretion known widely as "The Gen II", or referred to in some circles as "The Plague of Suppurating Cystic Discharge".

Sorry. The truth hurts. Go ahead...mark my rep down. I'm a big boy. :finger:
Thank you for carrying the torch in my absence my good friend. That is one great bit of prophetic prose you wrote. Brang a freakin tear to my eye.

Radiohowie, the Jimmy Swaggart of the FJR congregation. One day someone is going to find out he's been riding a Gen2 he's been hiding in his woodshed. The tearful public apology will follow.

All these bike-**** photos and talk had me lusting in my heart.

So while my bride was at physical therapy, I cruised by the local Yamaha dealer to drool over a 2013.

Drat!

They had a 2012, a 2007 and a 2006 (nicely farkled). But no sign of the new girl.

Good thing you two keep me supplied with plenty 'o teasin'.

Yup, sorry... I should have something to that effect.

That was true of any of the spacers that were used previously, so it would hold true now too. You need to extend the bolts that protrude from the back of the mirrors. I believe that SW Motech makes some spacers for the 2nd gens that may or may not fit into the depressed area of the G3. Of course that would be assuming that the mirrors are the same as G2 , with the same bolt spacing, which they look to be.

edit - Yup, here is a link to the SW Motech G2 spacers with the extension pieces.
Wow ,I have never seen these. This looks like the problem solver for the mirrors if they will fit the recessed area on the G3

Wow Congrats on the new ride! Didn't realize the new ones were out! Must have been sleeping! Thanks for sharing with us all! I am still learning my 06!

So hows the cruise work? Better then what has beeen installed on GenII? Is it easy to operate?

The lights? Are there led running lights I couldn't tell from the photo.

Is this the only color available in the US? I saw 3 colors when I read an article in a mag.

Again thanks for all the bike-****!

Happy Riding

Congratulations on your new bike and may you always keep the rubber side down my brother. One question; where do you install the frame sliders?

Congratulations on your Gen3, it's a great looking bike! If I was looking again, all things considered for what's important to me, I'd get the new FJR over any of the competition same as I did last year.

Dale did you fall asleep? any luck on that mud flap?

R
I need to get some sleep, that's for sure... :(

The mudflap is not on any the 2013 models, and Dan Denchel has added that to his punch list of questions for the Tech Division at Cypress. From my measurements of some Gen II's that are on the floor at Desert Valley Powersports, the 4-hole plastic piece above the forward portion of our swingarm are identical to the ones on the Gen IIs. All the Gen II's had the mudflap installed.

Ours do not.

I had Guru Glen look up the mud flap part number from the Gen II bikes; sadly, he says they are back-ordered in Japan. Damn... who made a run on shock mudflaps?
