Here’s the nutshell version of the history:
The couple on whose property this resides has had a small engine repair business for more than 50 yrs at this location. It’s very rural now so you can imagine how remote it was then. They had a sign on the road promoting their business, which the county made them remove, as it did not comply with local codes.
About that time, again, 50 yrs ago, they came across this object that was the result of a local high school metal shop project. It had no value to the school upon completion and was relegated to the locale scrapheap. These folks recovered it and moved it to their old sign location where it quickly became a local landmark and remains there to this day.
Originally, it was painted green until another group of college students discovered it and repainted it yellow, for obvious reasons, as part of an art project. They took many before and after photos as they changed the color and added graphics referencing the Beatles etc.
The owners tell me the locals see to it that it gets routine repaires and repainted as needed, and sometimes they are completely unaware until they happen to drive out the long driveway and notice.
On occasion, over the past 50 yrs, the owners have removed it for one reason or another and get inundated with inquiries about it’s welfare. It’s never long before it finds it’s way back to it original location, much to the delight of many.
