Mark, the last trip was with Denny (drc32-0), Matt (mdisher) and myself. It was a day trip starting in Zanesville down 555 and over to the Hocking Hills area, ending in Lancaster. My total mileage for the day was 510 from home and back, in 13.5 hrs... It was a great day

I just looked at my old route map and there is a Best Western Motel in Caldwell, OH which intersects the route at Rt 78 and Interstate 77.

I just checked online and the walk-in rate for 2 queen beds was $78/night which is not too bad...as it seems that the motels in Marietta and Athens tend to be much higher from my previous visits.

Plus, for those day trippers, the motel is on the northern section of that route...so not as far to get to as Marietta.

It does look like - for the overnighters - that someone would have to make a trip for beer if they wanted to partake of that after the riding is done (that would be me).

Also, which day is traditionally better for riding the roads shown on my map...Saturday or Sunday? This would help me know whether to take off Friday or Monday from work.

Anyways, who is interested on the weekend of the 3rd, 17th or 24th?

If no one is...that's fine, I'll jes ride these roads myself. It would just be nice to meet and ride with some of you Ohio riders...noticed I said some

Yes...October. Flip up a few posts and you'll see what I'm thinking about. It would be nice to have a buckeye run in the #1 position, as I have a serious case of flatlanderitus. It takes me awhile in the curves till I can comfortably run the curves with a decent velocity.

I'm kinda antsy, cuz I gotta take a day off from work to get out there and wanna have it lined up when others might be in the mood to run those roads.

Can I tag along? I live about halfway between Columbus & Zanesville off of I70. I might even be able to drag my neighbor and his slow FJR(a ribbing between friends) along too. I have nothing abnormal (kids soccer & hockey) planned on any of those weekends right now. I don't have the game schedule for the hockey team I coach yet, so don't plan around me. But if I can make it when you plan it and you'll have me I'd love to ride along.

I don't mind riding with anyone...so long as they ride well and ride their own pace...and don't mind if I ride my pace and my squiddly passes. (I'm not very patient with curvy roads and slow cars in front of me).

I am hoping one of the local veteran buckeye ride leader will post up, and take the lead on this thing.

If not, I may open a separate thread and organize my own little ride.

You pick from those three I mentioned...and I will be there. Edit: If Denny can make it, try to make it so you both can be there...

So which is it?..and which day? Sat or Sun?

Mark...I'm still around,I've just been working 12 hour days and internet access has been spotty.I'm in Arkansas (without the bike :angry: ),but I should be leaving tomorrow morning and getting back to Ohio late Saturday.I should be good for any weekend in October.

I stayed at the Caldwell Best Western a few months ago and it's a pretty nice motel.If I remember correctly that $78 price includes a voucher for $5 off at a little restaurant next door.There are some small stores around there also,but I don't know if any of them sell beer.

Well, that's great Denny.

Tom just needs to post up as to when when he is available to ride...Which weekend/which day (I presume Saturday) ...and I think we will just about be set.

I propose...of course that we do that loop that you and Tom helped me construct...but you and Tom want to do something different, I could certainly be persuaded. I think somebody said 255 (do I have that road right?) was in much better shape now than when the loop was created, so that could be incorporated easily.

I think there are restaurants and/or pizza joints close by the Best Western/Caldwell so those want to overnight like me would'nt have far to go to get dinner or breakfast.

I will probably just make a beer run for whoever wants it, so there will be some for those that want to stay overnight at the motel and chill after all the day's good riding.

I will be coming 500 miles via back roads to get to Caldwell, so you know the SE OH roads motivate me.

I am psyched! :clapping: Let's get this worked out!

I can do the 3rd or the 17th, you pick it.

The weekend of the 10th is out for me.

Best case for me is to ride in late on Friday, ride Saturday & return home Saturday night.

I'm only 2:00 hours or so from Caldwell.

I will place my reservations for Friday and Saturday nights at the Best Western - Caldwell.

If anybody wants to room split, I will be reserving a 2 bed room - non-smoking.

I will probably be bringing a six or 12 of beer that I will pick up in Athens on my way in. I will be coming in from the Hocking Hills area, then taking 78 east to Caldwell. Should be fun, although the beer may be well agitated by the time I get there.

Edit: Motel booked for 2 nights.

Now Tom...you're leading...do you have a route you want to take other than what I have posted? Let me know and I will work it out on S&T...so I can make turn sheets for myself and send the files to others who want them.

Denny, depending on how many we get...would you be willing to lead as well?
