I took the after-market Beowulf mufflers off and sold them to another forum member. As expected, I had to order a set of gaskets to re-install the OEM exhaust, so the FJR sits in the MC garage waiting...
After a couple of stout Scottish ales last night, my curiosity got the best of me.
Okay, how many others would start it up with just the unmuffled straight pipes? How many would admit they did this? I did and do.
Of course it was obnoxiously loud, but had an intriguing snarling tone, almost intimidating. It definitely projected high-performance power. My imagination (inner juvenile delinquent) had me doing a 3 a.m. urban werewolf prowl, dodging law enforcement even as I broadcast my location... Or, hunting down some straight-piped pirates and engaging in a real loud-pipes-save-lives safety competition. I think the unmuffled FJR would show 'em what's what.
Alas, the responsible adult in me dictates the bike will stay in its stall, neighbors and townsfolk left in peace, until the gaskets are here and the mufflers are in place ... but 40 years ago...?
