It isn't that hard....and you'll have your GPS. Getting lost just adds to the adventure!
True, but based on Ski's previous comments, and since I've not been on the roads before, I'm likely to crawl through some of the areas... I'm never very comfortable maintaining speeds on roads I've never been on, much less leading others through those same areas. I'm not really "worried" about following the route, just don't think I'd be a good "leader" on a route I've never been on. If it comes down to leading a group, my group will be me, myself, and I.It isn't that hard....and you'll have your GPS. Getting lost just adds to the adventure!
You'll be fine on this ride, Groo. In the morning, coming over Mt. Rose, you just look for Country Club as you come down a long wide open stretch -- kinda near the top of where it straightens out after the hairpin overlook. Print out my directions (that you so ably input for GPS use) for a couple of the turns and review them before you take off from the last preceeding stop. In S.L.T., just stay on 50 til you get to Al Tahoe Blvd and make a left. The turns are all pretty well marked from there (many being tee intersections, even). On the way back, past Markleeville, either follow the directions I typed or after you hit the tee at Woodfords (6 miles past Markleeville) and make a right (onto 88) -- instead of doing Carson River Road, just stay on 88 into Minden where it tees into 395. Make a left and take it all the way to Reno. A couple of the Saturday Hwy 40 return turns (in Gold Run and Alta) are a bit harder to find on the roll, but you nailed the GPS instructions. If you get lost, just get on 80 east (both likely misses are real close to 80 east on-ramps) until you get to Cisco Grove or Soda Springs and grab Old 40 there.True, but based on Ski's previous comments, and since I've not been on the roads before, I'm likely to crawl through some of the areas... Which is exactly why you may make a better leader than those who are familiar with the roads. Familiarity breeds complacency, which is something we DON'T need on a group ride. The last one through a very familiar Monitor Pass almost included a bear strike and bike to bike rear-end collision. Knowing the roads doesn't mean conditions don't change, which is something no wordly beings can know until they are faced with them.True, but based on Ski's previous comments, and since I've not been on the roads before, I'm likely to crawl through some of the areas... Being 15 minutes apart, we might have groups running into each other anyway, depending on how the pace sets up in each group.Plus, if you screw the route-pooch, Groo, just wait a bit at your last known good waypoint, we'll be along shortly to sweep you up...
Hey.....it's happened before! One just sets a nice, comfortable and steady pace. For Example, if MM2 leads the last group, they might be first back
I've never been on a ride that is broken into groups before the ride begins. I've been on a few that broke into groups based on pace. This whole thing is starting to scare me :dribble:Hey.....it's happened before! One just sets a nice, comfortable and steady pace. For Example, if MM2 leads the last group, they might be first back
If the people in the first group don't mind a ninth, it's not a problem. Otherwise, you could leave at 6:55 and go at it. Up ta you...In order to get back for the dinner I will be leaving at 7:00 If I could sqeeze into group 1 that woud be great If not I may have to pass. Sorry if this screws up the order of things I just want to be sure I get back in time without trying to get anybody hurt.
I was thinking I could velcro it to a top gun shelf as a last resort. :huh:TC As for your GPS use some duct tape and your good to go.
