It isn't that hard....and you'll have your GPS. Getting lost just adds to the adventure!
True, but based on Ski's previous comments, and since I've not been on the roads before, I'm likely to crawl through some of the areas... I'm never very comfortable maintaining speeds on roads I've never been on, much less leading others through those same areas. I'm not really "worried" about following the route, just don't think I'd be a good "leader" on a route I've never been on. If it comes down to leading a group, my group will be me, myself, and I. :)

You'll be fine on this ride, Groo. In the morning, coming over Mt. Rose, you just look for Country Club as you come down a long wide open stretch -- kinda near the top of where it straightens out after the hairpin overlook. Print out my directions (that you so ably input for GPS use) for a couple of the turns and review them before you take off from the last preceeding stop. In S.L.T., just stay on 50 til you get to Al Tahoe Blvd and make a left. The turns are all pretty well marked from there (many being tee intersections, even). On the way back, past Markleeville, either follow the directions I typed or after you hit the tee at Woodfords (6 miles past Markleeville) and make a right (onto 88) -- instead of doing Carson River Road, just stay on 88 into Minden where it tees into 395. Make a left and take it all the way to Reno. A couple of the Saturday Hwy 40 return turns (in Gold Run and Alta) are a bit harder to find on the roll, but you nailed the GPS instructions. If you get lost, just get on 80 east (both likely misses are real close to 80 east on-ramps) until you get to Cisco Grove or Soda Springs and grab Old 40 there.

Which is exactly why you may make a better leader than those who are familiar with the roads. Familiarity breeds complacency, which is something we DON'T need on a group ride. The last one through a very familiar Monitor Pass almost included a bear strike and bike to bike rear-end collision. Knowing the roads doesn't mean conditions don't change, which is something no wordly beings can know until they are faced with them.
Besides, you're the GPS Guru. The electronic box will be leading. Just follow at a safe pace.

I'd volunteer, but I'm pretty happy where I ended up so far and probably won't be able to get the GPS mounted in time due to a lack of parts from trusting a vendor to do something a little above filling an order (backorder).

Don't fret, we'll work something out by drunk:30 on the 27th.

Ok, on second thought, what the ****. I'll lead group 3 if nobody else wants to. However, if somebody else in the group is familiar with the roads, I'd encourage them to take the front.

Plus, if you screw the route-pooch, Groo, just wait a bit at your last known good waypoint, we'll be along shortly to sweep you up...

Being 15 minutes apart, we might have groups running into each other anyway, depending on how the pace sets up in each group.

For Example, if MM2 leads the last group, they might be first back

Hey.....it's happened before! One just sets a nice, comfortable and steady pace. :D
I've never been on a ride that is broken into groups before the ride begins. I've been on a few that broke into groups based on pace. This whole thing is starting to scare me :dribble:

j/k

In order to get back for the dinner I will be leaving at 7:00 If I could sqeeze into group 1 that woud be great If not I may have to pass. Sorry if this screws up the order of things I just want to be sure I get back in time without trying to get anybody hurt.

TC As for your GPS use some duct tape and your good to go. :p

If the people in the first group don't mind a ninth, it's not a problem. Otherwise, you could leave at 6:55 and go at it. Up ta you...

I was thinking I could velcro it to a top gun shelf as a last resort.

I'm in group #2 and don't know who the leader/pilot will be. I have the route in my GPS and willing to co pilot the route. B) I do like the early start.

This is amazing. We started out in group #2 (2 ups) and we all ended up as group #4. What's up? By departure time it will all be switched around again.

Who gives a rats ***, we'll blow by all of you. :assassin:

Remember, keep the pace.

Groo, I have not been on these roads either, so you have a one-up on me in that you have GPS. Pending Autocom's backorder, I should have a FRS/GMRS radio installed by the time of the trip and would be willing to ride sweep but not lead. I'm waiting for interface cables that were expected to be at the distributor on July 15. Tick tock tick tock...

Do dooh doo dood-diddity doo..

Don't worry, be happy :) :D

All these worries will work out in the end. Who leads what group, who has gps, who doesn't.. It really doesn't matter. I'm hoping either Coyote or SportBikeEffects leads my group as 1) I'm gps challenged and 2) get lost daily on my ride home. Seriously, can't read a map or follow directions worth a ****. But, if it's decided I'm the leader I will lead and we WILL have a good time.. Even if not by the 'prescribed' route.

All the roads up there are fanastic.. it's kind of like being a kid in the candy store... it's all good.

Worldbound4now...

I don't have a FRS/GMRS yet (thought about one, ran out of time), so with only 4 in our group, I'll just count headlights and wait at corners.

I've destressed about this. If I lead, that's cool. If I don't, that's cool too. If I get lost, I'll eventually make it back to the hotel. Not like this is Pakistan or anything... at least most of the locals speak english...

Oh, one thing, was there something about backtracking to the Topaz Casino in Nevada to get gas?

Can I be in group ZERO? ;)

Is 0700 as early as you drunkards will leave? Heck, that's like 10 AM my time. And I usually get up around 5. Half the day will be over by the time you slackers even start rolling around.

Anyone in for the dawn patrol?????? :dribble: Or are the roads closed and/or dangerous early in the AM?

Everyone needs to quit worrying about not knowing the roads and about this and that and who is going to lead. When the time comes people will step up to the plate and make it a wonderful experience for all who rides.

THERE some of us who have ridden in those areas that are more than glad to assist, we just do not know who they are.

"DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY :D "
