April 16, riding home from a Tour of Honor site, hit a hole in the road. Not a pothole, but a Hole over a foot square in some perfectly good pavement.

No drama, bike took the hit and I stop on the shoulder to check the damage. Knew there was damage how could there not be?

Both tires where holding air and couldn't find any leaks, although the rear tire had a nasty cut in it.

Decided to try and make it home and I did. Checked the tire pressure again on Sunday and both tires are still inflated. Monday rode to the shop, called the Insurance company. I'm covered WOO-HOO!

All new Wheels and bearings $2000.00! Had to wait on some bearings that were on back order.

TODAY picked it up and brought her home.

The Black Wheels.

Well, you know, Lemons..................Lemonade.

SpeedBleeders, YEAH !2008 FJR1300A. The front brake calipers are marked Nissin. The rear caliper is not marked; I assume it is Nissin, also.

Didn't do the clutch

?
What size is the clutch bleeder?

Cheers,
Same as the front, depending. I used SB8125L and SB8125LL on the front and SB8125L for the clutch. If I ever do it again I'll use SB8125 (NO "L") for the clutch. The "L" signifies Length, "LL" more length. A shorter one for the clutch is IMHO better. Long, drawn out discussion here.
Rbentnail,

Thanks, that helps. I'll put the clutch bleed job on my Things To Do list.

Quick follow up to my prior post, it appears that this idea has some real merit.

I made a quick little 1 hour test ride with the spacers installed and the difference in turbulence off the top of the touring windshield is quite significant. I'll want to take it out on the highway and play in the dirty air of the tractor-trailer trucks, but it is looking quite good up to about ~60 mph on a few back roads so far.

More to come, no doubt

Karl,
You missed your big day to buy a lottery ticket. Nice job riding that one out.

Is that a crack in the rear rim? If so, pretty scary.
Gee Fred, Thanks

I wish I could claim that my Superior riding skills pulled it off.

Truth is the hole was hidden over a small rise, by the time you could see the hole it was too late to react.

Let's just thank Yamaha for building such a stable platform that it can take a hit like this and not dump us into the weeds.

PS yes that is a crack in the wheel.

The Black Wheels.

Whoa there, airboss. Those are not the black wheels on my 2015 bike, because yours have badass REFLECTIVE SHIT. Did the new wheels come with that? I want it!

(Oh yeah, no kidding about superior bike handling skills. A hit that cracks a rim and you get it to the shoulder to inspect? Kudos!)

Air boss, I know your insurance covered your damage, but that should be referred to the DOT. where you live. Reimbursement is appropriate for that type of damage due to their neglect. And yea, those wheels look fantastic.

I have also contacted IDOT, They are looking into it.

Sounds like in order to have a claim IDOT needs to have prior knowledge of the condition, and have not fixed it after a reasonable length of time???

Nothing I'd like better that to reimburse the insurance company. That would make the claim go away.

Hatched a plan to strip and polish the machined portion of my wheels and put some black reflective tape on them... I'm too lazy to measure. Are those 1/4" ?

+1 on reimbursing your insurance. Keep pressing IDOT on issue. If you have an attorney friend, get him involved. Their prior knowledge or not doesn't make your damage go away. I know here ,, they pay out millions settling pothole damage claims. I haven't been through it myself, but heard of its existence either on news story or talking with LDOT employee. Can't recall, been several years. Good luck and awesome job keeping it upright.

Installed Wynpro anti vibration light mounts, FZ1 mirrors, and LED lights today. Tomorrow I'll wire the lights using a Skene Design 175A controller along with the FZ fuse panel and reconnect my TomTom and Radar Detector through the FZ switched power.

I'll have all weekend to get this done as we have heavy rain forecast tomorrow and Friday, Snow on Saturday!

Nothing like Spring in SD! But we need the moisture pretty badly as we were in near drought territory until the storms arrived.

At the very least the insurance should cover this under comprehensive, which should not raise your future rates. I mean, if whacking a bambi is a comp claim (it was for me) then surely hitting a booby trap hole in the road would be.

Added a spring to the lid of the Givi topcase to assist in keeping the lid open.
Useless without pics. My pet peeve with my Givi. Fecker bites!
First world problems...

...now I see what ol Polish Pecker sez about you whining all the time...

When it bites you pret'near every time you open it, you notice.

But you don't hear me whining about soft paint or CC limited to 80mph.

Just arseholes who move from the land of ice and snow to warmer climes. :D
